Gaston Kirsman
@gastikirs
The best way is giving it the top parameter?
Sorin Ruse
@sorinr
@NitinNair89 it was a joke about "i'm using my phone today" :)
Nitin Chandran Nair
@NitinNair89
@gastikirs depends on the element. U can decrease padding-bottom or margin-botton
@sorinr Oh sorry. I meant using my phone for gitter so can't help much with coding.
Gaston Kirsman
@gastikirs
@NitinNair89 Giving top is not recomended?
Sorin Ruse
@sorinr
@NitinNair89 it was just a joke. know what you meant. :)
Nitin Chandran Nair
@NitinNair89
@gastikirs decreasing the top will move element up and vice-versa. You may try 'bottom' as well. You can use it if you're sure it won't hamper your site's responsiveness :)
Gaston Kirsman
@gastikirs
@NitinNair89 I will do it , ty

TheGr8Lemmoncawl
@TheGr8Lemmoncawl
Hi everyone. I'm confused on the JSON/API projects. What do I need to change to make this work?
http://codepen.io/TheGr8Lemmoncawl/pen/BLAZQY
Nitin Chandran Nair
@NitinNair89
@TheGr8Lemmoncawl Can you add some console displays and see what response you get from the URL?
TheGr8Lemmoncawl
@TheGr8Lemmoncawl
Console displays? Like console.log(html)?
I'm getting: XMLHttpRequest cannot load http://api.forismatic.com/api/1.0/. No 'Access-Control-Allow-Origin' header is present on the requested resource. Origin 'http://s.codepen.io' is therefore not allowed access.
Nitin Chandran Nair
@NitinNair89
Try HTTPS
The dreaded cross border origin ..lol
TheGr8Lemmoncawl
@TheGr8Lemmoncawl
VM1182 jquery.min.js:4 GET https://api.forismatic.com/api/1.0/ net::ERR_INSECURE_RESPONSE
Is it a problem with the API? Should I try a different one? Or is it a problem with my code?
Nitin Chandran Nair
@NitinNair89
@TheGr8Lemmoncawl let me check their api doc
It is not a problem or an issue with code. It is more of a semantic on using few APIs. @sorinr help me with the terms here pls? :)
@TheGr8Lemmoncawl from where did you get that URL? Which challenge are you trying to complete?
Sorin Ruse
@sorinr
@TheGr8Lemmoncawl how do you call that api? can you share the pen link?
TheGr8Lemmoncawl
@TheGr8Lemmoncawl
@NitinNair89 It's the random quote machine challenge.
Nitin Chandran Nair
@NitinNair89
It is not possible to retrieve data from any website or server unless that web server has a service for it.
Your URL took me to a different site I am not sure of. Does that website provide you random quotes? How did you get that URL?
@TheGr8Lemmoncawl
TheGr8Lemmoncawl
@TheGr8Lemmoncawl
Emanuele Antonelli
@Em-Ant
@TheGr8Lemmoncawl it's a CORS issue. You need to use JSONP format. Look at the code in this example http://codepen.io/dting/pen/PqrZgb
Sorin Ruse
@sorinr
@TheGr8Lemmoncawl try this: quotes
TheGr8Lemmoncawl
@TheGr8Lemmoncawl
@sorinr So you just replaced the URL? where did you find that?
@sorinr @NitinNair89 Thanks for you help!

Nitin Chandran Nair
@NitinNair89
@TheGr8Lemmoncawl the information is there on the link you just sent. They have written it to use only with JSONP :)
Sorin Ruse
@sorinr
@TheGr8Lemmoncawl in the api documentation. for every api u need in the future just read its docs to understand how to call it in a way to get the results u want
TheGr8Lemmoncawl
@TheGr8Lemmoncawl
Ok. I'm not sure of the difference..
Nitin Chandran Nair
@NitinNair89
Even the parameters for the URL is mentioned. So please read it once carefully.
Gaston Kirsman
@gastikirs
@NitinNair89 Do you know why the 'F' is not aligned with the temperature?
I wrote display inline-block,but doesnt work..
Nitin Chandran Nair
@NitinNair89
@TheGr8Lemmoncawl some API only needs the 'base' URL (like the one you used before) and some API need extra details. So for Forismatic, along with the base URL, they need few more parameters from the caller to ensure the service (here quotes) is provided correctly. :)
j1417
@j1417
hi!! how can i set the width of the background grey to full??http://codepen.io/Juan1417/pen/BLrjOY
Nitin Chandran Nair
@NitinNair89
@gastikirs it is not detecting location (I am using phone) so I don't know where the 'F' is being displayed currently. Have you tried vertical-align: middle;
Gaston Kirsman
@gastikirs
@NitinNair89 Doesnt work vertical-align: middle;
Nitin Chandran Nair
@NitinNair89
Can u send screenshot?
Just wanna see how it looks..
@j1417 I don't see background color or image when I run your pen.. :(
