I guess mostly what you think of iphone 7
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
Sep 08 2016 18:26

Phone: 2x graphics, 40%+ processor, +2 hours battery 6s-7, +1 hours 6splus-7plus, solid state home button, lightning cable supplies actual power to headphones, so active noise cancellation, etc, possible; 7plus 2x optical zoom, 10x digital; 7 gets 5x digital zoom, no optical. Improved flash x2 brighter and more responsive to light. 50% larger apperature, so better low light. 7plus gets foreground focus (background blur) ability, which seems to work much better than shevy's example (though it's a nice photo all the same), new wide gamut color display and photos (same as new TV tech, if you've seen it), all the phones have new finish, stereo speakers (2x sound, full dynamic range), quad core processor (2 core for high pref, 2 core for low perf (1/5 power of high perf), ip67 water/dust rating (1m/30min), 25% brighter display, 7mp front facing camera, editable Live Photos, 32-128-256 storage (same pricing), 6s iPhones get 32-128 boost (those are the only options).

Also iOS 10, with an App Store for the keyboard, and lots of other stuffs, including Siri API (underwhelming, imo).

Basically, they made the iPhone better. I think that people sometimes forget that “iPhone” is a single product, and that it gets better every year, at unbelievable rates. I feel like a lot of people think of each new iPhone as being a different product, but it’s just generational gaps. That said, I think they did a great job, and that it’s a great step forward leading up to the next iPhone, which I think will have major design changes that take these new superpowers to a whole new level

Most importantly, the Apple Watch Series 2 looks great, and I can’t wait to get one. It’s what I wanted the first time around, but can finally now get

I hope you're right because the iphone has been behind android for years now even graphically the whole things needs a kick in the ass and tim cook is starting to look like the wrong man to steer the ship. I'm surprised they didn't put the watch in the graveyard after how hard the first one flopped but hopefully they did right by it the 2nd time around
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
Sep 08 2016 18:38
flopped?
it’s the second best selling watch brand in the world, and by far the best selling smartwatch
The second gen is going to be a massive seller, no doubt

Sep 08 2016 18:40
dude their first one didn't even meet their expectations and had one of the highest return rates of any apple product thus far, I don't think I read a single article about it in the first six months including absolute apple fanboys that didn't say it was a horrible creation that didn't live up to the hype and they would not have bought it. Hopefully the 2nd one is what everyone wanted
Eric Phy

gps and waterproof to 50m, plus a $1250 white ceramic edition model, which is super sexy. 7x faster processor, 2x brighter display

Sep 08 2016 18:42
I gotta tell you it's been almost 8yrs since I bought anything apple the iphone stopped doing it for me and most of the people I knew who swore by apple for graphic design got rid of them now because they kept freezing under moderate load I really want to see Tim Cook turn it around
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
Sep 08 2016 18:43
people are extremely critical of these things; the fact is, the tech didn’t exist. people expect more than is possible sometimes. I knew it wasn’t a good product for my needs, and didn’t buy one because of it, despite anticipating and craving it for years. Those who bought it and weren’t satisfied had misguided expectations, and those expectations weren’t misguided by apple
the main thing i don’t like about apple that stands out:
They refuse to integrate great products, and choose to try to build their own versions.
examples: spotify becomes big, so they make apple music; tesla becomes big, so they start apple car; google maps works great, so they build apple maps (joke); calendar alts can’t be set to default (siri, etc); no Siri API for music/notes/to-do apps, and more;
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Sep 08 2016 18:50
that's kinda nuts
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
Sep 08 2016 18:50
in the past they usually didn’t integrate because the things they were replacing were garage, and jobs knew it. it’s where a lot of they products came from, in fact. but now there are great alternatives for certain things, and they keep trying to rebuild the wheel when awesome wheels are being made already
That said, I think that the apple tv is in some ways a distinctly superior product to it’s competitors, and the apple watch definitely is imo
the first apple watch was an iphone accessory though, and that was bs
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Sep 08 2016 18:52
yea I hear a lot of good things about apple tv but I don't know anyone who actually has it. I don't think I'd buy a watch from samsung or apple it just seems kinda lame to me
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
Sep 08 2016 18:52
oh and real quick another thing they re-built: ‘news’ app. It literally HAS TO remain a part of your home screen (swipe left), and as far as I can tell, it only has promoted news content (WSJ, NYT, etc) listed until you actually open the app
I’m a runner, and i travel alone a good bit, so it’s awesome for me
an iphone with a truly open siri api and changable default apps would be huge
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Sep 08 2016 18:55
I guess if you're running like mapmyrun or something but it's not like you're going to text while you're running and as far as I know can't plug your headphones into your watch apple fitness sucked though
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
Sep 08 2016 18:55
wireless headphones; you can save something like 100 or so songs into the watch standalone
maybe 1000, i forget
i should clarify: i’m a trail runner
so i’d love to see the elevation, speeds, map, heart rate, etc
like “oh i slow down at x location, and my heartrate goes up just prior, maybe if i approach it differently”, etc
anyways, apple is great but not perfect, and ios is a relatively closed platform. definitely doesn’t suite everyone, and i definitely don’t love everything about them, but they’re still the most exciting consumer tech company in the world by a long shot. tim cook is no steve jobs, but very few are, and frankly the apple employees are probably better off for it. The world is very different from the one that apple built it’s legacy during, and because of what the company did then, we have the world we have now
Eric Phy

Sep 08 2016 19:02
so yeah, i like the iphone 7 :D. I hope siri stops being a useless piece of shit (didn’t used to be, so we’ll see)

Sep 08 2016 19:04
the running stats sound kind of cool I would enjoy that that's what I liked so much about bodybugg. Personally I hope Ubuntu phone comes to America still it's going to give iphone and android a run for their money and both will have to strive to compete. Siri could definitely become a very cool piece of software if they continue to push the envelope with it The woman who voiced siri follows an x friend of mine on twitter lol
