@fhedberg
No worries, i fully understand.
George Zogopoulos-Papaliakos
@Georacer
May I ask: What is the premise of your efforts? Hobby? Studies research?
Fredrik Hedberg
@fhedberg
The swash plate simulation is not too important at the moment, a simple 2 rotor bi-copter with tiltable rotors and regular airplane control-surfaces would be awesome.
Pure hobby :)
George Zogopoulos-Papaliakos
@Georacer
Do you want the wings to tilt with the rotors as well? Do you have a sketch or a picture of your vehicle?
Fredrik Hedberg
@fhedberg
So fixed wings. Rotating nacelles.
George Zogopoulos-Papaliakos
@Georacer
How does that work during hover? How does this stabilize itself in the pitch axis?
Fredrik Hedberg
@fhedberg
Pitching the swashplates.
George Zogopoulos-Papaliakos
@Georacer
Ah, right.
Fredrik Hedberg
@fhedberg
Code for helicopter mode is here: diydrones/ardupilot#1860
Need to clean up the tilting code before i push it.
Sorry, need to run. I'd be happy to try out the FireFly model once it's running. Think just doing that would help out alot.
George Zogopoulos-Papaliakos
@Georacer
Okay, we'll talk again. Goodnight!
Fredrik Hedberg
@fhedberg
Great. Take care.

Hello everyone
Long time no post.
But vacations are almost over and as you can see a lot of commits just went up
A lot of work is done when you get one week and no internet connection. ;)
So, a short recap of the new commits:
  1. A new friction model aircraft with no wheels, that will hopefully solve the sliding problem when on the ground.
  1. A place for mixing schemes in the code, in order to make manual control of multi-rotor and hybrid vehicles a bit easier. Though it goes through compilation for now
  1. Provision for multiple aerodynamic surfaces. You can now model separate wings on your aircraft and place them on separate positions in respect to the CG. This has not been tested though yet.

@Georacer
  1. Additions and updates in the documentation. A tutorial for building fixed-wing models is in the writings, but some equations refuse to solve themselves, so it still needs a bit of work.
@tridge Hi Tridge. Last time we talked, you were trying to use l_l for a quadrotor SITL. However, due to the aircraft sliding on the ground the EKF couldn't initialize
The new friction model should perform better, so I'd like to try again. However, I can't start the SITL successfully.
The last known good command is: sim_vehicle.sh -j8 -f last_letter:uav_name:=quadrotor --console --map
George Zogopoulos-Papaliakos
@Georacer

However, I get the message

sim_vehicle.sh -j8 -f last_letter:uav_name:=quadrotor --console --map

in the xterm window

Is there a new launching method?
Andrew Tridgell
@tridge
hi George, it should be the same, but I'll give it a go soon and let you know
George Zogopoulos-Papaliakos
@Georacer
thanks!
Oh, I got the message wrong. The correct error message is:
/usr/bin/xterm: Can't execvp /home/george/ardupilot/.elf: No such file or directory
Andrew Tridgell
@tridge
ahh, were you starting in the ArduCopter directory?
George Zogopoulos-Papaliakos
@Georacer
I think ArduPlane has the same problem. Let me check
Andrew Tridgell
@tridge
(off to get some sleep, sorry!)
George Zogopoulos-Papaliakos
@Georacer
no problem. We'll talk on Tuesday
George Zogopoulos-Papaliakos
@Georacer
It seems to be a general SITL problem for me, even for vanilla. I posted on the ardupilot gitter for help
George Zogopoulos-Papaliakos
@Georacer
I kind of solved the issue, but with an issue report on ardupilot: diydrones/ardupilot#2730
Another quick fix was needed (bugs), and I was able to launch AP::SITL + l_l
sadly, the problem of low simulation frame-rate still exists.
I was launching with: sim_vehicle.sh -j8 -f last_letter --console --map
If I disable last_letter's contorl injector node, then APM's control injector doesn't work and the simulation fails to kickstart
George Zogopoulos-Papaliakos
@Georacer
I took the last few days to migrate the documentation to a github page.
I got a bit jealous that everyone was using Sphinx and the rtd theme, so I decided to take the step too.
It was a bit of work to migrate from Markdown to reStructured
but I think it was worth it.
You can find the new documentation here: http://georacer.github.io/last_letter/index.html
For errors or questions, you can submit issues from the pages themselves.
