Nov 18 2017 09:09
yea, what part of it are you stuck on?\
on that part, they're just telling you to get rid of the code you don't need anymore

the code starts like this:

<style>
.red-text {
color: red;
}

h2 {
font-family: Lobster, Monospace;
}

p {
font-size: 16px;
font-family: Monospace;
}

.thick-green-border {
border-color: green;
border-width: 10px;
border-style: solid;
border-radius: 50%;
}

.smaller-image {
width: 100px;
}
</style>

you should change it to look like this:
<style>
h2 {
font-family: Lobster, Monospace;
}

.thick-green-border {
border-color: green;
border-width: 10px;
border-style: solid;
border-radius: 50%;
}
</style>

@sarkioja - it's definitely a problem on the phone with the navbar links - everything seems to work fine on the desktop. If you want to take a look at it, if you go on the phone and switch to the "debug" view - that takes the CodePen wrapper away from the display of the project, and see if that works. I've seen that cause problems on the mobile view before.

@minutazos can you link the file on the external server and/or copy the ajax call?
Alvaro
@minutazos
Nov 18 2017 14:36
josepcano.com/php and the ajax call is:
var carga = function() {
$("#more").click(function() {
var content = $.get("/assets/include/load-second.php"
, function(htmlexterno) {
$("#more").remove();
$("#portfolio2").addClass("portfolio masonry");
$("#portfolio2").append(htmlexterno);
//Aplicamos arreglos
altura("#portfolio2");
hover("#portfolio2");
});
});
};
and also, I don't know why, but there is some js styling elements, and if its the first time you charge the web, the style is not applied, but if you refresh, the style appears, why could be this happening?
Ghost
@ghost~57b1df1e40f3a6eec05f92a8
Nov 18 2017 14:43
@minutazos (using latest firefox: )
<a href="javascript:Carga();" id="more" title="Cargar contenido" style="margin: 0 50%;"><i class="fa fa-angle-double-down fa-3x" aria-hidden="true"></i></a> produces the error ReferenceError: Carga is not defined, but thats not really the problem...
The server returns a 404 status + the requested html page. But due to the 404 jquery handles it as an error. Maybe change some code server side so it returns 200 instead of 404

when you mouse over the buttons there is an area affected by the corner of the center-element in each of them

@sarkioja - I haven't figured out what's going on with that on mobile devices, except that I'm guessing that CodePen's interface does things that the phone browsers don't support? Nov 18 2017 20:22

@mradil16 - just a couple thoughts - there are courses on Udemy where they take you through the building of different website projects - it might be a way to approach it to see how people work through that. It would be especially helpful if they actually covered some elements of designing it, too, rather than having a concept in their mind and just going with it. The other thing to do is just put an idea down on paper and work through some details in your mind, how it should work, types of data, layout and UI design, etc. Then work from there?

I have a course on my Udemy list - "ultimate Web Designer & developer course: build 23 projects..." I haven't started it because there are too many things going on in my learning queue... but something like that might be helpful?

Nov 18 2017 20:52
@moT01 Most laptops are powerful enough to do web development. Websites are run in a browser and it doesn't require a quad-core or a laptop that costs a lot. Text editors such as Sublime and VS Code also use very little resources. Depending on if you are only going to use the laptop for coding and not gaming, running huge excel files or compiling massive data which uses a lot of cpu cycles most laptops would fit. You then have to basically choose on your brand preference as well as cost.
Tom

Nov 18 2017 20:55
Dell is known for long warranties (most 3 years) that has a 24 hour resolution period. But they cost more than most laptops in their range. I've found Acer and Lenovo to be reliable as well. Lenovo maybe a bit more than Acer but that's my preference. It's not really clear cut. Then it's between 10.1" or you standard 15.7" larger size. Asus and Macbooks make light and smaller laptops but cost WAY more for smaller size and weight
Kaz Baig
@kbaig
Nov 18 2017 20:55
I had one all throughout college and it was great
I use it when travelling too
I've always had Acer devices poop out on me and they make you pay shipping to send it to the repair center, even if your stuff is under warranty

Where I live Asus is really close to Gigabyte and Lenovo laptops. The diff would be 3% if that much. But I've found Asus to be really reliable. And I like their Gesture software they incorporate in their laptops
They do Sound Cards, Motherboards, Graphics Cards. Not CPU's, RAM, HDDs, SSDs

@Botenga Clicking outside of a page shouldn't activate a anchor tag. What do you mean?
What isn't activating?
@Botenga Do you mean the two playstation and xbox anchor tags? Because that can be fixed by setting href="" and they act like normal anchor tags?

You need to write css code for that to happen. Of you want to have it do something on :hover you need to write it.
I am looking at your codepen but I'm not seeing the part of the css code that is trying to do so

@Asjas so when i hover over the link I should be able to click anywhere where the color changed . What im saying is when I click on the edge of the link it dosent display as a link. Instead it displays as normal text.
@Asjas I aplied display:block; to the ul

@Botenga Do you mean it highlights the text? That could be caused by the margin. Add a border: 1px solid red; to the footer a css selector. That will allow you to debug if you are actually hovering on an anchor tag or over nothing
If you mean you click and it flashes and nothing happens that might be because you don't have any target="_blank" settings on those anchor tags. By default codepen doesn't open a new tab. You need to specifically set it.
If I set a solid red border on the a tags, and click inside every single red box, it activates. I'm not seeing that it's not working. For me it works as you spaced it out

when you click on the edge of them the mouse turns back into the regular pointer instead of the click link

It's caused by the nav ul li {padding: 15px;}. The element doesn't take up that space, it's empty padding, so you can't click and activate the anchor tag. You can check by setting that to padding: 50px and you'll see the effect over a larger surface.
If you actually want someone to click anywhere in that box and activate the anchor tag you'll have to remove the padding and set the box height and width manually. Then set the anchor tag to 100% widht and height of the li
Padding cannot be "clicked". It's empty space.

@Asjas what i did was remove the padding on the ul li and applied it to li a and it had the same affect and fix the issue.
