so happy you guys were here tonight, learning the flexbox stuff is helping me with the 2nd project too
Robert Maylie
@rmaylie9560
And your super smart. That kind of question may end my hobby as a coder. Not that I would give up, but I was spend the remainder of my time trying to figure out the answer
Alex H.
@Alexander-Huh
@Lilyheart batman is coming along ok
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
@rmaylie9560 the good news is there is plenty of help out there. Read-Search-Ask!
Robert Maylie
@rmaylie9560
Not my style...
kidding...
i know you guys got my back if I need help.
and then there is all that Googly goodness out there
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
:sleeping: imma head to bed. Didn't sleep much last night so going to see if I can get some extras.
Robert Maylie
@rmaylie9560
Night.
Robert Maylie
@rmaylie9560
so apparently fcc is acting glitchy. While in the middle of writing test statements for a switch statement it marked it correct and pushed me on.
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
The last challenge you did looks correct. Did you happen to hit ctrl when you hit enter?
Robert Maylie
@rmaylie9560
but look at the test methods.
theyre all 1
stacked funny as well but thats besides the point
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
FCC will run all the test methods regardless. That is there for you to test your code as you work.
Robert Maylie
@rmaylie9560
Ooooh i thought they validate all the test methods too when you run to code to pass the lesson
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
They do. regardless of what you put on the right, all the calls on the left will be run. You can test that but putting a console.log(arguments[0]); in your function, open your console and then hit the run button. It runs all the test no matter what.
Robert Maylie
@rmaylie9560
Ahh that's awesome!!
Anthony Zayas
@anthonyzayas
@rmaylie9560@davidjcastner oh goodness... not the scorpion.. haha David will be pushing a scorpion project every hackathon now XD. I want to continue the drone project and once I know more node.js, I will transfer all the python code to it.
David Castner
@davidjcastner
@anthonyzayas don't worry I won't push the scorpion at hackathons, going to work on it in my freetime
Robert Maylie
@rmaylie9560
Drone scorpion tandem dancing!!!
yeeeeeesssssssss!!!!

Jeff Fritz
@csharpfritz_twitter
Hey gang... I'm looking forward to hearing and learning more about what the group is interested in learning and picking up some new techniques
David Castner
@davidjcastner
@csharpfritz_twitter Welcome to MontCode! The group is primarily focused on learning web development and the MEAN stack, but we encourage all sorts of programming related conversations! I work as a full stack developer and am here to help along with getting a certification in the process. Would you like introduce yourself, perhaps your coding background and what's your goal is?
Jeff Fritz
@csharpfritz_twitter
I've been a web developer on the Microsoft stack since 1999, but have not spent much time outside of those technologies. I've dabbled with Node and Mongo, spent some time with Angular 1 and 2 but was not impressed by either.
By the twitter handle, you probably picked up that I am a die-hard C# developer, and I'm trying to diversify my knowledge into other languages as well
I'm very well versed in the complete Microsoft stack, including the cross-platform capabilities. I am still working on my Xamarin skills.
David Castner
@davidjcastner
That's awesome! I'm not familiar with the Microsoft stack, but I would interested in your insight abouth the differences between the stacks
Jeff Fritz
@csharpfritz_twitter
:smile: yeah.. things are REALLY changing on the Microsoft stack. Full support on Mac and Linux in addition to Windows... fastest commercial web server available.. amazing stuff
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Do you think Microsoft will ever reclaim the webb server market @csharpfritz_twitter?
Jeff Fritz
@csharpfritz_twitter
Over the next 3 years... it will happen. Docker support, Linux support, and a service that delivers 3M requests per second will be hard to compete with
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
I kind of hope you're wrong lol but that's just because I love Linux and I find it hilarious that even Microsoft runs on Linux servers. We run windows domain controllers, DNS, DHCP and AD on my network but all the web servers are LAMP because that's what our dev wanted.
Jeff Fritz
@csharpfritz_twitter
Sure.. if LAMP makes folks happy, then more power to them. Yes, lots of Microsoft stuff now runs on Linux, with even SQL server coming in the year ahead
Microsoft is just making the tools available where developers want to work.
If your security team wanted to use AD to authenticate those web servers, your dev friend is out of luck
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
I'll be more qualified to make a decision on it by the time I finish school I know I hated doing java on Microsoft but that was years ago and I'm more familiar with the networking side of things at the moment. I'd rather deal with a Microsoft domain controller any day, they make really great server OS's it's just the clients that are god awful
Jeff Fritz
@csharpfritz_twitter
its a new Microsoft - and they're working on changing a lot of that perception. more customer-driven than I've seen them in years
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
this is true but a great way to change that perception is to start building stuff that doesn't suck isn't deceptive and doesn't try to ship all your data off to marketing silos.
Jeff Fritz
@csharpfritz_twitter
that
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Welcome to the group! I leave the house for one hour and I miss the party!
Jeff Fritz
@csharpfritz_twitter
That's a little rough... but I think I understand your concern
Hey @Lilyheart - I'm looking forward to connecting more at a group meeting, but I'm going to be traveling and have meetings scheduled during the next two weeks
I'm going to try to get to the Node event.. but will be just back in town the night before.
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
Do you get to travel for your web dev job Jeff?
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Just point your browser to chat.montcode.com and you’ll be good to go! Great thing about those is you can be ANYWHERE! WHEEEEE (I may have had an ICEEE with dinner… SUGAR)
Jeff Fritz
@csharpfritz_twitter
:smile: -- I don't build web sites for my full-time job any more.
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
lmao lily are you trying to give the illusion that you aren't always hyper?
