@mhdavis
@vinaypuppal how do i override it in the css?
same goes for the home button and the navbar-brand
both the navbar-brand and "home" button have an href="#"
which is why they stay down, so i guess my question is how do i get them to take you back to the top of the page
vínαч puppαl
@vinaypuppal
@mhdavis for navbar-brand bootstrap has this so override these on :focus which is causing that problem
.navbar-default .navbar-brand:focus{
    color: #5e5e5e;
    background-color: transparent;
}
@mhdavis and for toggle button this so override to what ever colors or make transparent if you don't want any colors on focus
.navbar-default .navbar-toggle:focus {
    background-color: #ddd;
}
Michael Davis
@mhdavis
okay the toggle focus worked
but when i added the first bit to the css it made a white line appear at the top of the navbar when it was dropped down
the first line of css you sent me i tried, and when i clicked the navbar-brand and home, it turned them white (which is what I wanted) but then when i hovered over them they didn't change color afterwards
vínαч puppαl
@vinaypuppal

@mhdavis did you remove this becoz i dont see in your css

.navbar-default .navbar-collapse, .navbar-default .navbar-form {
    border-color: transparent;
}

If so add it back to remove border that your are noticing

Michael Davis
@mhdavis
that fixed it
sorry i thought i still had that in there
vínαч puppαl
@vinaypuppal
@mhdavis and for Home / navbar link override this css to whatever colors you want on :focus
.navbar-default .navbar-nav>li>a:focus{
    color: #333;
    background-color: transparent;
}
Michael Davis
@mhdavis
so with both of the :focus commands it still does the thing where once clicked, it stays white and doesn't change back
vínαч puppαl
@vinaypuppal
@mhdavis still what problems you have ??
I see only
  • no color change on :hover navbar-brand
  • and Home link :focus problem (this can be fixed with this above message)

no color change on :hover navbar-brand

for this use

.navbar-default .navbar-brand:hover{
    color: #f382ad;
}
@mhdavis
Michael Davis
@mhdavis
so change it to navbar-default instead of navbar
vínαч puppαl
@vinaypuppal
@mhdavis yeah that seems working
Michael Davis
@mhdavis
@vinaypuppal how do you link code in the chat?
also i tried .navbar-default .navbar-brand:hover{
color: #f382ad;
}
and the problem still persists
(p.s. thanks for your patiences on this)
*patience
vínαч puppαl
@vinaypuppal
@mhdavis hover mouse over time of message then right click and you can copy link address
Michael Davis
@mhdavis
hmm that didn't seem to work
when you say hover over time, do you mean hover over the time stamp in the previous message?
vínαч puppαl
@vinaypuppal

how do you link code in the chat?

yes

Michael Davis
@mhdavis
.navbar .navbar-brand {
  color: white;
  border-color: transparent;
}

.navbar .navbar-brand:hover {
  color: #f382ad;
}

.navbar-default .navbar-nav>li>a {
  color: #fff;
}

.navbar-default .navbar-nav>li>a:hover {
  color: #f382ad;
}

.navbar-default .navbar-nav>li>a:focus{
    color: #333;
    background-color: transparent;
}

.navbar {
  background-color: black;
}
i figured it out
(there was a video on youtube from fcc lol)
vínαч puppαl
@vinaypuppal
@mhdavis i think you can override colors on :focus but still you need to click outside of link to change its state from :focus to normal then only :hover state gets triggered
Michael Davis
@mhdavis
@vinaypuppal yea you are right

Hi everyone! I'm working on my weather app and I really thought I was doing better at not making so many mistakes this time - I spent a lot of time checking it before I even put it into codepen, but I am still having problems, and I have been checking it and fixing it after it went into codepen. If anyone has a minute to look at it and let me know why it isn't doing anything, I would super appreciate it! https://codepen.io/sfmajors/pen/amBrOL?editors=1010

@mhdavis

@grantknaver
Quick question for you guys
How do I center my navbar-brand effectively through CSS or hell better yet bootstrap? Yes, I can change the margin, but that is subjective and I can't tell how accurately it is centered. *P.S. text-align: center does not work.
