ok, now a word about IDEs (starts a flamewar). I know exactly jack squat about eclipse, so I can't help there. But I have used Netbeans for years. love it. I think it is simplier than Eclipse by far. sooo use whatever you like, but I'm partial to IntelliJ & Netbeans.

Yeah, I completed it along with a few others earlier. I actually don't use an IDE at all when I code. Just sublime text as my editor. Intellij is what I'd recommend though. You don't really need full on file io for that
I just used Scanner.
Though, if you're partial to it, feel free to discuss your own solution. Discussing solutions to problems and learning what is optimal, and why, from the different implementations is what I had in mind.

As far as introductions go, I'm Danny de Jong (IRL name). My username on reddit is Valkren. I'm currently studying programming, currently in my second year. I feel like I don't do enough coding outside my education, which I would like to change. That's why I'm here.
I'm using Netbeans at the moment, primarily. I have used the other ones that are popular here and there, but don't know enough about the features to really know which one is better. I just prefer Netbeans because it's the first one I used.
Also, my skype name is dannydjong. Feel free to add me so we can communicate more directly.

Check out Codingbat if you need any warmup, and if those seem too easy, try CodeEval.

ok, so I'm working on CodeEval Exercise 103, if anyone else wants to work on that cotemporally. I'll have my GitHub with the code posted shortly.
Here is my repo. nothing checked in yet. https://github.com/jjrobinson/CodeEval.com-Exercises.git
