@ccziriak

G7470
@G7470
Sep 05 2017 21:36 UTC
svg, nice! That might be right up my alley since I'm quite familiar with working with xml (through xslt). What does SVG give you?
ccz
@ccziriak
Sep 05 2017 21:37 UTC
SVG - a lot less resource intensive than using png or jpg, easy to make responsive and not lose clarity, and you can style inline SVG with CSS
and animation - but I haven't worked with that much yet
G7470
@G7470
Sep 05 2017 21:38 UTC
@NotTheDBA nice, MVC! I went through a MVC course recently for work. I forget the company that ran it though. There's certainly a lot you can do with it if you have medium-sized applications. I like that you are able to keep the core logic and specific page logic separate from each other.

@shruthi2005 did you used to work at cvs?
Randy R.
@NotTheDBA
Sep 05 2017 21:39 UTC
@G7470 - Yeah - it's a big ask for the jobs I'm looking for, and a serious gap for me b/c I did a lot off middle-teir/back end database before.
shruthi2005
@shruthi2005

@lantech19446 no i never worked with cvs

@G7470
Sep 05 2017 21:40 UTC

ccz

G7470
@G7470
Sep 05 2017 21:42 UTC
@NotTheDBA Ahhh. It is a different mindset than doing back end database, but I think that once you start connecting the front-end knowledge, you'll see how well they can blend. Knowing both is a huge plus.
I like the username by the way haha

So, when working with branches... I have the a master, and two conception branches, branch 1 and branch 2... Some new code added to branch 1, then switching to branch 2... branch 2 now needs to reference code from branch 1. Is best practice to merge branch 1 changes back to master, then pull down to branch 2, or pull changes directly from branch 1 to 2?
grr typos - two conceptual branches

From my experience, if branch 1 has been tested successfully, it should be merged with the master and pull those changes down to branch 2. Now, this is assuming that the master isn't the production branch. If it is, and branch 1 is not supposed to go into production yet, I would suggest cloning the master branch into a "test" or "UAT" branch, and do the merges/pull downs from there.
That way, the integrity of the branches are fully kept, and you're not questioning if branch 1 or branch 2 are "accurate".

@G7470 thanks, that makes sense. Since it's basically a practice project for me, I ended up merging 1 in to master first, but creating a "test" branch from master sounds like a good approach in general. (I spent the last few years using TFS in a single-developer environment, so branching is not my strong suit).
Gonna call it a night. Gonna try to make it back next time.

Ttyl @NotTheDBA!
And you're welcome. I've used both git and tfs
