@leonardt
@lkuper perhaps a Latte room is better to keep the parallelaccelerator chat cleaner
Lindsey Kuper
@lkuper
aha, yeah, old CMake files was the problem.
hmm, this time LatteComm built fine
Lindsey Kuper
@lkuper
sudo apt-get install libmpich2-dev mpich2 hdf5-tools libhdf5-dev turns out to work
I also uninstalled openmpi-related things

@lkuper
Woohoo! Finally able to run mnist.jl.
hmm, 100000 iterations is going to take a long time :)
Lindsey Kuper
@lkuper
it is already testing at 97%, though

OK, I'll add something to the wiki docs tomorrow with instructions for Ubuntu
I'll also see if I can get it building on Travis

@merl-dev
wow...what is this?
Leonard (Lenny) Truong
@leonardt
hi @merl-dev , this is a DSL for deep neural networks. documentation is WIP but forthcoming. for now we had a paper accepted into PLDI '16. that details the system and I could provide a preprint draft if you'd like
Yaakov Borstein
@merl-dev
yes I would... I have been using Julia for 2 years now, have a number of production systems, and now looking to add some ML... this whole Julia/Intel set of packages looks really sweet, looking forward to seeing anything you have...and yes I'll report back on any issues
Yaakov Borstein
@merl-dev
ok, so progress on getting to this has ground to a halt due to the rather unclear path on all the intel library support required to get MKL on ubuntu and compiled into julia. If I need to spend a day running between all the intel dev sites and so on, plus the hundred links that say "No Intel ICC is not avaliable as open source"...... it's rather confusing.
The exact path needs to be specified:
  1. start fresh ubuntu...2 install icc (from where?) 3. install mkl (why not package both)... and so on...

pls see my comments in the ParallelAccelerator.jl stream

@merl-dev yes I do agree that the setup process is unclear, particularly as we've only had internal people testing. this is actually why we've softly released this as open source. i am opening a ticket to resolve these issues and will get back to you with a clear set of steps for getting Latte running on a fresh ubuntu installation. the icc/mkl dependencies are more an artifact that support for gcc/openblas hasn't been tested, i will make sure those are working and put the instructions which should make installation easier if users don't have access to icc/mkl

txs leonardt, we are going to look at a trial of the intel cluster dev product in an effort to determine just how far we can push this configuration in terms of performance. that way we can separate julia and the growing pains from the core technology intel is offering. looks kind of interesting.

@jangedoo
I see the chatroom is not active for a while and also the repository for Latte.
could you guys let me know what are your plans for the library?

@Ettrai
+1 on Sanjaya's question

Hi, has somebody tried to install Latte with Julio v5? I get a bunch of compatibility issues.
