and then what happened
Alex Krzos
@akrzos
Sep 21 2015 19:42
apparently altering the retention policy caused some weird issues
such as only showing data if I used a time window greater than 17h
so in grafana every graph started showing empty
when the window was too small
I wanted to get downsampling of data to occur

huh. yea graphite does a great job with this

looks like downsampling is different between 0.8 and 0.9

looks like everything is different in 0.8 and 0.9 :(

so for however hard graphite is supposed to get running i think it's far easier to get the downsampling going
but i haven't tried installing setting up graphite yet

yes, the problem is graphite craps out very quickly at any reasonable scale
@akrzos does this help? influxdb/influxdb#3052

I haven't tried the continuous queries yet since I was testing the retention policy and ran into the above weirdness in grafana
I ended up dropping the db and recreating it to get small time windows to display data again, nothing was obvious in the logs and the shell didn't show data either when i would shrink the window on a query
Also looking to get template-ed dashboard in grafana so I can put more host data in influx and view it quickly without re-doing graphs etc

I got C&U into influxdb :stuck_out_tongue:
trying to make a pretty graph now :D

Yay! I see how continuous queries can be used to roll data up, however awkward it might be to have CQ per series we need. Retention policies are set on each db so I figure I might have to roll data up from one db to another with a different retention policy. It is unclear to me if that is what is expected.

I will yeah
I literally just got it to import the data from a real VC
what's the quickest way to grafana

you did database -> influx?
or ruby -> db AND influx?

Mac :(
grafana on Mac is apparently too hard for them to support
Keenan Brock
@kbrock
Sep 21 2015 21:01
grafana - they want you to install via go
need to find time here
Alex Krzos
@akrzos
Sep 21 2015 21:01
you can use my grafana instance
add it as a datastore
or whatever they call it
