Does anyone have the solutions to Tutorial 04?
@oisinmccay In addition, you can look at the solutions to older questions, see webpage for the links.
@dmitriz I wanted to ask what the structure of the exam at Christmas will be and wanted to ask what would be the best material to reference for studying? Would it be the tutorials or past exams?
@kearnemu The structure is the same as in the last years, see also information on the main webpage. The scope is within current tutorials material, while the past exams may reflect a slightly different syllabus from those years.
I wanted to ask a couple of questions regarding the 2016 exam paper. For question 2, I'm a bit confused on how to check if the vector spans, do I find the determinant of the matrix or reduce it to row echelon form ? For question 6, do I need to find the coefficients and write the Fourier series ? Also, is Fourier series in2 the exam ? Some students told me it is not and I'm a bit confused ?
The simplest way to check if vectors span Rn is to write them as columns in a matrix and compute the rank of the matrix. The vectors will span the total space precisely when the rank equals dimension n (the number of rows of the matrix).
@mostafan_gitlab Determinant can only be used for square matrices and its computation will likely be harder.
The Annual Exam will have 6 questions. Credit will be given for the best 5 questions. Tutorial sheets/assignments counting 10% and Final Exam 90%. Examination material is within the scope of the problem sheets.
