@JLuboff @cmccormack Is adding fcc certs to resume a good idea?
Brad
@bradtaniguchi
Nov 10 2018 00:01
@ezioda004 Yea if your resume isn't filled with other relevant info. I'd rather mention what you did in the projects (full-stack web app, hosted here) than the cert itself tho
Simon Cordova
@gbsimon87
Nov 10 2018 00:02
@JLuboff missed your message how you been man?
I've been away for some time
Jason Luboff
@JLuboff
Nov 10 2018 00:02
@ezioda004 I've debated about that myself (given I haven't updated my resume in 5 years)
The one problem I have with the FCC certs (or at least the legacy) is there was no actual check. You did the projects indepently, turned them in, and as far as I know, no one actually checked them
@gbsimon87 Doing alright man..you? Back in London yet?
Simon Cordova
@gbsimon87
Nov 10 2018 00:04
No man, the work application went in today though, get a response in 10 days max!
But I need to get back there quick, I've got a flight from London to South America on Dec 8th, cutting it so close
Jason Luboff
@JLuboff
Nov 10 2018 00:04
dang! You were hoping for like a 3-4 week turn around weren't you?
Simon Cordova
@gbsimon87
Nov 10 2018 00:04
I was hoping for 3 week max, it's been over 2 months! :(
Jason Luboff
@JLuboff
Nov 10 2018 00:05
Dang that sucks... but you've been able to work remotely?
Aditya
@ezioda004
Nov 10 2018 00:05
@JLuboff @bradtaniguchi Ah gotcha. Any other suggestions? I'm applying for React/Frontend jobs.
Simon Cordova

Nov 10 2018 00:05

My lady was here for our anniversary and her bday this past weekend though, so that was alright you know

Yeah been working remotely, starting at 6am and finishing late because it got soooooo damn hard lol

But learning like a beast so I'm happy
@ezioda004 good luck on the job hunt man, I just had a million myself two months ago
Jason Luboff
@JLuboff
Nov 10 2018 00:06
@ezioda004 I think having a solid portfolio website (which you do) is a good thing to have
I'm not positive where you're located, but apparently LinkedIn is pretty important now a days..
@gbsimon87 Awesome man
At least you've been able to keep working
Brad
@bradtaniguchi
Nov 10 2018 00:07
@JLuboff More than before? I get random messages every now and then, but then I don't touch my linkedin much (no job hunting atm)
Jason Luboff
@JLuboff
Nov 10 2018 00:08
@bradtaniguchi My wife was telling me that a lot of companies are starting to ask for LinkedIn profiles over resumes... but ya Im not job hunting either so :shrug:
Aditya
@ezioda004
Nov 10 2018 00:08
@gbsimon87 Thanks! Trying to get a job before sem exam in december otherwise I'll look for jobs afterwards.
@JLuboff Yeah linkedin is a must apparently, I'm at India's silicon valley, Bangalore.
Brad
@bradtaniguchi
Nov 10 2018 00:08
That's smart, ill have to keep that in mind
Jason Luboff
@JLuboff
Nov 10 2018 00:11
@ezioda004 Do you have any coding friends there? They may have some insight about having FCC certs
Dang...Bangalore has a population of over 10 million
Simon Cordova
@gbsimon87
Nov 10 2018 00:13
@ezioda004 I've gotten all 3 of my programming jobs through LinkedIn fyi
@ezioda004 I saw your question about the FCC certifications
I definitely suggest adding them, but have a nice portfolio (personally I used my Codepen account and my personal website) as a showcase
People like to see that you've built something
@JLuboff how's your fam any trips lately?
@ezioda004 Just saw your website that's more than enough for showcasing
Jason Luboff
@JLuboff
Nov 10 2018 00:16
Family is doing good, thanks for asking. No trips.. I have not next week but the following week off. Main thing then is celebrating the little mans birthday

My lady got off the pill, so we'll see how that goes...

Maybe become the newest member of the mile high club - ey oh! lol

Simon Cordova
@gbsimon87
Nov 10 2018 00:18
I haven't yet, I'm going to propose in Feb as we are going skiing in France with a few friends
Mountain top proposal, that'll give her something to brag about haha
And technically I'm working remotely the 1st week and holidays the next two
Jason Luboff
@JLuboff
Nov 10 2018 00:20
Good luck with both of those
Having a kid is a big step, but so long as you're ready for it, it'll be great
Aditya
@ezioda004
Nov 10 2018 00:20
@JLuboff No coding friends there, I feel like its more traditional here..like if you have degree, you get jobs a lot easier. Its kinda changing since Google and other big companies have removed the degree requirements, so I'm just applying to startups. Currently my resume is a void that I'm tryna fill :D
@gbsimon87 Thanks, I'll mention FCC certs, at the very least it shows self initialization for what its worth.
Simon Cordova
@gbsimon87
Nov 10 2018 00:21
Thanks buds :)
I'm pretty ready I think, I've done enough partying and f*cking around already - and she's a tad older so it's best to do so now
Jason Luboff
@JLuboff
Nov 10 2018 00:22
@ezioda004 a degree definitely makes things easier but the best thing you can do is apply any where and every where... even if you may not think you're qualified
@gbsimon87 a tad older eh?
Simon Cordova
@gbsimon87
Nov 10 2018 00:23
37 now, so its best to start moving things

Brad
@bradtaniguchi
Nov 10 2018 00:56
I hate inline comments that just tell me what the line does. Like I wanna know WHY, not WHAT, the code is the WHAT, I don't need to know WHAT WHAT

hey anyone know how to cancel promises in case a uer navigated right after a call?
actually canceling axios or similar calls
Simon Cordova
@gbsimon87
Nov 10 2018 04:18
@Pagnito maybe handle it with a catch ?
Pagnito
@Pagnito
Nov 10 2018 04:20
well catch works when the request isnt executed if im correct, but i need to cancel when its alrdy on the way to the browser and the setState can no longer work because the user navigated to a different page wit a different state
Simon Cordova
@gbsimon87
Nov 10 2018 04:30
You can try bluebird

Yogender
@yb1997
Nov 10 2018 14:23
why is this code not working ?
"C:\\temp\\file.txt".replace("\\", "/");
Yogender
@yb1997
Nov 10 2018 14:29
even this one works fine but somehow it doesn't work for /
path.replace('\\', '😃');

@JLuboff
Nov 10 2018 17:59
Wtf. Have no internet besides cellular...so decided to read some medium articles...and the app only lets you read a couple for free but I’m pretty sure the website doesn’t restrict you??
Christopher McCormack
@cmccormack
Nov 10 2018 18:01
@JLuboff that sucks they must have changed it a bit. I pay for it so I can archive articles for trips where I have no service
Jason Luboff
@JLuboff
Nov 10 2018 18:03
I don’t use it enough to pay for it
Guess I’ll just read the react docs again...😂
Potentially no internet for days😟
Which means no tv or anything. Cellular data is going to get chewed through quick
Christopher McCormack
@cmccormack
Nov 10 2018 18:04
ouch from the fires?
Is there a starbucks nearby that does have it? Just spend the day there :D
Jason Luboff

you guys can come to phoenix and visit us!
only like a 12 hour drive right?
Jason Luboff
@JLuboff
Nov 10 2018 18:05
I’m surprised it even went down...I’d think they would have redundant routes
Let me check
I think my lte went to shit...map won’t pull anything up
I know works business line is down too. Spectrum is going to be loosing some money this month...
Christopher McCormack
@cmccormack
Nov 10 2018 18:08
yeah.. your home internet may rely on the same backhauls the cell towers use at some point
Jason Luboff
@JLuboff
Nov 10 2018 18:14
Cell is through AT&T so don’t think we’ll have trouble since we haven’t yet and the fire isn’t necessarily near us
Pagnito
@Pagnito
Nov 10 2018 18:15
hey im tryin to implement a scroll api call, so every 700 px or so when the user scrolls past the visible content i would make an api call for more content. i made my routes chunk the content with splice() but now i dont know how to handle the front end without hardcoding jsx and new state for every new content chunk
Pagnito
@Pagnito
Nov 10 2018 18:30
the thing is i dont want to add on to the state, that would rerender the content already visible
Jason Luboff
@JLuboff
Nov 10 2018 18:43
If you’re using state, if my understanding is correct...React only renders the new content and doesn’t need to rerender what was already part of the state
Pagnito
@Pagnito
Nov 10 2018 19:03
oh true, thnx

Nov 10 2018 20:04
is any1 who knows vue.js here?
alpox
@alpox
Nov 10 2018 20:23
@diomed :wave:
That'd be me
May Kittens Devour Your Soul
@diomed
Nov 10 2018 20:53
@alpox I have a data object user in file EditProfileForm.vue
      user: {
        company: "Dublin Pub",
        username: "leolo",
        email: "soddenheim@io.net",
        firstName: "diomed",
        lastName: "whatever",
}
and I wanna use that in another file
UserCard.vue
how do I display it there?
alpox
@alpox
Nov 10 2018 20:56
@diomed In another file? Do you use the component from the other file as a child component of EditProfileForm?
May Kittens Devour Your Soul
@diomed
Nov 10 2018 20:57
I am not sure. but everything of this is connected into one dashboard application and it shows there on the same page, one next to each other. so probably?
alpox
@alpox
Nov 10 2018 20:59
If they are next to each other its likely that they are in a sibling relationship and not in parent-child relationship. You can only pass data down to children from a prop and not to siblings
May Kittens Devour Your Soul
@diomed
Nov 10 2018 21:00
so is there a way for this to be displayed in another file?
I mean it must be, right?
alpox
@alpox
Nov 10 2018 21:00
You could use Vuex to inject it to any component you want (Application state in the vuex store) or you can put that data object into the next parent which is parent to both components and pass it down to those children.
Ofc. you could also create an external file where the data is kept statically and import it into those components but that is seldomly a good option
May Kittens Devour Your Soul
@diomed
Nov 10 2018 21:01
isn't data kept statically here anyway?
alpox
@alpox
Nov 10 2018 21:01
Its enclosed in a component, but more or less statically too
