hey, just wondering .. can it be the SSDT-DevPack solution file is missing from the github repository?
Jeroen Janssen
@japj
ah, I was expecting a solution in the top folder, I thought that Merge solution was a left over from a previous addon you developed or something ;)
Jeroen Janssen
@japj
It seems I am hitting reference errors, partly because my git clone is on a different drive, partly because I don't have sqlserver installed on this machine (CTP3.2 does not install if you already have VS2015U1 installed).
some of the dac references could also be done from the SSDT Addon folder I think, i.e. C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 14.0\Common7\IDE\Extensions\Microsoft\SQLDB\DAC\130 instead of the SQLServer one
Seeing as the SSDT(BI) tools have multiversion support, that might be realistic to do? (not sure how multiversion SSIS support is going to look like, but it is expected in the feb preview)

Hey, sorry I was busy at the weekend! I have had to use the references form 2016 as otherwise it was breaking on anyones machine who had installed the ctp - I would love the dacfx to be in a nuget package to take these pains away!
Let me know if you need a hand setting it up, I can send you a zip with the dll's!
Jeroen Janssen
@japj
I am wondering if we could make (unofficial) nuget packages for the different assemblies, like MS is doing for the new VS2015 SDK, see also https://www.nuget.org/profiles/VisualStudioExtensibility
then you could just have a dependency on the right nuget package for each assembly and that would then also work on appveyor
for my bidshelper build experiment on appveyor I had to put the assemblies somewhere (in the current repository) to have them available in the build, making nuget packages of those will also help
there are a bunch of partial/unsupported nuget packages (with out of date stuff aswell)
having something slightly more consistent/maintained might be good
Ed Elliott
@GoEddie
It would be great to have them in nuget, they are updated pretty regularly though so would take a bit of commitment :)
ideally a package with the latest DacFx and the dacextensions project (strongly typed model)

I have a few questions about quick deploy. First, is the connection info I entered stored anywhere, second, how do I see and/or change the connection that's being used?

@ErikEJ great news! thanks very much

hey... anyone here?

@brandonwittwer
Hey @GoEddie . I'm enjoying your extension. Was thinking of a couple improvements that could be made. 1) a way to reset connection to a new machine/db without restarting VS. 2)a method to run the current tsqlt test (which I would then kybd shortcut) I know test runners exist, but they're so heavy. I just want to see a single test fire as quickly and easily as i quick deploy (ctrl+q, ctrl+d isnt that awkward :D)

@firecube
Hi, great extension! We have found a problem when creating a new scalar function... it is created in SQL Server as a blank table valued function like this:
create function [dbo].fn_MyNewFunction
RETURNS @t TABLE (stringValue VARCHAR(128))
as
begin
insert into @t values('ee')
return
end
Any ideas?
Brandon Wittwer
@brandonwittwer
it's supposed to immediately alter that object with the definition you provided
Ed Elliott
@GoEddie
Hey @brandonwittwer sorry not been in gitter for a while! Cool I am going to update it to 2017 and have a few bug fixes so will look at adding those in!
Hi @firecube, do you have an example of a tvf that causes it?
sravisravu
@sravisravu
trying to run ssdt dev pack for code coverage
but I don't see anything captured
has anyone run this tool for sql code cov erage
Ed Elliott
@GoEddie
are you running the queries against the same database as you are covering? Have you tried using SQLCover? I havenint converted the dev pack to use that yet
sravisravu
@sravisravu
yes I am running the queries against the same db as I am covering.
sravisravu
@sravisravu
I tried using sqlcover for coecoverage
but

You cannot call a method on a null-valued expression.

Is the DevPack compatible with VS 2017? I'm struggling to find any signs that it is installed in 2017.
David Smith
@flipdoubt
Hmm. That must be the case, as I see it in 2015 but not 2017. Any suggestions on what needs to be done to add it? Really, I'm just trying to get "quick deploy".
Gander7
@Gander7
@flipdoubt Can here to ask the same thing :P

@Gander7
@GoEddie any advice or guidance for anyone looking to integrate this pack into vs2017?
nvm, saw issue #17
Ed Elliott
@GoEddie
Hi, sorry I've been busy :) I'll start looking at 2017 support this week, I've had trouble upgrading my test adapter so so can't really say when it will be done but I am looking at it
Gander7
@Gander7
Appreciate the update :)
Ed Elliott
@GoEddie
ok @Gander7 @flipdoubt and anyone else who wants vs 2017 support - you can grab the vsix from: https://github.com/GoEddie/SSDT-DevPack/releases/tag/v2-beta - I will test it a bit more before pushing to the vs marketplace and there is an annoying bug I want to fix first as well
David Smith
@flipdoubt
@GoEddie can I turn on debug or logging with the DevPack in 2017? More often than not, clicking Quick Deploy does nothing. For example, Quick Deploy to Clipboard often leaves me with an empty clipboard.
