@annDAcoder_gitlab You probably need to put the code you added inside the function.
@RoniqueRicketts No, just passing knowledge. Recently I had to decode a jwt using node-jose library
Ronique Ricketts
@RoniqueRicketts
May 21 2018 00:04

@sjames1958gm if I was to set up a jwt as

const payload = { "alg": "HS256", "typ": "JWT", "sub": user._id,};
      const secret = {"passKey": "4mm0n1qu3!"};
      const options = {
        "algorithm": "HS256",
        "expiresIn": "1m",
        "user": user.userType
       };

      let tokenSigned =  jwt.sign(payload, secret['passKey'], { expiresIn: 86400});

if changes are made to the string would it be rejected on the backend?

Stephen James
@sjames1958gm
May 21 2018 00:05
Yes, the string is "signed" which means that any changes would be detected.

In regex I am trying to create an expression that matches only 10 digits, ^[\d]{10}$ doesn't work as well as a few variations similar to this like (^[\d]{10}$), how would I go about doing this? This is the regexr link if it helps https://regexr.com/3po7n

I think some of the learning platforms (websites) that know about (JavaScript, jQuery, vue), I do not know how to learn.
Gulsvi
@gulsvi
May 21 2018 16:22
@Dimitrios51 The javascript works, but it's a little inconsistent to mix up vanilla js and jquery the way you have it. if you want to avoid jQuery, you can use fetch() instead of getJSON. It's also hard to see the page on mobile-sized screens. You may want to define some media queries to make the content larger on smaller screens.
Try to do this project without global variables - usually not a good practice to use those, especially with async code like this.
And it looks like you are hard coding the same icon image for every type of weather. Try to get an icon that shows the current weather conditions.
Dimitris Nik.
@dimitrissnk
May 21 2018 16:31
@gulsvi I got confused with all those variables, so I defined some global variables so as to use them in other functions. What is an another way of doing it?
As for the media queries, of course I will check it, it isn't totally "finished" yet.
Gulsvi
@gulsvi
May 21 2018 16:33
@Dimitrios51
function createGreeting() {
  var greeting = "hello world";
  sayGreeting(greeting);
}

function sayGreeting(greeting) {
  console.log(greeting);
}
That lets us use the greeting variable in another function without making it a global variable. Pass it from one function to another
Dimitris Nik.
@dimitrissnk
May 21 2018 16:34
What do you mean "hard coding the same icon image" ? You mean the sun icon that is shown before locating the user? I will change that too...I put that icon there just to see if it works. I will find a way of using some if/else/case statements and enter my own icons(which I will get from google) according to the weather description in the API

Gulsvi
@gulsvi
May 21 2018 16:35
@Dimitrios51 Yes, that's what I meant - you have the same icon every time. Here is the list of icons for that API and their condition codes: https://openweathermap.org/weather-conditions
Dimitris Nik.
@dimitrissnk
May 21 2018 16:35
@gulsvi wait, when you allow to get locations, isn
isn't the icon changing?
Gulsvi
@gulsvi
May 21 2018 16:37
@Dimitrios51 Yes, the icon changes from a do not enter sign to the partly sunny icon. What I'm saying is the weather icon is always partly sunny even if it's raining.
^That icon is what you have hard coded in your javascript
Jason Luboff
@JLuboff
May 21 2018 16:38
@webhx I'm not sure I understand
Dimitris Nik.
@dimitrissnk
May 21 2018 16:38
@gulsvi Ohh I see...
Gulsvi
@gulsvi
May 21 2018 16:40
If it's raining, you should get the weather code 10d, so you can get the icon for that weather condition with: https://openweathermap.org/img/w/10d.png
If it's snowing, you get weather code 13d from the api, or weather icon: https://openweathermap.org/img/w/13d.png
etc
Dimitris Nik.
@dimitrissnk
May 21 2018 16:42
I am trying to make it change according to the weather condition, so, get the link from the API
something like this $(".icon").replaceWith("<img class='icon' src='"+icon+"'>");
but it doesn't work if var icon =${data.weather.icon}
It works however if I define icon to lets say an image location link
Gulsvi
@gulsvi
May 21 2018 16:46
@Dimitrios51 They changed the weather api and give a URL now, I see. No need to use the codes like I was saying, sorry for the confusion.
You can just update the src attribute of your .icon element:
$(".icon").attr("src", data.weather[0].icon);
Christopher McCormack
@cmccormack
May 21 2018 16:46
@gulsvi @Dimitrios51 not all entries in the weather array contain the icon property
you may have to iterate over the array until you find an entry with an iconproperty an if none is found use a default
Gulsvi
@gulsvi
May 21 2018 16:47
Error handling is important as @cmccormack says

Gulsvi
@gulsvi
May 21 2018 16:51
@Dimitrios51 Because the weather property is an array and to get the first value of an array, we have to use [0]
  weather: [
    {
      id: 500,
      main: "Rain",
      description: "light rain",
      icon:

Hey guys, I'm pretty sure I am doing the chunky monkey algorithm and I think am getting the algorithm right so far but I can't seem to find whats missing.

function chunkArrayInGroups(arr, size) {
  var newArray = [];
  for (i=0; i <arr.length; i++) {
    if (i % size == 0) {
      newArray.push(arr.slice(size - i, size));
    }
  }
  return newArray;
  }

chunkArrayInGroups(["0", "1", "2", "3", "4", "5"], 2);

I don't understand why my code is returning this:

[ [], [ '0', '1' ], [] ]
Christopher McCormack
@cmccormack
May 21 2018 16:57
@ArchivalBoat50 should probably be something like slice(i, i + size)
Jason Luboff

@cmccormack I don't quite understand the slice(i, i + size) thing though. Do you mind explaining?
Christopher McCormack
@cmccormack
May 21 2018 17:03
@ArchivalBoat50 well let's say your index is at 0 and your size is 2, slice(i, i+size) would be slice(0, 0+2) = slice(0, 2) which will give the first two items of the array
@ArchivalBoat50 then your loop will increment until your condition is true again and do the same, this time with slice(2, 2+2) = slice(2, 4)
ArchivalBoat50
@ArchivalBoat50
May 21 2018 17:04
@cmccormack Oh I get it now
Christopher McCormack
@cmccormack
May 21 2018 17:05
you can also get rid of your if statement by changing the increment in your for loop to ...; i += size) {

Long ago (about 2 years) there was a question on Stack Overflow about securily handling image uploads. I've answered that question and it attracted a lot of attention. That led to development of my ImageSecure library. Since then the question on SO had more than 20k visits and the library has been downloaded a couple of thousend times. As I'm receiving a lot of emails about it, it's time that I take the library to the next level. But with the amount of users I realise that this is becoming too big for me to do alone

Why not both? I mean, the library was developed for PHP users. I'm all for supporting more languages, of course! But I see no reason to abondon the one where it all started

if there's a month that starts on a saturday it will ignore for the count that week since for moment the weeks only start at monday, even tough I can change the start of the week I need to be able to know what range of weeks does a month has and somehow having some issue doing it

@tiagocorreiaalmeida The Date class has a method that tells you day of week for a given date. You can check it, if Sat then add 2, if sun add 1 to get first working day of month and then go from there.
0 is sun, so if 0 add 1. Sat is 6, so if Sat then add 2 to the numeric day you used as input.

Can someone help me out with a Calendar app I'm trying to make?
here's the codepen
so basically I'm trying to grab the date when I click on the td for it
however I'm not sure how to pull that info
looking at the react dev tools, the date number is under props.children however that brings back an undefined when I try to log it

@Keggatron In regular JS..I'd probably just give it a class and ID and then determine it from there but I'm sure React has a much cleaner way (of which I'm unfamilar.. so I guess I'm not really helpful here..)

@JLuboff The eventual goal of course is to not need to be employed. But, that's a dream and I don't see it coming to fruition any time soon.
@JLuboff Well, there's the Powerball. But, the chance of that... WOOO that's be nice.

@JLuboff I think if you win that you'd feel better giving me one million dollars. We could both invest in multiple 6-plex properties and rent out the other units for 1500.00 a month.
BOOM! Retired.
That's actually my dream right there.
Own 3 four-plex's or 2 six-plex's
12 Units.
Live in 1

Rent out 11 for 1500.oo per month
11*1500=$16500.00 per month
9 of the 12 units would cover all of your monthly expenses.
The other 3 units get put into a savings account.
And if you're living in 1 unit. You can basically be putting 1000.00 a month into the savings account.
<3
The dream.

If only it was that easy, lol.. There's stuff like taxes, insurrences, maintenance, administration.. the list goes on quite a bit. If you think you can just sit back and enjoy your dream, I'm afraid you'll be up for a pretty harsh wake up call :laughing:

@bjorno43 Sure, I've done the math though. And yes, there are those things. But, when I factored everything for just a fourplex (newly built) ... the 3 units would cover everything.
@bjorno43 And I could live in the 4th basically for free.
@bjorno43 Though, I wouldn't. I would treat it like I was paying rent and put what I could into a savings account.
@bjorno43 You're correct that it isn't just "poof" everything is covered. But, 2 units would cover the mortgage. and the other unit covers the taxes and insurance costs. Maint and Admin... There really shouldn't be any maint costs on a new building for at least 10 months.
That would easily put away $25000.00

@revisualize Yes, but it's not like you can just sit on your ass all day. Being your own boss doesn't mean you can do whatever you want. Well, technically you can of course, but your dream will crash down into the floor a lot faster than you build it. It's a lot of work, probably even a lot more than being employed. Unless you hire ppl to do it for you, but that means more expenses

@bjorno43 Sure.
But, I know my damn stupid landlord doesn't do a damn thing for the property that I'm in.

And there are plenty of property owners around her.
So.

I havent been to zip recuiter for a long while But cruising the job boards over there used to give me a idea of what was being looked for in different areas. I suggested it to a friend in here a while ago And he got picked up after about 5 months of coding here.

I'd love to get a 45ft sailboat and just ... drift away.
But, I see real estate being a better investment for the long-term plan.
Sailors tend to say that the best days are the day you buy your sailboat and ... the day you sell your sailboat.
