Dec 21 2016 00:11
I know the feeling, Johanna works overnight now and her pain level has been so high I've been driving her to work and back
god I did something weird, there are places where I'm basically being forced to use inline styles because somehow something else is more specific even though it shows nothing being applied other than the reset\
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Dec 21 2016 00:14
There are other ways around that but it really is situation specific. If you can give me examples (or push the code) we can figure it out.
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Dec 21 2016 00:16
ok give me a sec to finish one thing and then I'll push it

Dec 21 2016 00:21
ok if you still have the repo open it should be updated now. You'll see towards the bottom of the html where the buttons under the search bar are I did inline styles for padding because it wasn't taking hold from my class even though everything else did so then I tried using margins to space the buttons out a bit from css and that won't take either.

Hi @Lilyheart , @roiegat_twitter ... I just got back here (work - sorry!) ... You'll be in a fairly large room, so you could definitely do a few demo hovers a few feet off the ground indoors. Certainly the car park would be a possibility, as the back one has a grassy edging you could fly over ...
FYI, I'm just off to the library! Would you like me to enquire about indoor droning, or would you prefer to ask for forgiveness rather than permission? :)
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Dec 21 2016 00:26
I'm more a permission type of person xD But you know the library better than I. Sounds like the parking lot works fine though. lol

@lantech19446

input.button1 {
  padding: 8px;
}

Is more specific than the browser code that is overwriting the padding. Let me know if you want me to do a thorough line by line code review.

Dec 21 2016 00:29
ok. Could be cold, though! I'll be back online there in a little while
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Dec 21 2016 00:29
if you can tell me what line is overwriting I think I can figure it out from there but the reset is making reading the dev tools much more difficult
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Dec 21 2016 00:38
It could be a few different things @lantech19446 since I don't know what you've tried or what you are intending with some of the css. The .button1 .button2 part i don't think is doing what you think it should. Seperate them with a comma. Here is the page I have bookmarked when I need to figure out some selector stuff.
Just a space between class names means something else.

Dec 21 2016 00:41
oi ok, gonna bookmark that page. The suggestion you made worked now i just have to play around with centering everything a little more precisely. The instructions say don't be a perfectionist but for some reason I am. I'm pretty happy with it for a first project though
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Dec 21 2016 00:43
It's AWESOME first project code. xD The don't be a perfectionist is why I didn't give line by line feedback on the code but you know I'm willing to.

yea and i really appreciate it, I'm actually greatful that you told me about TOP it fits my learning style a bit better, I just hope it continues through ruby and rails

apple thing
Mike
@dcpking
Dec 21 2016 01:24
Sounds like a good idea, now that most people are getting HTML and CSS mastered
Personally, I way prefer learning with a goal in sight ... I seem to remember things much better when there's a reason for trying to learn them
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Dec 21 2016 01:26
yar. i can see it going a few ways. A small group (or just me and roommate) build the hardware portion. Then I larger group gets involved on the software side. But I dunno.
Mike
@dcpking
Dec 21 2016 01:27
If you're putting yourself up as the hardware guru then I'd suspect that you'l end up as the one writing the drivers in assembler too! :)
What sort of a thing were you thinking of?
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Dec 21 2016 01:29
HA guru. No. But I wanna learn. Someday... hahahahahahahaha /crazy
Mike
@dcpking
Dec 21 2016 01:30
Don't put yourself down! You're the one automating the world one room at a time!
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Dec 21 2016 01:30
existing hardware tho! not my own design.
winter maybe i'll install sensor nodes I will have to make.. but even that is just off a pattern found online.
Mike
@dcpking
Dec 21 2016 01:31
Hey! Do you remember the map in Harry Potter that tracked everyone? How about a couple of devices in each room and a display showing people.
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Dec 21 2016 01:32
pirs are a pain. and specific sensors require the user to carry an identifier (with current market tech, there is some other stuff in the pipe that can guess people by IR stuff tho).
Mike
@dcpking
Dec 21 2016 01:32
Then you could do the hardware and little reporting bits, and the others concentrate on the displays, and then trying to track people from room to room ...
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Dec 21 2016 01:32
I saw one vid where a dude sewed bluetooth things into everyone slippers so that when they walk into the living room the lights and tv would turn on.
and marauders map.
even tho I ain't seen all the movies.

Dec 21 2016 01:33
could always dust the house with rfid sand
Mike
@dcpking
Dec 21 2016 01:33
I don't think you'd need that - just find out who someone is to start with. Then if someone goes to a door in room 1 and a human emerges from the same door in room two then it's the same person
"rfid sand" LOL!!!!
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Dec 21 2016 01:34
yeah, but my roommate doesn't even keep his cell phone on when he should... much less any other tech.
but if you are just going by movement, what if TWO PEOPLE ENTER!!! ONLY ONE CAN LEAVE!
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Dec 21 2016 01:34
you totally need the sensors from better off ted then
Mike
@dcpking
Dec 21 2016 01:35
But if you know that there's onlyy you and him, identifying your icon as "you" automagically makes the other one "him"
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Dec 21 2016 01:35
So.. um... I may have drank a Mike's hard mango punch on an empty stomach cuz there was no food and the semester is over and I never drink and it's about to go off.
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Dec 21 2016 01:35
but what if someone breaks into the house, it would be ashame if my automated taser hit the wrong person Mike
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Dec 21 2016 01:35
So I maybe be... LITERALLY punch drunk.
