Yea it was from scratch, did some rough torque calculation based upon the weight of all the parts (doesn't use any gears outside of the servos which is why the legs are so close to the frame), and I used a bandsaw to cut the wood and aluminum
drill press for the holes
Once MC3 has a laser cutter in the fall we could use that

well done my friend. It was Interesting to see how you did it with solonoids
Solenoids. Was there a lag durning power saturation of the coil?
Or back feed when the coil Deenergized? did you use mov's and capacitors?
I guess diods work too but I'm not a fan personally.

Each leg only uses two servos and there's a sonar sensor on the front, and it was controlled by a BASIC program if I remember correctly

thinking about making a style library. I want to focus on the flex box rather than a traditional grid system. Here is a list of what I plan to add to it. Let me know if you think I should add anything to it

What should be in my style library

  • auto include normalize
  • colors/themes for backgrounds and text
  • gradients
  • alignment
  • margin, border, padding
  • shadows
  • buttons & links
  • hovers
  • lists & accordions
  • inputs/forms/progress bar
  • animations?
  • navs
  • modal
  • tooltips
  • code
  • tables

@rmaylie9560 I have AC units but there is no escaping humility to the point of eliminating breakouts unless I never leave the AC'd room. I like my freedom :p
@davidjcastner anything about media queries maybe?
That is the only thing I can think of that has had several recent questions on not included in your list.
David Castner
@davidjcastner
May 28 2016 14:48
already made a library for that so I will suggest using it along side of it

May 28 2016 15:15
@Lilyheart @davidjcastner you guys can probably answer this pretty easily given your experience and it may give you something to add into that list. I want a word wrap at the top of my page so I can use the other side of it for something else but I only want that to extend but so far so I'm assuming it needs to be in a <div> of its own but I've tried using <span>blah blah blah</span><span>blah blah blah</span> and it still winds up on the same line and doesn't wrap
David Castner
@davidjcastner
May 28 2016 15:16

@lantech19446 http://www.w3schools.com/cssref/css3_pr_word-wrap.asp

adding a width to a block that your text is in should cause it to break between words, but if you want it to be able to break in the middle of a word use:

.myClass { word-wrap: break-word; }
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
May 28 2016 15:21
they use a measurement I've never seen before what is width: 11em; ?
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
May 28 2016 15:22
em is a relative size. so if i said a font should be 1 em then it is exactly the size of the font of it’s parent element.
2em would be twice the size
David Castner
@davidjcastner
May 28 2016 15:23

@lantech19446 http://www.w3schools.com/cssref/css_units.asp

em Relative to the font-size of the element (2em means 2 times the size of the current font)

Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
May 28 2016 15:23
o ok that's kind of cool, sounds like it would be useful in mobile
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
May 28 2016 15:24
i mostly use px em and rem (em is relative to it’s parent element, rem is relative to the entire page)
David Castner
@davidjcastner
May 28 2016 15:25
@lantech19446 a typical way of defining font-sizes is to select a default font-size in px, and then use em in the rest of the styling, so if you change your initial font-size everything adjusts accordingly
another way is to use rem which @Lilyheart suggested
Jonathan Herman

I just tried the sharable link from dropbox no luck there either
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
May 28 2016 16:07
The shareable link is a link to a page, not the image itself.

May 28 2016 16:22
i left when the conversation devolved into the “proper way to teach asset management” which is a can of worms I had no interest in hearing as everyone has different beliefs on that.
dunno. i rarely use imgur. only to post minecraft pictures to post on reddit xD

May 28 2016 17:10
basic minecraft you are a person running around and can punch things or build tools to punch things.
This looks like a good basic intro to basic minecraft https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TyjFGmlu90M

Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
May 28 2016 17:14
@lantech19446 What they are teaching isn’t actually minecraft. They are using the minecraft world as a way to introduce programming. Minecraft is a video game where you run around as a person (traditionally known as Steve). First you punch a tree a few times and that gets you logs. Logs you can craft into other things. Which lets you punch more things which lets you build more things.
Thanks @rmaylie9560. For some reason I have this bizarre love of building tree farms. That is from an old world on http://www.nerd.nu (the pve world). They just started a new map I believe.
