@arobida - sometimes getting away is what you need to do. The frustration is not always fun, but sometimes I think it helps to make the learning better to struggle through things.

@KevinStaufy - the portfolio happens very early in the sequence of lessons and challenges - you'll certainly get more experience as you go along and you can always go back and improve your portfolio's basic style, as much as you'll certainly enhance the information that is contained in it. Good luck with the lessons!

I’m stuck, can anyone tell me why this doesn’t work?
var request = new XMLHttpRequest();
request.open('GET', 'https://wind-bow.gomix.me/twitch-api', true);
// request.setRequestHeader('Api-User-Agent', 'Example/1.0');

request.onload = function() {
  if (request.status >= 200 && request.status < 400) {
    // Success!
    console.log("success");
    var data = JSON.parse(request.responseText);
  } else {
    // We reached our target server, but it returned an error

    console.log("failed");
  }
};
request.onerror = function() {
    console.log("an error occured"); //I get this
}
request.send();

The twitch API is giving 504 gateway error. Some issue with the link I guess
Omar Tan
@wheelhot
Dec 20 2017 12:37
Hmm, so how are we suppose to proceed? As the new API requires a user generated key

To identify your application to the API, every request must include your application’s client ID, either explicitly or implicitly by including an OAuth token. If you use an OAuth token in your request, the API figures out the client ID for you.

Requests can include both a client ID and an OAuth token. Requests without either one fail with an HTTP 400 error.

To get a client ID, register your application on the Twitch dev portal.

Omar Tan
@wheelhot
Dec 20 2017 12:45
Since the project will be publicly available, I thought it’s bad practice to have our OAuth token being displayed publicly? Which is why FCC is providing alternative workarounds that doesn’t required a token?

hi guys. Im's having an issue to send data from a form to Firebase Database. I've coded JS logic sending de value of each field per time after clickinh the send button. However, when I fill in all the fields and send the form, the data does not get stored in Firebase. Do you think that is because I'm not declaring "action" and "method" as form attributes?

So I'm getting started on my Tomato Timer and I'm having trouble thinking of a good way to make the countdown
I know one way is to take the current time, add the amount of time to it you want, then poll until the current time >= it, but that seems like it'd be hard to pause
I was also thinking of a hand made counter and using a "thread" that just decrements and sleeps for a second before it decrements again

it wont append the data from the JSON object into my html
Stephen James
@sjames1958gm

@Ryan-ED you need to call show streams after all the data has been received
streams.forEach(showStreams);
Move this into that if statement inside the AJAX callback
Linus Phan
@linusphan
Dec 20 2017 21:05
@Ryan-ED :D
you are working on the twitchapp too???
Lol, I started working on it today
can anyone explain to me what this means please? This server caches data to lower the request rate. To prevent abuses this server accepts GET requests only, and serves only routes /users/:user, /channels/:channel, and /streams/:stream. These are more than enough to complete the challenge.
I don't get the part that talks about the different routes
I was reading the API documentation reference and I saw information about users and streams. Did not see any about channels though
also I'm confused about what it means by "routes"
thanks in advance for any help
=)
Stephen James
@sjames1958gm
Dec 20 2017 21:18
@linusphan You can only make requests for users, channels and streams - the :user syntax means that that would be replaced by an actual user.
@linusphan For example
https://wind-bow.glitch.me/twitch-api/users/geekandsundry
https://wind-bow.glitch.me/twitch-api/streams/geekandsundry
https://wind-bow.glitch.me/twitch-api/channels/geekandsundry

@linusphan With this API, you may have to make multiple requests to get all the info to display

Please ignore this question if your lunch break is over. I'm having trouble understanding a closure example in YDKJS Up & Going. I tried asking in the Help chat, but we're all a little fuzzy on the process, and would appreciate some enlightenment
https://github.com/getify/You-Dont-Know-JS/blob/master/up%20%26%20going/ch2.md#closure

function makeAdder(x) {
    function add(y) {
        return y + x;
    };

    return add;
}

var plusOne = makeAdder( 1 );

var plusTen = makeAdder( 10 );

plusOne( 3 );        // 4  <-- 1 + 3
plusOne( 41 );        // 42 <-- 1 + 41

plusTen( 13 );        // 23 <-- 10 + 13

How does the parameter in plusOne()/plusTen() become the value of y in add()?

@eunipa perhaps run the code through this code visualizer. write down the variables and their values and where they are step by step. If you still don't get it, you may need to read YDKJS book Scope and Closures. It is a book just on this topic.

@eunipa you can think of plusOne as

function (y) {
   return y + 1;
}

so
plusOne(3) calls that function and y becomes 3

Text animated, but if the issue you were hitting was with the audio, .autoPlay() needs to be set up as an attribute of the audio element

@GitHub-Henry @sjames1958gm Thank you guys. I think Stephen's explanation made the most sense to me. So it's like plusOne(3) = function(y) { return y + 1 } Thank you so much!
