I've taken most of the web development courses at mont co along with all of the courses necessary for a cert in software engineering. I'm hoping this help me build a portfolio so i can move out of my current software developer job and into web development.

for the exercises or for the projects?
You can use any program that you would like if it makes it easier and copy the code it when you are done. That's what I did since I prefer the text editor Atom

The exercises are relatively short and can be done on freeCodeCamp, but the same applies to them. If you have a setup that you prefer, us it and copy in the code.

popped in for a sec as I needed to get up for something xD Saw ya'll chattin' on my phone.. You can code challenges anywhere. You don't need to use CodePen. The code just needs to be publicly viewable (e.g. GitHub or the like). I code locally and use GitHub pages for publication. Although, I still tend to put stuff on CodePen as it's a nice portfolio site to show off when goin' to meet ups and the like. (okie, back off to bed, glass of milk in hand)
