The job hunt is all consuming for me still; I can’t wait to jump back into the development process, but I’ve found that I enjoy networking and developing new professional relationships, so yay for that. :D
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Nov 01 2016 18:53
you might be able to turn that into a career also, might be worth looking into jobs that will build on that.
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
Nov 01 2016 19:07
Udacity just decided to discontinue their senior web dev nanodegree program :O
Wow
@lantech19446 nah, I enjoy it as an extension of my career, and I’ve known for a long time that I’d require a very high level networking proficiency in order to achieve my long term goals, so I’m just glad that I’ve discovered I enjoy the process.
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Nov 01 2016 19:09
that's cool
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
Nov 01 2016 19:09
So it looks like no SWDND credential for me…that’s a bit of a shocker.
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Nov 01 2016 19:10
swdnd?
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 19:18
wth eric. sorry to hear that
swdnd = senior web dev nano degree
they should have let people in degree to finish tho...
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Nov 01 2016 19:20
ooo I misread the second sentence and thought it wasn't that because he had just said they were discontinuing it. How much have you paid into it?

ah ok I'm in Hatfield we're all kinda scattered in here nice to meet you I'm Jon
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 22:11
I have many things I'm interested in, just don't know how to proceed...Fractals, art&math, music&math
there are remarkable similarities between fractal design, curves, sound...it's all math related. How do I code some of this stuff?!
I've never coded before and seem to think algorithms have something to do with it.
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Nov 01 2016 22:14
you're looking at things that are far more advanced than I am but we have some amazing developers in here who may be able to contribute, they're a little busier with school work etc right now but @SimplyPhy and @davidjcastner may be able to point you in the right direction. I know @Lilyheart just said the other day she hasn't really done much with fractals
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 22:14
I'm Kathy, by the way.

Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 22:16
I need to get over the bug or whatever it is. It's affecting my sleep, and affecting my sleep affects my ears and head.
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Nov 01 2016 22:16
what are you doing for it?
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 22:16
'ello Scott. Welcome back (I wanna say... memory is blarg today)
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 22:18
So I went to Rosemont last week and met up with the fellows at BSD Code academy, met with Mike and JP. That's how I got introduced to CSS & CodePen.
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Nov 01 2016 22:20
what is BSD code academy?
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 22:20
looks like coding, robotics and design on the Main Line.
So outside of Montgomery County (Mont Co... MontCode xD ) so something I'm not familiar with :p
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 22:20
Whoever cares to check out my artwork I have 3 sites listed on Codepen, I would love it if you guys would check it out. I'd like to figure out a way to code similar geometric designs.
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 22:21
It's gonna be a lot of math. Did you see the links Mike posted on your Facebook post?
I heard Khan Academy has some good math courses.
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 22:22
No, not yet, I have to look at them.
Apparently there is an awesome fractal app on the iPhone called Frax. But I have Android.
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 22:25
We have a few iPhone users in the group that might be able to check it out for you but I don't know if any are on right now.
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 22:26
that's cool.
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 22:26
I can see if I can coerce my roommate into trying it.

@KR62
Nov 01 2016 22:27
Has anyone ever coded a kaleidoscope program? the one on Sumopaint is superb, you can manipulate the center point and all of the parameters.
Sumopaint is equivalent to Photoshop, only it's online and free.
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Nov 01 2016 22:28
I couldn't even draw it let alone program it lol
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
Nov 01 2016 22:28
ha I forgot about sumopaint xD
hey @KR62 and @TedTyree_twitter
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 22:29
No, but I was wondering if you could use paper.js and do something on a webpage. found this link
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
Nov 01 2016 22:29
I’m in the middle of something, but ill give a peak at everything soon
@KR62 I might explore fractals to help build crystal growth functions on a future project :fire:
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 22:31
oh that sounds interesting Eric
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 22:31
truth :grin:

Nov 01 2016 22:32
anyways, i’ll be back in a bit :wave:
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 22:32
good luck on your secret project :clap:
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 22:32
check these guys out, Roger and Michael, their work is the epitome of what I would like to do...fractals in motion to music. Especially covering the wall of a home!
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 22:33
GitHub Game Contest in case anyone was interested.
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
Nov 01 2016 22:33
I lied, i’m still here for a moment. @Lilyheart are you going to the code night tomorrow?
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 22:34
what one is tomorrow? :O
conshy tomorrow?
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
Nov 01 2016 22:34
yup :D
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 22:34
Jim Oliver does something called Harmonies of Light, especially cool.
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 22:34
I thought that was Thursday :O
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
Nov 01 2016 22:34
hmm..
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 22:34
Thursday at 6:00 PM
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
Nov 01 2016 22:34
oh yeah, ha. So…are you going to the coding night thursday?
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 22:35
Unless I get any sicker, I plan on it.
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
Nov 01 2016 22:35
I hope you feel better :worried:
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 22:35
Matt Hassell will be there too. I think you met up at a meetup. Was/Is learning python and some other stuff. Not web devy.
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Nov 01 2016 22:36
python is kinda cool, pretty powerful if you're good at it
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 22:36
@davidjcastner is the ruler of python if you have questions and such
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Nov 01 2016 22:38
nice
I tried to do some of it before and enjoyed it until none of it would carry over to my phone because you couldn't use python3 on android and python2.1 I believe it was had never been ported
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 22:40
xD Interesting note... I save my school work in dropbox. The android dropbox editor will let me edit .java files with zero issues. Great for adding those comments when out and about for things like "OMG I KNOW HOW TO FIX THAT PROBLEM" :laughing:
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Nov 01 2016 22:40
lol
Lily you might be the only person to figure that out
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 22:41
LULZ
oh... and the commented idea didn't work xD had to ask the teacher today.
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Nov 01 2016 22:42
lol
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
Nov 01 2016 22:47
okay I’m back. so yeah I’m still coming to grips with Udacity’s decision...
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 22:48
What the hell is the story with that? Didn't you pay for it?
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
Nov 01 2016 22:49
The courses are still available for free at least, and they’re going to refund me the last two months tuition, so it’s really not that bad I guess. I already deviated from their curriculum by delving into React, so my progression from this point forward should be pretty smooth regardless
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 22:49
Interesting. Well that's something at least.
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
Nov 01 2016 22:49
Actually, I got the first month for free thanks to my github student package, and they’re going to pay me back the last two months…so it should be free :D
The Harmonies of Light is neat @KR62 , it reminds me of the musical performances described in The Seventh Tower book series by Garth Nix
a bit less dramatic in real life, but still a great sound
I love the pendulum wave effect, is there a way to code that?
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
Nov 01 2016 22:54
@KR62 I recommend using this course at Khan Academy to introduce yourself to the power of programming to explore creative disciplines
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 22:55
ok, thanks very much Eric for the suggestion.
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 22:55
"code that" is a very generic term. Code a website? Code a windows program? "Coding" is a huge disciple with many nooks and crannies.
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 22:55
thanks for checking out Jim Oliver's stuff, I love it.
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
Nov 01 2016 22:55
yeah that’s easy, especially if it’s just along a single axis. You’ll have to familarize yourself with fundamental programming principles prior to being able to meaningfully reproduce that sort of visualization
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 22:57
Yea, that's the problem with me. Since I don't have the proper background or training I'm kind of lost, just have lots of things I love.
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
Nov 01 2016 22:57
start with khan academy, and go through their intro to js course, which is the pre-requisite to the one I shared above
then we can talk more about bringing something to life
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 22:57
What eric said.
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 22:58
Awesome, that's what I needed, a plan of action! Thank you.
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 22:59
Also since fractals is your bag, I say also look at doing as much khan academy math as you can as that will help incredibly in fractals.
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 23:00
thanks Lily.
Eric, what kinds of things are your specialty? Instruction, gaming, creative stuff...?
what's JS, Java Script?
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 23:03
Yup! you got it.
The part that makes websites fun (oversimplification, but still...)
If I were to remake that pendulum wave in whatever form I wanted to, it would have a javascript base (using paper.js)
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 23:06
Ok, so I guess this is over for tonight? It goes til 7?
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 23:06
chat party never stops truthfully. It's a daily thing. Just Tuesday night is reserved for coding for those who need a set time on the calendar to work.
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Nov 01 2016 23:07
@KR62 I basically live here because I work on computers for a living
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 23:07
This was done with paper.js
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 23:07
Oh, that sounds good. So I can log in anytime if I have more questions.
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 23:07
yupyup!
I really need to get the sound effects working on that dots page.
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 23:09
See, I think sound can be linked to linear shape, such as lines or something, brown and black would be long deep sounds and red, orange and yellow shorter, higher sounds. Make a song/visual display of the elements together.
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Nov 01 2016 23:09
@KR62 NPR had someone on recently who actually hears in colors
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 23:10
synesthesia is what that's called
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
Nov 01 2016 23:10
@KR62 there are many ways I can answer that. I’m most interested in leveraging psychological models in the development of human engagement platforms. I guess more plainly, my specializations are javascript and sass; but i’m more engrossed by meaningful, transformative work than the tools with which I use to accomplish it.
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 23:10
that circles page is a part clone of http://patatap.com/
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
Nov 01 2016 23:10
that’s how i see myself anyways :sheep:
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 23:10
heh
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 23:11
Wow Eric, that's a complex area of study. Good for you! I am all about spirituality and transformation.
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
Nov 01 2016 23:13
@Lilyheart here turned her home into an autobot [or deceptacon…] :D
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Nov 01 2016 23:13
what's your favorite spiritual pursuit?
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 23:13
Anybody study Knot theory? I'm also into Turks Head knots and would love to see them done in animation. How about KnotPlot?
As for spirituality I love receiving Reiki treatments, Holy Fire Reiki is very good and it works for me. I'm also into incredible gifts received from loved ones who have passed over into the spiritual world. Some people even channel deceased people, like Esther Hicks.
She channels the spirit of Abraham.
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart

@SimplyPhy
Nov 01 2016 23:16
haha yes ma'am
alrighty hitting the road; chat soon~~
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 23:17
Talk to you soon (and maybe see you soon).
Haven't seen ya in awhile.
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Nov 01 2016 23:18
night eric, good luck on the job search
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 23:18
Does any of that spiritual stuff ring a bell with you Jon? Are you familiar with Reiki energy healing?
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 23:19
That's all a past life for me (not literally, just previous decades). Recovering Reiki Master xD
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 23:19
Wow, Lily, what a small world.
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 23:20
I think our paths have crossed before but it's been many years. I used to run the show circuit but I don't talk much about it.
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Nov 01 2016 23:21
my sister is actually a reiki master among other things, I do a lot of naturopathy and I'm a practicing Hindu
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 23:22
Lily, what do you mean by show circuit? the spirituality seminars and such?
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 23:23
Fairs and such
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 23:24
Yes, Jon, I am amazed that so many diseases and ailments stem from early childhood and emotional blockages.
Trauma to the soul!
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Nov 01 2016 23:25
@KR62 you said you're into knot theory?
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 23:27
Anyway, on the topic of coding, I think I'm gonna take some courses at http://trydesignlab.com/
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Nov 01 2016 23:27
in addition to odin?
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 23:27
yea, knots are fascinating. I don't do any programming of them but when I look up the images I see amazing things.
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 23:27
yeah. But it'll prob have to wait for summer as I doubt any classes will fall nicely into my winter break.
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Nov 01 2016 23:28
o ok
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 23:28
How is your odin work going? Make it through # 1 yet (whatever it was called)
I make Turks Head knots out of 3/8" rope, square shape and star shaped, they're good for using as trivets for hot pots and casserole dishes.
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Nov 01 2016 23:33
@Lilyheart I'm just starting web 101 so lesson 2
@KR62 that's cool, I've always wanted to learn shibari
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 23:34
ooooh, I better get crackin' on odin stuff then xD
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Nov 01 2016 23:35
yep yep
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 23:35
is it possible to upload a photo here or is it just text?
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Nov 01 2016 23:36
the shibari?
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 23:36
I wanted to show you a pic of one of the rope knots I made.
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 23:36

KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 23:37
they're on my FB page under photos.
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 23:37
I'll grab one

That's really cool, you'd have no problem picking up shibari

Nov 01 2016 23:39
yes, you got it, Lily. can you grab one of the larger ones made out of brown rope?
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Nov 01 2016 23:39
is that a monkey's fist?
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 23:40
shibari covers a few... aspects. Here is a good general idea imo http://www.artofcontemporaryshibari.com/?page_id=29
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 23:40
no, more complex than that. Monkey's fist is just a box.

Nov 01 2016 23:41
these are very cool, how do you join the ropes?
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 23:41
I posted a link that is a good introduction to it.
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 23:42
yes, those 2 are the ones I wanted you to see. They are fun to make. Called Turks Head knots.
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 23:43
would be interesting to figure out the math behind them so they can be turned into an algorithm that can be used in something like paper.js
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 23:43
Just like the soul, the spirit.....infinite loops, don't know where they start, don't know where they end. Life, like energy is never ending.
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 23:43
But not now... I already have two math classes goin'
:laughing: :cry:
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 23:44
Thank you very much Lily and Jon for this time, much appreciated.
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Nov 01 2016 23:44
np, you'll have to let me know what you think of shibari too.
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 23:45
Oh yea, I looked it up real quick, now you're talking about tying people up!!
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Nov 01 2016 23:45
I don't mind a little non-coding chat in MontCode chat, but just remember if something gets too involved or you don't want it public, there is private chat.
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 23:45
Ha, Ha!
It's the art of tying people up xD Get it straight!
KR62
@KR62
Nov 01 2016 23:46
Yep, I'm done, goodnight.
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Nov 01 2016 23:46
I just think it's gorgeous some of them take hours upon hours to do and years to learn there's guys out there who have tied someone up and then made a tree out of the rope

Look up Turks Head knots. They're fun and easy. Some of them have multiple layouts, such as flat, around a sphere like a ball and also like a ring, like a napkin holder.

I'm all coding Java right now and polymorphism is a big Java thing. That comment I said I made about fixing an issue was something to do with polymorphism.

Lily, you can wrap wooden beads in knots with a leather strand/lace, cool stuff.
I keep looking up Meetups for Turks Head knots but don't see any.
