Hi guys. I'm trying to implement the twitch JSON front end project and I'm having some trouble hitting the API endpoint
This is the function that I am currently using
  var twitch_endpt = "https://wind-bow.gomix.me/twitch-api/";
  twitch_users.forEach(function(val){
    //console.log(val);
    $.getJSON(twitch_endpt+"users/"+val+"?callback=?",function(json){
      var id = json._id;
      //console.log(typeof(id))

      $.getJSON(twitch_endpt+"channels/"+id+"?callback=?",function(json){
        console.log(json);
      });

    });

  });
This is the content of twitch_users
  var twitch_users = [
    "ESL_SC2",
    "OgamingSC2",
    "cretetion",
    "freecodecamp",
    "storbeck",
    "habathcx",
    "RobotCaleb",
    "noobs2ninjas"
  ];

I'm working on the same challenge and a bit stuck
I went with a for loop instead of forEach
I keep getting undefined when I try to index the array

@apravink - do you have a URL for this project, if you're on CodePen? If not, are you getting errors in your devtools console?
@Na-Ya - do you have a URL for your project?

@jtan3 Sorry I was gone, but I tried to splice howMany and howMany -1 as well in the first one. The splice function claims to start where your index is (I wanted it at 0) and stop exclusively, I think, where your count is. With the one that works, it seems to work backwards. starting at howMany and deleting backwards to 0.
I want to always start at 0 and cut to howMany.

@Na-Ya - one problem that you are having is that you are trying to use channels[i] within your callback function, and the way this loop works, the for loop runs as quickly as it can and completes the requesting of the information for the users. The callback function triggers when the data returns, but by that time, the i loop variable has been incremented beyond the end of the loop. If you put a console.log of the json data you will see that the users information is there. You should be able to access the user name from the returned data.

I see @khaduch , I was under the impression it would have to run everything inside of the callback before incrementing
I guess I still have some confusion with loops :/
thanks @khaduch

@Na-Ya - no, the AJAX request is asynchronous, so it does not wait for the return of the data, but it issues the request, and then moves along to the next iteration of the loop. That's the thing that is great about ajax - work can continue within the code without the relatively long wait for the data transaction to complete. One thing that you can do, and this is a new feature of ES6, is to do let currentChannel = channel[i]; and that makes a locally scoped copy of the data for that iteration of the loop. But you can extract the user information from the returned data, just about as easily.

hey everybody, starting up on my tic tac toe project and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on how to start the functionality of my game, i have my html and css down on how i want it to look, but i been starting my last projects through help of tutorials of others doing the same and i want to stray away from that and become more interactive with the community and solving problems more self-efficiently without having to rely on tutorials. Any suggestions im all eyes ???

@ywiley94, I think I know what you mean. I worry that I'm leaning too heavily on other dev's knowledge/experience, but really, how else do we learn? With the tic tac toe game, I looked up the logic of the game on Wikipedia I think it was. Not programming per se, but the logic behind the game. That worked as a springboard for me. The article I read talked about different moves and went into an amazing amount of detail about probabilites, etc. -- I don't think I ended up using any of it directly but it gave me something to begin with.

@ywiley94 not sure what you meant with "tutorials". Learning with tutorials is a normal thing, what's the problem with it? As long as you can understand and apply the knowledge from the tutorial to do your next projects. It's not different from learning from docs, books, community,..

okay so lets say that i have a .delay() that i call to pop up a message on screen after 4 seconds. But if the user clicks on another button, i want that delay to get canceled. As i learned this isnt possible with delay. So what else can i use as an alternative?

Hi All
In Below code I am able to print cards and task in console . but when I am doing Object.assign its not working.

 Promise.all(cardsPromiseList).then((cards) => {
            console.log('cards = ', cards)
             console.log('task = ', task)
            console.log('---------- Object.assign(task, {cards: cards}) = ', Object.assign(task, {cards: cards}))
            resolve(Object.assign(task, {cards: cards})) // -- not working but correct
            // resolve(task['cards'] = cards)  // -- working but not correct
          })

Console.log for Cards —>

cards =  [ { '59e4dea67677da07fc57e8eb':
     { _id: 59e4dea67677da07fc57e8eb,
       cardName: 'Go To GYm',
       cardDesc: '',

       __v: 0,
       cardCreationDate: 2017-10-16T16:31:04.526Z } } ]

Console.log for tasks —>

task =  { _id: 59e0627270987ca18a594255,
  taskName: 'Complete Trello front end and backEnd Integration',
  taskDesc: '',
  __v: 0,

  taskCreationDate: 2017-10-13T06:51:30.063Z }

Console.log for last Object.assign —>

---------- Object.assign(task, {cards: cards}) =  { _id: 59e0627270987ca18a594255,
  taskName: 'Complete Trello front end and backEnd Integration',
  taskDesc: '',
  __v: 0,
  cardList: [ 59e4dea67677da07fc57e8eb, 59e4dec87677da07fc57e8ec ],
  taskCreationDate: 2017-10-13T06:51:30.063Z }

On doing Object.assign(task, {cards: cards}) —> It should append existing task object with new property cards , but its not happening , any insight on this ?

@thodorisanta ahhhh I havn't got to that project yet lol. But I'm really not that far behind. And sorry let me clarify, why is the box popping up?
@thodorisanta like is it popping up because a user did something, or is it popping up to say "hey make a play buddy, you're holding the game up"?
Spyrantis Theodoros
@thodorisanta
Oct 17 2017 08:51
@AndroidNinjaX its popping up to say "its your turn" after i win the previous game
but it happens after i hit the "reset" button
which resets everything
i think i will end up doing it with setTimeout
TJ Hardin
@AndroidNinjaX
Oct 17 2017 08:59

@thodorisanta Ok I think I might have something, but I would like to ask, is this suppose to happen every time after another player goes. Let's say for example X goes, then it's O's turn, would you have the message pop up saying "It's not O's turn". Also vice versa if O were to go and it's X's turn?

If so then instead of a .delay you could use like an .fadeIn and .fadeOut. so like say X goes right, then in that even you fade in a message to say "O it's your turn", then fade it out. And when someone wins and the game is reset that even never takes places because it's not someone else's turn.

Sorry for some of the wrong terminology it's been a while.

@thodorisanta possibly, just a suggestion.
@thodorisanta oh apparently I can't a spell "event" haha... I kept saying "even", my bad
@thodorisanta oooo possibly a .removeClass and .addClass
Spyrantis Theodoros
@thodorisanta

@jsd540 for all apis having a limited number of calls on the free plan i would recommend to make a few calls until u get the response u want, grab that response and store it into a json var and work on that var until your design and functionality is ready then switch back to api calls. If working on codepen I would also recommend disable autoupdating that with every change rerun your code, so making unnecessarily api calls

@thodorisanta everywhere you have $('.you').hide() you need to change it to $('.you').css('visibility', 'hidden')

like wise for .computer

@ashwins93 still, are you sure that this will fix the problem? And how does gonna make a difference?
Ashwin
@ashwins93
Oct 17 2017 19:07
@thodorisanta Because by making the visibility to hidden, the element stays there but is invisible
so it occupies space
but when you hide it with display: none the element itself is removed from the DOM
hence the element occupies no space and thereby the elements below it move upwards

@thodorisanta Side comment, you can check autoprefixer in the CSS settings so you don't need to worry about vendor prefixes

@BolajiZ - do you mean the one with your name in it? It looks like it is pinned to the top of the page, underneath the navbar
add some padding-top to the .pageOne and see if it appears. You also have a negative margin-top on that section, and it is moving the h1 up

@BolajiZ Its hiding above because you have set pageOne 's margin-top to -10%
@thodorisanta Haha you have another 2 elements just like .computer and .you don't you?

Please is anyone able to find out where's the error preventing SCROLLSPY from working ? https://codepen.io/mrassili/pen/LzzRxw
Hi
Sorry, finger slipped
If I want to import a .ttf via Codepen, then using a CDN @font-face works, but if I import a stylesheet corresponding to that same link, it doesn't work. The stylesheet in question is at: https://github.com/yacobgugsa/abc
Note that if you go access the pen I linked to, and replace the @font-face at the top of the stylesheet with
@import 'https://raw.githubusercontent.com/yacobgugsa/abc/master/meiryo.css';, it doesn't render the font. I have no idea why this is happening. Halp.

@yacobgugsa your MIME type is incorrect, you need to use text/css Try using https://cdn.rawgit.com/yacobgugsa/abc/master/meiryo.css instead
I believe it's always plain text from github but someone can correct me if I am mistaken

I tried giving you a thumbs up but it didn't work
Is it not possible to force a plaintext import as text/css?
I tried your suggestion and it didn't work: https://codepen.io/yacobgugsa/pen/VKXQyW

guys I have an interesting problem with my scrollspy behaviour if someone would wanna look at it https://codepen.io/mrassili/pen/LzzRxw
when the sections' borders are present the scrollspy work perfectly at when it I scroll to the border edge but when I hide the borders the the scrollspy doesn't work until I reach an element (in my case, the h1)

@mrassili it jumps. It just doesn't jump to the top of your div.

@jtan3 yeah I know, I figured it out, by adding a border and setting it as "transparent" it jumps right after it reach the border's position as if it was actually there

@mrassili you can try pushing your h1 down ? vertically center the text.

@jtan3 it's already down by some pixels, never mind I have it working as I wanted now :)
