Which I would be just a more formalized way of talking about the data.

Thoughts on making SQLite the default db backend instead of a local PostgreSQL server?
Trey Hunner
@treyhunner
macro1, that plan sounds fine to me if you think it makes development easier
I think I went with postgres because it mirrored the server setup, I was using JSONField (and thought that actually mattered for some reason), and I thought the default Ubuntu setting was postgres:postgres but maybe it's not
Micah Denbraver
@macro1
I've set it up twice now, you need to set the password for 'postgres' manually. It's not a big deal, but it would be nice if the README has 3 commands, you run them and you're in business. You can still override to have a local PostgreSQL server obviously, and the CI service will still test using PostgreSQL.
Trey Hunner
@treyhunner
macro1, I agree easy setup is best for the default
Trey Hunner
@treyhunner
macro1, I can't remember, were you going to trigger similarity relation updates on every similarities model change?
Micah Denbraver
@macro1
@treyhunner I think this is what you have in #25, I'm sure it'll be fine even with some load.
sorry, #30
Trey Hunner
@treyhunner
macro1, yeah I made #30 to get something that kind of worked
Micah Denbraver
@macro1
Is it still WIP?
Trey Hunner
@treyhunner
yes in the sense that it doesn't actually remove old artist connections when you change the artist name and it has no tests
but I'd be fine with merging and/or deploying it for now
and considering it a to-do bug fix
oh I thought of another interesting future feature
while typing similar artist names, similarity searches are run for typed artists and suggestions are given for other similar artists
that'd be semi-real time
regardless it might be useful to do background searches on any artist name that's put in the system
Micah Denbraver
@macro1
might be able to outsource that actually
Micah Denbraver
@macro1
@treyhunner: I fixed the SimilarTest post_save() and pre_save() issues on your branch
figured I'd tag you here in case you wanted to finish up that PR sooner than later

Yo
Micah Denbraver
@macro1
@Sonictherocketman, what was that about fixtures?
also, for the record this is public and persistent
so no keys, pw's, etc
Brian Schrader
@Sonictherocketman
haha
This is the step I'm stuck on.
Though the app does run
Micah Denbraver
@macro1
do you normally use http github urls?
i think trey and i both use ssh, so it might be set to clone using ssh
but yeah, the fixtures aren't technically needed... i don't think their used for the tests either
it's just an initial state for the app, so you have a fairly complete snapshot of the db
Brian Schrader
@Sonictherocketman
Yeah that's what I figured. All I did was copy/pasta the command from the realm.
s/realm/readme
It looks like my copy works, so I'll play with it. Also Im using sqlite but I couldn't install without brew install posgresql
so there's that.
Micah Denbraver
@macro1
yeah, i have a pr to remove the postgresql requirement i think
it wasn't merged because we didn't come to a consensus on the dependency management
ci actually tests with postgresql
but it's overkill for local
Brian Schrader
@Sonictherocketman
Ah okie.
