So meant to post this Friday afternoon, but it got away from me a bit. Anyway, here is the before and after with the Pathname#to_s patch for both 5.8 and 5.9 builds:

How do the other workers look?

Some things to keep in mind:
  • The time period for the before v.s. after is roughly 0.5 days and 3 days respectively
  • The monitor poll is speed up to 1 second (from 5), and the monitor_workers poll is also at 1 second (from 15 seconds)

@dmetzger57 working on a script to automate that, since it is 27 workers we are talking about here...

@chrisarcand I question if that is relevant for us, since I think the idea is that not only the "code" is open source, but the application frontend and access is as well

maybe not

Because I think the idea behind it is that you have a frontend that is accessible to the public, they can see where things are slow, and then help contribute to the project for performance improvements
maybe if we had a public facing instance of MIQ, that might be helpful though, but I don't think we do, and we would need to set up some READ-ONLY permission accounts for that to be useful

I don't think we need it to public facing
or rather, I'd be surprised...skylight has customers with private installations, I think

they do, but again, for what I think they are trying to do is provide a open interface into metrics for a "running" application
Jason Frey
@Fryguy
Jan 22 2018 19:48
well, we have that
we have an always-on instance of our app running in our lab (run by @smitty-rh)
Nick LaMuro

but I think it is less useful if a random open source contributor can't get access to the application they are looking at performance data on
Jason Frey

fair...it depends what skylight is trying to do

they were pretty unclear in their page, but my guess is more for things like rubygems.org , and less for "thing we privately run behind a firewall, but the code is opensource"

Seems likely. Might as well ask!
