anyone did "Build a random Quote Machine" ? where is he getting the quotes from? there is no way he manually wrote those in
@yonichanowitz They are from an API that provides quotes for you.
@yonichanowitz Some people just copy-paste quotes in an array but I would advise against it. I feel like the goal for that exercise is to get our feet wet in API calls. The most commonly used one is the one found at http://forismatic.com/en
WTF, i was working on this for months and it says nothing about using API's!!!
Hello everyone, Im on the "build a random quote machine" challenge and am having trouble figuring out how the tweet button will tweet the quote that is showing. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Yes @jspeda I have added the Tweet button and can do basic things, but im unsure how to tweet the current quote that is being shown.
@kevnbot , according to what @TylerMoeller just told me, if you have a JSON object, you can write a function to change the quote into text when a user clicks a link, that will put it out as a tweet. .. i think
hmm ok. ill explore that @TylerMoeller
i don't remember exactly how that api works but you'll need to save the quote into a variable and probably concatenate it into the URL string that is triggered when you click the share button @kevnbot
Ok thats making sense, Ill try that
@kevnbot It may take you some time to figure out how to retrieve the data and use it in your project, but that's what the challenge is all about. The normal person can take quite a lot of time to learn each new thing you're challenged with. It's just the reality of web dev. ;)
Yea ive been chipping away at this project. this is the last hurdle for me. almost there!
