@ndburrus cool thanks, I was trying to set the attribute twice and it was just overwriting the attribute. I ended up fixing it.

@ndburrus I'm working through a book and it just had me created a drop down menu.

I was curious: ```

<body>
<div class="menu">Menu
<a href="#">Home</a>
<a href="#">News</a>
<a href="#">Articles</a>
<a href="#">Blog</a>
<a href="#">Contact</a>
</div>
</body>

That failed...but...still
at the <div class="menu">Menu, could I do an <img src> for an icon and use that instead?
Norvin Burrus
@ndburrus
Apr 28 2018 15:38
@MWBauer are we trying to create a responsive dropdown menu?
Marc
@MWBauer
Apr 28 2018 15:39
Please don't combine the 2 topics. No BEM here. Just working on a drop-down
Marc
@MWBauer
Apr 28 2018 15:48
So, the answer is yes, I can use an icon. I put in an <img src> and found an icon and plugged it in.
The size is too large tho
I tried going back to the <style> and doing menu {height: x width: x} and it didn't work.

I don't know if it is a suitable question to make here, but. Which framework do you recommend?

@sharkantropo If you want to be the most marketable as a JS dev right now, I would suggest ReactJS.

I'm working through a book and it has me making an xhtml page using js. first it had me write a line that would be displayed, now it's changing the color of it so that I can see how that works. But, it tells me to display it in a browser. If I'm working in codepen how do I do that?
Vicky Lai
@vickylai
Apr 28 2018 16:30
@MWBauer Codepen will render what you're building. Is your page working? What do you see?

Marc

Apr 28 2018 16:33
ok
thank you.
Clearly the book doesn't realize that I'm working in codepen so it didn't adjust itself.
Stephen James
@sjames1958gm
Apr 28 2018 16:34
Then you don't need head or body in the html section those are provided by codepen
If it only knew )
Marc
@MWBauer
Apr 28 2018 16:34
and I wasn't paying enough attention to make that adjustment.

Hi guys, I'm struggling with Bootstrap on the portfolio project.
https://codepen.io/ludobourgoin/pen/ZoLYdL
  1. I don't understand why my social media icons are not actually inline (I added the list-inline class to the ul tag, within the header block.
  2. I added a text-center clss in all my html blocks, but the content stays on the left.
    Any idea why I got these 2 bugs? Thanks in advance for your help.

No html in the JS window

Codepen wraps the js section in a script tag for you

Apr 28 2018 16:58
So there are no tags, but the line that is supposed to be written in (writeIn) isn't showing up. The styling for it is.
and don't worry about it.
I gotta get a move on.
Ya'll have a great day

I've a question regarding best practices for fetching static assets or JSON from third parties.
I've a Node API that's hosted on Heroku and I'm deploying my SPA to Netlify. The SPA needs to hit the API occasionally and so I'm calling fetch with a Request object that's initiated with the URL of my API.
Currently that URL is hardcoded as a string in the file e.g. some-sub-domain.herokuapp.com/resource/to/fetch?query=parameters . I'm wondering if there's a better way to store this URL in my code base? This looks like a very obvious code smell to me but I'm not sure what a better way to do it would be.

@VoxHumana Depending how you build your SPA it could come from a configuration file that get imported into your SPA.

when you create a responsive website do you have to use browser's toolbar for devices or just resizing browser is enough to get result?
i mean does it give you the same result?
Paul Borawski
@iAmNawa
Apr 28 2018 23:36
@newtothat It’s just showing you what it would look like on those devices. That width is what you are concerned about. If it isn’t showing what you want on that device then the code is incorrect.
