Random question for the night... Is there a demand for a legit maker space in the suburbs? I feel like so many people are turned off to joining a maker workshop because they have to drive into Philly.
This may just be me projecting my own feelings about it all

What is it, like 30 students every 12 weeks?
For ~$18,000?
Oh I'm thinking makersquare
So what would quantify worthwhile demand, approx?

Hmm kinda like a nextfabish
Kind of deal.
demand would be quantified as enough membership to maintain the cost of keeping it open

....which is, approx?

pending on the size of the space and its infrastructure.
its hard to approximate.
without defining those details.
My question is really about if there are enough "makers" in the suburbs who would like access to something of the sort.
i guess figures would be based on something small scale.

Existing demand: very sparse, is my guess. Potential to produce demand if determined and resourceful, I don't see why not. It doesn't feel like an easy task to produce that demand, but I feel like I would say that about anywhere. That's the best I've got.

I had a feeling I may of been projecting my own feelings into the idea. It's a bit of a narrow niche.
large risk, small reward

If 3D printing were integrated into the work/play space, it could pick up business, I suspect.
Come to think of it, a lot of high schools probably already have 3-D printers.

😯 a tech play space. Dig it.
id love for it to be a non profit. A lot of this spawns from this "tech isolation" young adults/adults experience if they have no other outlet. Such as school or friends into electronics or other techy nerd stuff

It's concerning that every hobby shop I know of had shut down. That may be an indicator.
Lol, outside is overrated.

I do a lot of my studying and project work outside on the computer :)
But yeah, you can def find techie groups. Just gotta seek it out

I've thought the same @rmaylie9560 . I'd love a maker space out here but then I think of all the buts.
Might work in Cons or KoP is what I've thought.

Agreed, the idea seems to be subjective to population density. Makers per capita
But the bright side of it would be, montcode would have a cool place to meet. Although libraries are awesome. If only they had a machine shop
Well, that's something for the ol' library suggestion box I suppose😂

heh
@rmaylie9560 I almost wanna say judging by how quickly MontCode grew on Facebook & Meetup in such a SHORT time, there is a need for something out here.
Something near a turnpike/blue route for people in other suburbs as well that don't mind driving but don't like going into the "City" (dun dun duuuuuuuuuuuun sound effect).

It's one of those ideas that I keep in the back of my brain for when I become independently wealthy :p (and I also need a place to do my metalwork, so bonus).

It's definitely an expensive venture, but I feel like it would help people find their passion a little earlier in life. (Que tiny violin)🎶
everyone try's to get rich off this stuff and I don't think it should be about that.

Although it looks like just maintaining a shop is pretty costly

Jul 03 2016 13:40
Nope. Just like that is not my purpose with MontCode. I'd be willing to take sponsors that help us afford actual meeting space, but nothing for personal profit.

Absolutely, and that's why people are greatful. It's an awesome thing you're doing and that's why people gravitate towards things like this. It's a different vibe than a for profit organization.

Ugh, Move the computer from one side of the desk to the other I said. It'll be easy I said. An hour later and after redoing 40 cables and cable ties and and and I'm done.

I'm going to be without Internet for the next day or two so I won't be available to answer questions. Also @rmaylie9560 let me know if you start a maker space

Nicely ran wire does resemble a thing of art.
Google "messy server rooms" when you get a chance. You'd get a kick out of it

var happy = {
  happier: function(arg1) {
     var a = arg1;
};
happy.happier("happiest”);

// How can you make var a === "happiest" ???
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Jul 03 2016 23:16
missing a }
var happy = {
  happier: function(arg1) {
     var a = arg1;
     console.log(a);
   }
};

happy.happier("happiest");
does log happiest
but remember your scope. You declared a in the function, so it's only good there.
Do you want
var a;
var happy = {
  happier: function(arg1) {
     a = arg1;
     console.log(a);
   }
};
happy.happier("happiest");
console.log(a);
//output = happiest
