Am I the only one here who doesn’t like CSS Grid? I understand the use case for flexbox, but grid is so damn confusing

Eh, I guess it just isn’t as intuitive as flexbox

@stephepush It just has another use case than flexbox but is quite nice for that usecase

@stephepush
Its a bit confusimg but do a number of simple divs and youll see why its great as well
the main diff eith flexbox is that you can have x and y axis directions in a div, without havig to neat a child div to change flex direction.
I think Grid is great, but I tend to stick with flexbox due to incompatibility issues.

I don’t know what you want to achieve, but I know you can only animate elements, size, shape, margins, padding, positions. But not the background-images size, shape, etc. So yeah give it a try.

if you making a responsive website in codepen.io it is really a pain in bu.. to check the result everytime you wanna see it

pain

@cmccormack
Jun 24 2018 22:41
@newtothat why do you say it is a pain? If you change the view so your code is on the left side it's very easy to check responsiveness
Bjorn van de Peut
@bjorno43
Jun 24 2018 22:43
@cmccormack Cuz codepen is a pain.. in general.. :laughing:
Slow loading from time to time.. code indentation is a mess when editors are too small.. No, I really don't like actually working in it. Pasting code to test is fine, but using it as an IDE, no

I use codepen when I want to get something done quick and I don't need to save it locally, it does fine when you get used to the quirks
My main issue is there isn't a quick way to force a refresh without an actual F5 refresh
or changing behavior
Bjorn van de Peut
@bjorno43
Jun 24 2018 22:53
Ye. I think I'm gonna work on my own Codepen-like script. They're pretty easy to make and I can actually fix such quirks

I delete a semicolon to force refresh :D

Trouble is, I can't have it with user accounts. I've had to deal with the GDPR the past couple of days and it's such a freaking pain in the ass that I rather stay the hell away from it :laughing:
Christopher McCormack
@cmccormack
Jun 24 2018 22:57
Can't have codepen with user account?
Bjorn van de Peut
@bjorno43
Jun 24 2018 22:57
Nah I mean my own codepen-like project
I mean, saving code online isn't the issue. You can anonymize that just like JSFiddle or pastebin does. But if you actually want to create user accounts where everyone can save their own projects etc, the GDPR comes around the corner
Christopher McCormack
@cmccormack
Jun 24 2018 23:04
Doesn't GDPR allow you to store what you need as long as you make it clear to the user that you're storing it?
Bjorn van de Peut
@bjorno43
Jun 24 2018 23:06
Yes. But it involves a whole lot more than that
Like it's mandatory to have your full address and contact details in your privacy policy for your visitors. Users must be able to gain full insight in all the privacy data you have regarding them. They must be able to download it and they have the right to tell you to send that data to other providers. Visa versa you can also receive privacy data from other providers that you must implement into your own system, regardless of the format. As there's no standard for this crazy ass data sharing, you can't automate it. Not to mention different forms of encryption..
Christopher McCormack
@cmccormack
Jun 24 2018 23:12
Give it time and the tools will be created to help with it, I'm sure
Bjorn van de Peut
@bjorno43
Jun 24 2018 23:13
Also, did I mention that if you're potentially saving privacy data from minors (< 16), you're obligated to hire an official functione for data protection? :P
And you're obligated to gain contact with their parents yourself to verify permission
I'm sure standards and tools will be created eventually, ye. But as I said: It's a huge pain in the ass right now
Christopher McCormack
@cmccormack
Jun 24 2018 23:28
I bet, but it's good you're digging in to the requirements so you're more knowledgeable, I doubt many others are going to do that

@cmccormack how? by changing view?
a cool thing about codepen is youcan code from tablet or mobile when you are outside
Christopher McCormack
@cmccormack
Jun 24 2018 23:50
You can change view on desktop not sure about tablet or mobile
