The team released a new version of texdoc-online, version 0.4.0. It features improved handling of overwriting defaults and allows for bundling fonts and scripts to help protecting your privacy. See the CHANGELOG for a full list of release notes.

I like that you a) choose debian and b) texlive-full. With that, you're image is not far away from mine at https://github.com/dante-ev/docker-texlive/blob/188b8be4aad340b79fdf43ef3819b62f332d60fb/Dockerfile#L37. I wonder whether I should create pull requests based on my image? - Should we discuss each addition one-by-one? E.g., pkcheck could be a good addition, but support for pax (which requries Java) is not good b/c of size of the image

@koppor: Ben Frank and I are planning a TB article on templates, so I was thinking of mentioning our tools and some perspectives for the future. :)
We could discuss some points in here. :)

Sure. I was going to write-up something, too. Thus, joined forces sounds great!

I am also working on a template-generator https://github.com/latextemplates/generator-latex-template. The difference to https://gitlab.com/islandoftex/texplate seems to be that I a) provide a choice for each "minor" thing to include/exclude and b) try to offer a form .preamble, .example for each package (hyperref, csquotes, ...). See https://github.com/latextemplates/generator-latex-template/tree/lncs/generators/app/templates for the current lists of contents
Still have to finish the first "real" template generation. I am close in the context of LNCS.
Let's see, what our discussion reveals.
I am still struggling with lualatex vs. pdflatex. On the one hand, I want to provide the users to give the freedom of choice at each compilation, on the other hand, I want to have clean .tex files. - For the choice, I need much \ifluatex in the .tex files, which clutters them very much.

    ooh dreams
On a more serious note, we want to have a series of abstract layers that can talk to each other.

Hey! I am tryting to get luaotfload-tool running. However, it fails because "lualibs" cannot be found. 5 years ago, there was texlive-lualibs in debain; that seems to be integrated in texlive-luatex. Think, I do not need to install that package, because it is included in texlive

Hi! Thanks so much for setting up this community. I have found you via the documentation lookup site (the search seems better than ctan already). I use texlive without all of the source/manuals by default, so I've been looking for a simple website like yours to get the manuals that I need, quickly and without hassle. My only comment so far is that it took me a long time to find the website (texdoc.org)... maybe it needs some better SEO or discoverability? In both google and duckduckgo, searching for e.g. "latex documentation" doesn't seem to bring up your site very easily. Maybe asking for a sidebar link at https://www.latex-project.org/help/documentation/ would also be possible?

Ah, well, do you have coding experience in other languages?

Context: We have quite a number of issues we'd like to tackle. Among them of course our flagship project arara where there is a wide range of open tasks like bringing the documentation from TeX to markdown (to have the manual available at https://islandoftex.gitlab.io/arara/) which is more like a TeX and pandoc job. But arara has also very demanding technical aspects like the implementation of our Kotlin DSL (to allow rules like https://gitlab.com/islandoftex/arara/-/blob/dsl-development/rules/arara-rule-latexengines.kts). So there are a lot of options to joining the island on any level of coding expertise.

If you are up to a little challenge we would appreciate help on islandoftex/images/texdoc-online#2. texdoc-online is the software behind https://texdoc.org and it would be awesome to integrate some kind of rating of the suggestions. This would be its own little projects within texdoc-online as you could play around with the frontend and backend.

A smaller beginner-friendly task could be islandoftex/texplate#9, improving TeXplate, our โ€“ unfortunately not too well known โ€“ templating tool. This could be something where you could work on a rather small codebase but maybe gain some experience in the Kotlin/Java world.

So if you would say any of the open issues (https://gitlab.com/groups/islandoftex/-/issues) or the aforementioned tasks would be of interest to you, then we can add you as collaborator on the respective project ๐Ÿ™‚

And of course, if you tackle any of those tasks we would help you, review code, discuss details etc. Anything that helps onboarding ๐Ÿ™‚
If you have any other ideas/directions, feel free to simply share them. As Paulo Cereda wrote, we are here on the island to have fun ๐Ÿ™‚

@benfrank:matrix.org, Iโ€™ve got a fairly good understanding of Markdown, TeX and LaTeX. Language wise Iโ€™ve worked mainly in the usual languages (VB, Xamarin, Xcode, Swift etc)

The documentation sounds like something right up my alley. If anything else that is documentation oriented comes up then feel free to let me know. :)

I would be quite interested in working on Texdoc online as well.

Iโ€™ll also keep an eye on the various projects to see if thereโ€™s anything I can help with. :)

    Hope this helps :)

Oh, and for everyone coming here after Paulo's talk today: We missed to mention https://gitlab.com/islandoftex/archive which provides an archive of older (abandoned) TeX-related projects (hosted on SourceForge or other hosters where it is unclear whether old source code is well preserved). If there are any ideas what's missing, simply reach out to us ๐Ÿ™‚
