    em is a relative size. so if i said a font should be 1 em then it is exactly the size of the font of it’s parent element.
    2em would be twice the size

    em Relative to the font-size of the element (2em means 2 times the size of the current font)

    o ok that's kind of cool, sounds like it would be useful in mobile
    Lily Romano
    @Lilyheart
    i mostly use px em and rem (em is relative to it’s parent element, rem is relative to the entire page)
    David Castner
    @davidjcastner
    @lantech19446 a typical way of defining font-sizes is to select a default font-size in px, and then use em in the rest of the styling, so if you change your initial font-size everything adjusts accordingly
    another way is to use rem which @Lilyheart suggested

    nice, sounds like something to play around with. Was just talking with a guy who does managed services lots of wordpress etc who's interested in bringing me on once I get my certs

    another question, what's the easiest way to host a picture you want to use on a site, like i'm beginning to mess around with the portfolio page and can't figure out how to get my picture somewhere I can link too
    Lily Romano
    @Lilyheart
    Do you use dropbox by chance?
    Jonathan Herman
    @lantech19446
    pretty sure I still have one
    Lily Romano
    @Lilyheart
    Dropbox can have public folders. That is where I organize my online assets for random things.

    @lantech19446
    I tried doing the sharable link from google drive but no go let me give this a shot
    Lily Romano
    @Lilyheart
    I’ve not tried google. I’ve been meaning to try codepen + github hosted images.
    Jonathan Herman
    @lantech19446
    I just tried the sharable link from dropbox no luck there either
    Lily Romano
    @Lilyheart
    The shareable link is a link to a page, not the image itself.
    Jonathan Herman
    @lantech19446
    ok got it now, forgot about copy link location
    Lily Romano
    @Lilyheart
    Yay! You beat me to it xD I had to move over to the PC to look it up.
    Jonathan Herman
    @lantech19446
    yea it's been forever since I used it lol
    apparently we have it in linux too though
    Lily Romano
    @Lilyheart
    copy image location?
    Jonathan Herman
    @lantech19446
    yep at least in firefox
    David Castner
    @davidjcastner
    You can create a git repo and host images off there
    let me know if you want to know how to host images off a repo
    There is also imgur
    Lily Romano
    @Lilyheart
    Can’t link imgur in codepen
    David Castner
    @davidjcastner
    ah really?
    Lily Romano
    @Lilyheart
    unless they changed things. was a big discussion on fcc to see if that should be explained somewhere.
    David Castner
    @davidjcastner
    weird, is that only imgur or other hosting sites too?
    Lily Romano
    @Lilyheart
    i left when the conversation devolved into the “proper way to teach asset management” which is a can of worms I had no interest in hearing as everyone has different beliefs on that.
    dunno. i rarely use imgur. only to post minecraft pictures to post on reddit xD
    David Castner
    @davidjcastner
    haha don't blame you
    Jonathan Herman
    @lantech19446
    yea I only use imgur to post beard pictures on /r/beards
    Lily Romano
    @Lilyheart

    Jonathan Herman
    @lantech19446
    That's awesome, what language did you use?
    Lily Romano
    @Lilyheart
    that’s just minecraft
    Jonathan Herman
    @lantech19446
    right but didn't you build this?
    Lily Romano
    @Lilyheart
    in minecraft
    by virtual hand with a virtual pickaxe xD
    First I dug a very deep dark hole xD
    Jonathan Herman
    @lantech19446
    maybe I'm missing something, we have a class at the library where they teach kids to build levels using scratch so I thought there was no like drag and drop kind of thing inside minecraft
    Lily Romano
    @Lilyheart
    basic minecraft you are a person running around and can punch things or build tools to punch things.
    This looks like a good basic intro to basic minecraft https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TyjFGmlu90M
    Robert Maylie
    @rmaylie9560
    Wow lil that's beautiful
    Lily Romano
    @Lilyheart
    @lantech19446 What they are teaching isn’t actually minecraft. They are using the minecraft world as a way to introduce programming. Minecraft is a video game where you run around as a person (traditionally known as Steve). First you punch a tree a few times and that gets you logs. Logs you can craft into other things. Which lets you punch more things which lets you build more things.
    Thanks @rmaylie9560. For some reason I have this bizarre love of building tree farms. That is from an old world on http://www.nerd.nu (the pve world). They just started a new map I believe.
