So can you guys help me out with the hardware aspect too. I have a few questions...I have this Wemos D1 mini board, I think this board receives 5v direct from usb if I connect a usb charger to it. With this 8 pixel neopixel stick, can I just connect it to 5v from wemos (which I think gets 5v from usb charger which outputs 1.2A.

so basically they will use 160mA if my calc is correct
so esp uses around 500mA and + 160mA for 8 pixels is under the limit of the charger, so I am safe to have this for testing/debuging that sketch of mine
i will connect that resistor (300-500 ohm to the data line) and that capacitor 1000uF 6,5v or more
I also have a 4x4 matrix
so even that one would be safe right

@marksev1, do not forget that 1 neopixel takes 60 mA at full white brightness. 20 mA is for one color only.\

@marksev1 In pulse lighting it is not too power consuming so you can use that. Bright colors are impressive. In my strip with 100 leds and 2A power I did set full whitness/brightness and saw different buggy whiteness to the end of strip due to critical voltage falling through strip. AC-DC power box with 6A 5V fixed this problem.

yeah need to buy something more hefty for longer strips
but I think for testing this could be still good
