    I had a ktor question. Not sure if this is the right channel as I cannot find a ktor channel.
    I have a ktor application in which I want to do some background processing after a request is completed. How do I go about the same ?

    You could start a new coroutine that runs right before the function returns

    Question, is this code somehow simplifiable? I'd like to flatten it and avoid using var.
    var highlightStrategy: HighlightStrategy<JSReturnStatement> =
              JavaScriptAlwaysHighlightStrategy

    if (state.isOnlyTopLevelReturns) {
       highlightStrategy = JavaScriptTopLevelHighlightStrategy
    }

    if (state.isSkipSimpleGetters) {
       highlightStrategy = JavaScriptSimpleGetterHighlightStrategy(highlightStrategy)
    }

    this.highlightStrategy = highlightStrategy

    Ok. The image linked at the URL below shows what I’ve got going on:

    Basically I’ve got a class with a property that is an external get. It’s backed by some JNI code (using the JVM here obviously). My JNI method is called just fine, there’s nothing wrong there. And when I use the property (named duration) from another class it returns it’s value just fine. But if I use the property from the class itself (ie: this.duration) it seems to just return the default value for the given type (Double in this case). I’ve got a val durationMillis: Long get() = (this.duration * 1000L).toLong() and basically this.duration in that context is always 0.

    @codymikol
    I’m not sure, hopefully someone can help you though
    Brian
    @briandilley
    I suspect it has something to do with the fact that it’s a val and Kotlin is trying to do some magic to cache it’s initial value

    hey guys I am new one, I learned a bit java but would it be better for me to start learning kotlin right now or improve my java knowledge ?
    matrixbot
    @matrixbot
    slovarik Go for Kotlin for sure. It fixes many issues Java had for years. Plus you can run it beyond JVM which is not true for Java. Not to mention it won't hurt you unlike Java.

    I see method for removal: "some-script.groovy".removeSuffix(".groovy") .... but equivalent method for appending... does it exist? I cannot find it.

    What is currently the most used testing framework for Kotlin? kotlintest vs spek or just using junit5 e.g. together with mockk?

    Is anyone around familiar with kotlinx-serialization? I am getting a weird error "java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: Star projections are not allowed" when trying to serialize a List<Map<String, Int>> to JSON. Running on ktor 1.2.5. I have tried registering a serializer explicitly with register((StringSerializer to IntSerializer).map.list)

    @mplain
    i have a situation: I work in a no-internet environment, on a java project, and I introduced a maven dependency on a kotlin project
    so now it doesn't compile, presumably because the out-of-the-box IDEA Kotlin compiler is v1.0.0
    and it cannot download a newer one, because no internet
    how do i update the compiler offline?
    like, get a file via email and put it where?
    and where i download it from

    quick question about JVM
    if I have a Jar file, which has some dependencies, how does it know my application (using this jar file) where needs to find these dependencies?, I mean, are repositories included inside the Jar?

    Hello to everyone
    I have an issue with Kotlin -> kapt -> mapstruct
    I have 2 data classes
    @Entity(name = "PLAN")
    @TypeDef(name = "pgsql_enum",
    typeClass = PostgreSQLEnumType::class)
    @KotlinBuilder

    data class Plan(
    @Id
    @GeneratedValue(generator = "UUID")
    @GenericGenerator(name = "UUID", strategy = "org.hibernate.id.UUIDGenerator")
    @JsonProperty("uuid")

      val uuid: UUID? = null

    ........
    )

    @Document(collection = "plan")
    @KotlinBuilder
    data class MongoPlan(

        val uuid: String? = null

    .................)
    and mapping instructions

    @Mapper
    interface MongoPlanMapper {

    @Mappings(Mapping(target = "uuid",
            qualifiedByName = ["uuidMapper"]))
    fun convert(plan: Plan): MongoPlan

    @Named("uuidMapper")
    fun uuidMapper(uuid: UUID): String =
            uuid.toString()

    }
    and I get
    Error: java:".

    Did anyone have such problems ?

    can I inspect the jar file and see a "dependencies" folder or something like that?
