Hi, quick thought... Is it a good idea to get a computer science b.s degree online? Would it hold the same weight as a degree that was earned by physically attending the school? I know I personally learn better at home.

There are too many variables to say a flat yes or no it’s a good or bad idea. If you decide to go the b.s degree route, the more important thing is, is it a crap school.

Harvard Extension offers online comp sci degrees; that'll look better on a resume than a lot of others. Not to mention you're required to attend at least one course on campus (Harvard university) and graduate with the other Harvard kids. Plus it's open enrollment: you take 3 courses and have to maintain minimum 3.0 GPA with nothing worse than a B per course I think, and then you are eligible for admittance. If you go the online route, I'd take a look at that.

Honestly I don’t feel like they look at whether the school was online or in person. The only thing they see is does the school have a reputation of spitting out crappy and underwhelming programmers.

Plus David Malan is one of the premiere undergrad comp sci professors worldwide
I hate this fucking phone
Anyways: he teaches one of the intro courses for Harvard extension. Great class (CS50)
But really man, focus on what you like and what your ambitions are, then pick something that feels right for you. Time spent worrying about what employers will think about half a line on your resume in 4 years is time wasted.

Just bringing it here so it'll have more eyes. There is a request on Facebook to get some notes on their FreeCodeCamp project (tribute page) http://codepen.io/FVANE/full/EyvKPg/ Any feedback?

looks good quite honestly
maybe make it responsive, but that's a bit much to ask for starting off
oh and don't use style tag in html

I passed along the words.

Thanks so much for the feedback. First project in the FCC course model but I was looking into making it mobile responsive and I'll start omitting style tags. Another question I had was when I opened in mobile my headers aligned left. I hard coded align="center" but they still seem to align left on mobile. What am I doing wrong?
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Jul 08 2016 15:29
It's not so much that they align left, it's that they center on the viewport which is now smaller. Because they are in a different "container" than the image and are drawn before the image, they don't get the same width as everything else. Does that make sense?
Frank Van Emburgh
@FVANE
Jul 08 2016 15:32
Yes. So it's more about making the rest of the page mobile responsive limiting the space used by other elements.
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Jul 08 2016 15:38
There are a lot of aspects to mobile responsiveness. The knowledge that the JavaScript section brings will help. Not really directly but in helping to think about how the page is put together. I wouldn't worry too much about fixing the mobile responsive issues just yet. It's great that you see the issues and know what needs to be fixed

Would you suggest sticking with the course which is asking me to now set up a portfolio or move straight into the Javascript portion so I can come back to the portfolio and make it look nicer on my first iteration?
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Jul 08 2016 15:41
That would be my suggestion. Because honestly, after learning all the fun of JavaScript, you'll want to go back and edit it anyway!! Might as well do it all at once and keep moving forward.
@davidjcastner So, I found this today David :wink2: https://atom.io/packages/atomic-chrome

can anyone see anything wrong with this code?
var todoList = { todos: ['item1', 'item2', 'item3'], displayTodos: function() { console.log ('My todos:', this.todos); }, addTodo: function(todo){ this.todos.push(todo); this.displayTodos(); } };
David Castner
@davidjcastner
Jul 08 2016 17:15
it's working for me, are you using todoList before it's defined or in a different scope? Also are there any errors you are getting?
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Jul 08 2016 17:17
that's the entirety of the code but The error I get is expected ')' and got 'this' missing semicolon expected an identifier and instead saw ')' concerning console.log ('My Todos:', this.todos);
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Jul 08 2016 17:22
this is through plunker btw, I'm not sure why it would make a difference but just in case
David Castner
@davidjcastner
Jul 08 2016 17:27
hmm... I'm not seeing anything, it's working for me like this
var todoList = {
    todos: ['item1', 'item2', 'item3'],
    displayTodos: function() {
        console.log('My todos:', this.todos);
    },
    addTodo: function(todo) {
        this.todos.push(todo);
        this.displayTodos();
    }
};

todoList.addTodo('item4');
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Jul 08 2016 17:28
and that's correct and what I have also I'm not sure why plunker has such an issue with it. It also is acting like whatever is wrong is separating it into different scopes and is calling todos undefined.
David Castner
@davidjcastner

working on codepen too, try opening a new plunker and copying this into it

just did it works perfectly, not sure what the difference is.
I'll be back shortly though I need to go setup the children's movie and then I'll try to narrow it down

Jul 08 2016 17:57
The odd thing is @Lilyheart it's showing differences in everything it's like the entire thing got corrupted. I know they like plnkr for this class but I think I'll just use codepen

Some strange hidden/nonprinting character maybe. Like the whole CRLF vs LF fight
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Jul 08 2016 18:05
what's that all about?
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Jul 08 2016 18:06
windows ends lines with two nonprinting characters. CR and LF. Carriage Return and Linefeed. nix just uses LF. That's why when you open a text document using windows that you made in a nix machine with different lines with notepad in windows, everything is smashed onto one line. Notepad needs the carriage return. (Note: WordPad doesn't and will show the text correctly)

could be something weird like that I guess but it was working the first time I did this like I added the new function to the object and that's when it seemed to break but broke in a completely unrelated area
