I think it all adds to the fantasy of the series - people so willing to follow another person simply because of their bloodline
modern day monarchies make no sense to me either, but there's a certain fantasy about them that makes it intriguing

I think it's the things they do that bother me, for example, 10 year old kids don't have wisdom that astounds 40 year old adults, they just don't.
