<textarea> should probably have row and col set. If you want to read more, here is a stackoverflow post with some points of view. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3896537/should-i-size-a-textarea-with-css-width-height-or-html-cols-rows-attributes
Gonna look at the span thing now. Overall the code looks good!

@Luc1100 I see what you are doin' to handle the fixed header. That's a pretty interesting way to handle the fixed header anchor issue with the circles. Are you okay with the circles being there? or would you rather have a fix without the circles?
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
May 15 2017 00:39
@Luc1100 Here is a version without the circles. Edit: Changes are commented. Just search for the "LILY"'s again. 'http://codepen.io/lilyheart/pen/XRYKaP?editors=1100

@davidjcastner I might just be tired from the pain meds... but I'm thinkin' the home is bein' weird on this cuz the header is getting shoved too high? 'http://codepen.io/lilyheart/full/xdzOMo/?

wait wha.. What seems to be the issue?
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
May 15 2017 01:43
click like about in the header, then click home again.

I think

div:target {
  padding-top: 75px;
  margin-top: -75px;
}

is shoving the nav bar too high

actually, I'm sure it is... >.> I should just wait to code when I'm functional xD

@davidjcastner
May 15 2017 01:45
Huh yea that's probably it, easier to see with chrome debugger in debug view
Um I don't recommend using position fixed, it tends to cause lots of issues. It's better to use absolute
oh i know
make the home go to the link "/"
it's the anchors
hold on
bam!
you need to make the home link go to an id at the top of the page
you can either attach an id to the body element (using javascript because codepen is weird like that) or wrap all other elements
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
May 15 2017 01:54
Here is the original. He had a brilliant idea of fixing the link issue by makin’ the cirlcles, but I was tryin’ to figure out a js free way to solve it (it being without the circles the anchor tags, when clicked, end up under the fixed nav. 'http://codepen.io/Luc1100/pen/VbxBqa

@Luc1100, only additional comment I have with your web page is that those 4 buttons at the top are not responsive-friendly in terms of how the CSS is done

Hey @davidjcastner, going through what you sent last night: the camera responsiveness using the mouse I think is a little too strong, at least for my taste. I move my mouse a little bit, and the camera changes rapidly. In terms of movement, the player movement is quite good - the responsiveness of me attempting to move the player I think is too slow, meaning it takes a bit for the player to respond to the direction I want them to go. I'm at work atm, so I don't have a controller with me to test it, but I have a USB controller I can test with tonight, and from the chat, it sounds like you'll have an updated version by then to play around with.
David Castner
@davidjcastner
May 15 2017 13:32
@G7470 cool thanks for the feedback, all testing and feedback greatly appreciated! Regarding the player being slow to respond, it's going to be a physics based platformer (so you have to accelerate towards things), but perhaps I can increase the acceleration and increase the friction which might make it more snappy

Ah, alrighty, that would then make sense based on my experience regarding player movement. I saw that this is Unity-based, which is quite neat considering I dabbed in Unity for a bit before myself. I like the engine personally.

@davidjcastner The turning is very soft. I'm challenged in trying to do any kind of precise footwork. It takes quite a few steps to get her to turn and face where I want her to.

May 15 2017 18:00
what about the camera?
Does it seem like it follows the character smoothly
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
May 15 2017 18:05
The camera does follow smoothly... And there are definitely games out there that handle cameras like that... but I expect if the cursor is centered on the character, the camera is behind. But, the camera fixes itself to be behind the char regardless of the mouse position and I find that weird. I drive with the camera as I want to see where I'm going and that means I have to keep pushing the mouse further and further over. But, that's a style choice and you are not alone.
David Castner
@davidjcastner
May 15 2017 18:08
Yea, I'm not sure how to get around the mouse part, on a controller it's fine because the joystick stays in the same spot. The camera rotates towards the player's velocity (proportionally too), do you think it would be better to override that when given input? Example the camera doesn't rotate with velocity when moving the mouse
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
May 15 2017 18:17
I wish I had a controller to test it :/ May have to handle mouse and joystick a bit differently.
David Castner
@davidjcastner
May 15 2017 18:18
yep that's what I'm thinking, I was attempting to keep the different control systems as similar as possible, but I'll see
Going to finish this building generator before going back to movement

also can you think of a game with good mouse based camera movement, I know world of warcraft had good stuff, but I can't remember the details behind it
does minecraft have good camera settings?
like not having to pick up the mouse
Lilyheart @Lilyheart boots up minecraft and skyrim PC to check.

and moving around wil be so much more fun with special effects, sounds, etc... but it's good that it's already fun (it means I'm on the right track)
time for a lunch break though, I've been programming since 7am
Lily Romano

May 15 2017 18:25
I'm okay with the minecraft camera... but I don't think it will work for what you want. It's an immediate response and only the mouse moves the camera. wasd only moves the char. turning the mouse instantly changes the direction the char moves. Now the char animation does do a more gradual shift, but the movement is immediate. Not that I would complain if it was like minecraft xD But i don't think that's what you are going for.
xD I did run around in 3rd person mode (and hoped there were no creepers outside my mountain home.
skyrim is nearly identical to that.
Is there any game I can load up and test that has the feel you are going for? Bioshock? Mass Effect? Tomb Raider? Half-Life? Witcher?
David Castner
@davidjcastner
May 15 2017 18:30
lol i based the movement off an old PS2 game I like, and I can't find anything that's really that similar. Sly Cooper 2, I'm using an emulator to play it
And I've never played those games you just listed so I'm not sure
