does anyone here know what's the difference between indexOf(a) and indexOf(+a)
somehow one of those worked in my code
and I don't understand the difference
Blake Geraci
@bgeraci714
can you post more of your code @sigursiguros ?
sigursiguros
@sigursiguros

function pairwise(arr, arg) {
var index = [];

for (var a in arr){
var temp1 = arr[a];

for (var i = 1; i<arr.length; i++){
var temp2 = arr[i];

if (temp1 + temp2 === arg && i > a && index.indexOf(+a) === -1 & index.indexOf(+i) === -1){
index.push(+a, +i);
break;
}
}
}

if (index.length >1){
var addAll = function (a , b){
return a + b;
};
}

else {
return 0;
}

}

pairwise([1, 1, 1], 2);
@bgeraci714 it maes a difference when I use indexOf(+a) and indexOf(a) and index.push(+a,+i) vs index.push(a,i)
basically the code wouldn't work without the pluses
which I don't understand why and couldn't find any solution on google
@jdtdesigns
@sigursiguros The + just parses the argument. It basically just turns a string value into an integer
sigursiguros
@sigursiguros
i see so indexOf doesn't work on a variable right?
Thanks @jdtdesigns @bgeraci714

Blake Geraci
@bgeraci714
and if you print out the values you get from your pairwise function
you get 01 with the +a and +i inside your indexOf
but if you change them to a and i, you get 0112 which is closer to what i think you're looking for
@jdtdesigns
@sigursiguros You can pass a variable into indexOf() or use it on a variable(str.indexOf())
Blake Geraci
@bgeraci714
ultimately the answer for pairwise([1,1,1],2) should be 4
@sigursiguros, be careful for that little pitfall. You might actually want the regular a and i as opposed to +a and +i
sigursiguros
@sigursiguros
the pairwise for ([1,1,1],2) should be 1
as the first 1 (index of 0) pairs with the second 2 (index of 1) and sum of 0 and 1 equals 1
sigursiguros
@sigursiguros
so why is passing a and +a giving different results in my code? I don't get it

Hi guys, html question. How do I center an image? <img src="" align="middle"> doesn't seem to work..

would anyone mind taking a look at my weather API project and critiquing it? :D also.. I'm curious as to what the error in the console means, since everything is working as it should be.. thanks!!

sigursiguros
@sigursiguros
@dsonnn align="middle" should work
Ethan Rose
@ethanrose
BY THE WAY---- on my codepen... it can't be https:// so you'll have to change it to http:// :/ I'm pretty sure that's how it has to be for chrome users now.. at least that's how I understand it...
otherwise the https:// codepen won't talk properly to the http:// API ................... that's my understanding
Dickson
@dsonnn
@sigursiguros somehow it works now. Thanks!

@sigursiguros I'm pretty sure that @jdtdesigns has it right but if you do it with the +, you miss out on matches besides the first.

@mutantspore
@aidansven your error is becasue of this in your <head> setup in the codepen settings <link href="css/materialdesignicons.min.css" media="all" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />

ah thank you @mutantspore and I now realize I wasn't even using materialdesign after all .. :) I removed that line :)

Hello could anyone tell me what am I doing wrong? I'm trying to get json from an api, but can't get it to work. I'm getting "Cross-Origin Request Blocked: The Same Origin Policy disallows reading the remote resource at http://api.forismatic.com/api/1.0/?method=getQuote&format=json&lang=en. (Reason: CORS header 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' missing)." error in web console. And this is my code : \$.getJSON("http://api.forismatic.com/api/1.0/?method=getQuote&format=json&lang=en", function(json){
console.log(json.quoteText);

}

@harshil1712
@sophiabrandt what I want to do is change the background according to the weather. Like example if it is rain I want a particular background, for clear weather I want another bg and so on.

@harshil1712 oh, sorry, I misunderstood. I don't know how to do it ATM,.
