no problem... i ran into the same problem when i first did the calculator.
Jenn Hardy
@smokeyLilac
hi all.. I'm wondering if anyone can help me figure out why my code to center align the images in my portfolio isn't working: http://codepen.io/smokeyLilac/pen/adaqKj
Salman Shahid
@salman-shahid
How do I execute two functions when my document is ready - I am using jQuery(document).ready()
Brett Guillory
@kurzninja
@mynameissal just insert the two functions inside a wrapper function that you include as an argument for .ready()
Salman Shahid
@salman-shahid
Thanks @kurzninja

Brett Guillory
@kurzninja
do you need more help with that or is that clear?
Salman Shahid
@salman-shahid
That's clear so put both inside 1 function then call that function in .ready
I wish I had thought of it..it seems so obvious now..
Brett Guillory
@kurzninja
do would do something like this:
$(document).ready(function(){

yourFirstFunction();
yourSecondFunction();

});
or you could just define and execute the functions inside the .ready() argument function all together
Salman Shahid
@salman-shahid
Yes, thank you!
Brett Guillory
@kurzninja
no problem :)
I haven't been working on FCC stuff in a while so it helps me to get back into coding by helping others :)
Salman Shahid
@salman-shahid
God.. I hate codepen
@JennHardy http://stackoverflow.com/questions/19941414/center-a-row-using-bootstrap-3 I think the first answer would be the quickest solution
Bruce Young
@mutantspore
lol … try to work locally using something like Atom.. just use codepen when you are finished… though getting help is harder without codePen. @mynameissal
Salman Shahid
@salman-shahid
It will mess up with zoom and resizing of window though
For me it's the other way around..I hate helping people who use codepen.. I use jsfiddler for my projects but I think I will starting using atom soon - I saw the dicussion earlier..
Brett Guillory
@kurzninja
I like Brackets :)
Jenn Hardy
@smokeyLilac
looking into it @mynameissal
Bruce Young
@mutantspore
I have Brackets, SublimeText and Atom.. I’ve migrated to Atom mostly. I don’t like to use SublimeText as I’m not paying for it and I feel bad when I get nagged to pay… which is their intention lol.
Brett Guillory
@kurzninja
does anyone know if Bootstrap has the ability to make a column unit span more than 1 row?
Jenn Hardy
@smokeyLilac
@mynameisal Good news: the rows are centered. Bad news: now my image sizing isn't working
also @mynameissal the centering isn't perfect but I think that's because I don't have bootstrap set up right on the page
Brett Guillory
@kurzninja
@JennHardy all you have to do is include it on the page as a <link> tag
Jenn Hardy
@smokeyLilac
At the top of my code @kurzninja ?
Brett Guillory
@kurzninja
Well there's the CSS you have to include at the top
and then I believe there's also some Javascript you have to include near the bottom of your code
if you're doing this in Codepen, all you have to do is select it in the CSS tab, I believe it will automatically include the Javascript as well if you do
if you're not in codepen, just check out here:
http://getbootstrap.com/getting-started/
Jenn Hardy
@smokeyLilac
I did that @kurzninja
Bruce Young
@mutantspore
no you’ll need to add the bootstrap.js yourself in the JS cog
Jenn Hardy
@smokeyLilac
It's been there since I first started the page
Brett Guillory
@kurzninja
@mutantspore seriously? That seems awfully shortsighted of Codepen to include the css without the js too :(
Jenn Hardy
@smokeyLilac
@mutantspore do I put that in under add classes to <html>?
Bruce Young
@mutantspore
yes you have to do it yourself.. a very very common issue on this help line
no just go to where you added jquery
and add in bootstrap.js too
Jenn Hardy
@smokeyLilac
So under the javascript cog?
Bruce Young
@mutantspore
yes
add it after jquery as it’s dependant on that
Jenn Hardy
@smokeyLilac
Ok I did that... it didn't change anything on my page
Bruce Young
@mutantspore
maybe not but it’s is necessary for bootstrap to function correctly
Jenn Hardy
@smokeyLilac
Ok thanks @mutantspore
