think the printing of the sql queries
there were a TON of duplicate queries
have some good ideas for speeding that bad baby up

@dmetzger57 we still on today?
makes me want to change logging for our appliance
@jrafanie is there a reason we have evm.log vs just logging to production.log?
Joe Rafaniello
@jrafanie
Dec 15 2015 19:23
I think @kbrock wants us to call him the query squasher
Keenan Brock
@kbrock
Dec 15 2015 19:23
lol
I want to find a way to call rack mini perf gem from the command line
and enhance that gem
Joe Rafaniello
@jrafanie

@jrafanie is there a reason we have evm.log vs just logging to production.log?

Yes, production.log is rails app only, evm.log is generally the background processes

Keenan Brock
@kbrock
Dec 15 2015 19:24
that way, it will be open for a much bigger audience
thanks
I noticed with seeds and stuff, they all go to evm.log
Joe Rafaniello
@jrafanie
Dec 15 2015 19:24
we used to have everything in the environment .log and it was a really messy
Keenan Brock
@kbrock
Dec 15 2015 19:24
omg - I want to get rid of perenial seeds so badly
jrafanie - you know how you clean that up?
less log statements
Joe Rafaniello
@jrafanie
Dec 15 2015 19:25
nope
rails wants to log each asset
Keenan Brock
@kbrock
Dec 15 2015 19:25
you know how you speed up the GC?
produce less garbage
Joe Rafaniello
@jrafanie
Dec 15 2015 19:26
i can't imagine how furious I'd be if I had to wade through useless "*.js" asset things interspersed with useful log lines
Keenan Brock
@kbrock
Dec 15 2015 19:26
jr - I used to remember we would invalidate our active record associations all the time in inventory_helper - you know where that stuff went?
Joe Rafaniello
@jrafanie
Dec 15 2015 19:26
doesn't sound familiar
Keenan Brock
@kbrock
Dec 15 2015 19:26
I don't see the asset stuff. think I turned that off locally
Joe Rafaniello
@jrafanie
Dec 15 2015 19:27
the only time you might want to have both combined is if you're doing UI performance stuff is really only you right now
Change the Rails.logger = $log locally if you want
or something like that
Keenan Brock
@kbrock
Dec 15 2015 19:30
eh. if i want combined, i'll have to step up my game and output to influxdb
Joe Rafaniello

@blomquisg Any word on ManageIQ/manageiq#5776 ?
Greg Blomquist
@blomquisg
Dec 15 2015 22:21
not yet ... lemme get with Nick Catling about it
@djberg96 nm, I'm gonna merge it ... Bronagh tested it, and it both worked and was better
Greg Blomquist
@blomquisg
Dec 15 2015 22:26
we can have nick look at it as a possible solution for what he's dealing with, but we have two separate data points that show this acting better than before
