https://pastebin.com/KPTwx0Ee how can i create a new object inside employees array ????
with employeesName and isAvailable
Ken Haduch
@khaduch
Dec 04 2017 02:51
@volkranium - what are those elements referring to? input elements, checkboxes, etc.? What you have to do is read the value of the element, then just do something like $employees.push({employeeName: name, isAvailable: avail}). That's going on the assumption that you read those values into a variable name, and avail.

Hello, does anyone know what ctx stands for in Javascript?
Stephen James
@sjames1958gm
Dec 04 2017 03:09
@AbrisM I would imagine that it means context, and has nothing to do with javascript itself, but frameworks/libraries might use it
AbrisM
@AbrisM
Dec 04 2017 03:11
@sjames1958gm I think you are right. I am trying to do a particle/confetti fall animation without the use of frameworks or libraries
Stephen James
@sjames1958gm
Dec 04 2017 03:15
@AbrisM Then ctx is probably the animation context.
Ah, probably something like this:
var ctx = document.getElementById('canvas').getContext('2d');
where you are getting the drawing context.
AbrisM
@AbrisM
Dec 04 2017 03:17
Hmm I will try it. Most of the examples I see contain jquery or some other framework/library which we cannot use
I wonder why so many developers use these
Long Nguyen
@longnt80
Dec 04 2017 03:21
@volkranium from what I heard, don't worry about frameworks unless you're in a hurry to get a job
just keep learning more about javascript (design patterns)
once you understand that, moving to a framework is very easy since all of them are based on those patterns
I'd recommend the series Javascript Design Patterns from Udacity

@Jfelix61 try in css: list-style-position: inside; and then align the entire list as a block

it certainly aligned closer to the center, however it went farther right from the center

Dec 04 2017 05:38
perhaps center the text
Sorin Ruse
@sorinr
Dec 04 2017 05:41
@Jfelix61 so your css for that class should be like:
.dates-list{
  list-style-position: inside;
  margin: 0 auto;
  width: 100%;
  text-align: center;
  font-size: 18px;
  font-family: Monospace, serif;
}

I think what you're trying to do doesn't need bootstrap, which you're trying to use. I'm assuming that you want to center the list under the picture, yes? So you don't need the code: class="col-md-12" You just need to give it a different class name. Something like date-box or something. If you do that, then you code your css with date-box{margin-right: auto; margin-left: auto; } and that should work to center your list.
I might not have been clear. So, instead of class="col-md-12" you make it something like class="list-box" You can name it whatever makes sense to you. I named it that off the top of my head. Then, within the css, you style the left and right margins of "list-box" to auto. I think that should work.

I like that you did something original in terms of formatting and layout. I like the background as well. I think I would like it if you made the background behind the text a little more opaque. I love how you fade the gray behind the text out at the edges but I find the background is still a little distracting. I'd like it to be a little more opaque just behind the text. But this is entirely subjective. Great job.

Should I use CSS BEM or stick to the regular naming convention , what is the best practice ?
A-J Roos
@Asjas
Dec 04 2017 08:18
@mradil16 CSS BEM and SMACCS solves a lot of problems with normal css naming. CSS declarations are global by default which can cause cascading issues where things clash or override each other
It also helps learning either BEM or SMACCS as most companies use one of those naming methods. It helps when you have multiple developers working on a project to use a naming convention so that it stays consistent

@Teo03 What is the problem specifically ?
Teo
@Teo03
Dec 04 2017 13:55
@thomlom When I start a new round it does not add another new step to the array I think the problem is in the checkClicks() or checkRound() function

Dec 04 2017 13:55
@Teo03 Ok, I'm checking your code
Tiago Correia
@tiagocorreiaalmeida
Dec 04 2017 14:07
spoted one issue at the moment you need to turn the random into a function to k,eep getting different numbersk, and not always the one that was stored in the varaible
Teo
@Teo03
Dec 04 2017 14:09
but how to do that so at every new round it repeats the previous numbers and adds another to the function?
Tiago Correia
@tiagocorreiaalmeida
Dec 04 2017 14:10
you should be pushing the current sequence into an array in you call the function computer its not adding new values to the array its only playing 1 sound that's why the function runs the first time
Ghost
@ghost~56ef2a8b85d51f252ab9dec9
Dec 04 2017 14:12
@Teo03 Also, you're setting userCount and compCount to 0 in your newRound() function, so that is going to be returning false in checkClicks()
Tiago Correia
@tiagocorreiaalmeida
Dec 04 2017 14:13
I would start by every time you get the sequence right push a new value into the array(new color) then create a function that's calleda nd palys all the sounds in the array
Teo
@Teo03

@Teo03 Be careful when using global variables, because it can be modified everywhere in your code
Teo
@Teo03
Dec 04 2017 14:17
Ok, should I place the userCount and compCount variables in a function?
to make them local?
Tiago Correia
@tiagocorreiaalmeida
Dec 04 2017 14:20
your checkClicks fucntion is not being calleda fter the user gets a sequence right
try to place a few console logs around your code to see where its going and start finding the issues
Teo
@Teo03
Dec 04 2017 14:21
ok, thanks :+1:
Ghost
@ghost~56ef2a8b85d51f252ab9dec9
Dec 04 2017 14:26
Also your user function is not really functional because whenever you're going to click on a tile, your checkClicks function is going to be triggered.
Therefore it can work just for one click but not for a full sequence
It's the same for the computerfunction
Teo
@Teo03
Dec 04 2017 14:32
Thanks I will change that but I don't know how to make these functions work with the whole sequence?
or should I check every click if its the same as the previous random one?
Ghost
@ghost~56ef2a8b85d51f252ab9dec9
Dec 04 2017 14:36
@Teo03 Well, you can have a variable called playerIndex that is incremented each time he clicks on a tile while playerIndex is inferior to the length of the sequence generated by the computer.
@Teo03 Then you check in a dedicated function, if the sequence of the user at the playerIndex index is the same as the sequence of the computer. If so, then increment playerIndex, if not set the playerIndex to 0

Hello, does anyone know of an IDE that allows uploads on the internet?
Such as, I want to upload an image without having to host?
Ghost
@ghost~56ef2a8b85d51f252ab9dec9
Dec 04 2017 14:49
@Teo03 The algorithm looks like something like this :
userIndex = 0
userSequence = []
computerSequence = []

function computerPlay() {
  addANumberToComputerSequence()
  displayComputerSequence()
}

recordUserClickOnTile() // Push the correct number into userSequence and triggers checkBothSequences

function checkBothSequences() {
  if (userSequence[userIndex] == computerSequence[userIndex]) {
    if (userSequence[userIndex].length == computerSequence[userIndex].length) {
      computerPlay()
      resetUserVariables()
    } else {
      userIndex += 1 // user is right, he can continue
    }
  } else {
    resetUserVariables() // user is wrong
  }
}
@Teo03 I may have forgotten something but I think you get the idea
Teo
@Teo03
Dec 04 2017 14:53
Bellow the userIndex += 1 should I also add a function to start new round?
Ghost
@ghost~56ef2a8b85d51f252ab9dec9
Dec 04 2017 14:54
@Teo03 No
Teo
@Teo03
Dec 04 2017 14:55
But if his input is right why it should not start a new round or that should be in another function?
Ghost
@ghost~56ef2a8b85d51f252ab9dec9
Dec 04 2017 14:56
@Teo03 Because, let's imagine the computer sequence is green, yellow, red. You click on green, then you increment the userIndex. What would happen if you start a new round ? well, the user will always click on the green sequence and the computer sequence will continue to grow
@thomlom Instead, what you're doing with this algorithm is that you wait for the user to click on tiles while you can, that is to say while your sequence length is inferior to the computer sequence :)
Teo
@Teo03
Dec 04 2017 14:59
You say that we don't need to start new round because every time the user inputes it will check the clicks then call the computer to make a move?
Ghost
@ghost~56ef2a8b85d51f252ab9dec9
Dec 04 2017 15:03
Maybe I haven't explained well. Here's an example (we suppose we're at the 3th round)
userIndex = 0
userSequence : empty

// user clicks on green

computer sequence : green, red, yellow
userSequence : green

// userSequence is good so far so increment the userIndex

// user clicks on red

computer sequence : green, red, yellow
userSequence : green, red

 // userSequence is good so far so increment the userIndex

// user clicks on yellow

computer sequence : green, red, yellow
userSequence : green, red, yellow

// userSequence is good so far and its length is the same as the computerSequence, we can start the 4th round

I lost some progress in the beginning, but from what I understand everything marked with a is required, so losing progress from the very beginning shouldn't matter. When I get to step 3 on "Claim your front end development certificate" I hit confirm and get this message: "Looks like you have not completed the neccessary steps. @lunadendron I'm on the same page as you on it.. i.e. have always been told only the *'s matter... there's tons of posts about it in the forum... and even on the `claim you front end certificate' it mentions completing the algo challenges and the projects...
just double checked.. from https://www.freecodecamp.org/challenges/claim-your-front-end-development-certificate "Before we issue your certificate, we must verify that you have completed all of our basic and intermediate algorithm scripting challenges, and all our basic, intermediate, and advanced front end development projects. " @lunadendron someone else had this issue a week or so ago in the help room so it might be an actual bug thang..

as you cansee the example you show has no border so I would start to remove that, and then create some background color in a div or something

@Zerka1982 They do. We all have a history of all channels
Tiago Correia
@tiagocorreiaalmeida
Dec 04 2017 21:33
then change the background color from the button
the color from text aswell
half of the height as the border radius will give you the shape you need
