The courses are still available for free at least, and they’re going to refund me the last two months tuition, so it’s really not that bad I guess. I already deviated from their curriculum by delving into React, so my progression from this point forward should be pretty smooth regardless
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Interesting. Well that's something at least.
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
Actually, I got the first month for free thanks to my github student package, and they’re going to pay me back the last two months…so it should be free :D
The Harmonies of Light is neat @KR62 , it reminds me of the musical performances described in The Seventh Tower book series by Garth Nix
a bit less dramatic in real life, but still a great sound
I love the pendulum wave effect, is there a way to code that?
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
@KR62 I recommend using this course at Khan Academy to introduce yourself to the power of programming to explore creative disciplines
KR62
@KR62
ok, thanks very much Eric for the suggestion.
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
"code that" is a very generic term. Code a website? Code a windows program? "Coding" is a huge disciple with many nooks and crannies.
KR62
@KR62
thanks for checking out Jim Oliver's stuff, I love it.
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
yeah that’s easy, especially if it’s just along a single axis. You’ll have to familarize yourself with fundamental programming principles prior to being able to meaningfully reproduce that sort of visualization
KR62
@KR62
Yea, that's the problem with me. Since I don't have the proper background or training I'm kind of lost, just have lots of things I love.
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
start with khan academy, and go through their intro to js course, which is the pre-requisite to the one I shared above
then we can talk more about bringing something to life
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
What eric said.
KR62
@KR62
Awesome, that's what I needed, a plan of action! Thank you.
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Also since fractals is your bag, I say also look at doing as much khan academy math as you can as that will help incredibly in fractals.
KR62
@KR62
thanks Lily.
Eric, what kinds of things are your specialty? Instruction, gaming, creative stuff...?
what's JS, Java Script?
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Yup! you got it.
The part that makes websites fun (oversimplification, but still...)
If I were to remake that pendulum wave in whatever form I wanted to, it would have a javascript base (using paper.js)

KR62
@KR62
Ok, so I guess this is over for tonight? It goes til 7?
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
chat party never stops truthfully. It's a daily thing. Just Tuesday night is reserved for coding for those who need a set time on the calendar to work.

@KR62 I basically live here because I work on computers for a living
Oh, that sounds good. So I can log in anytime if I have more questions.
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
yupyup!
I really need to get the sound effects working on that dots page.
KR62
@KR62
See, I think sound can be linked to linear shape, such as lines or something, brown and black would be long deep sounds and red, orange and yellow shorter, higher sounds. Make a song/visual display of the elements together.
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
@KR62 NPR had someone on recently who actually hears in colors
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
synesthesia is what that's called
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
@KR62 there are many ways I can answer that. I’m most interested in leveraging psychological models in the development of human engagement platforms. I guess more plainly, my specializations are javascript and sass; but i’m more engrossed by meaningful, transformative work than the tools with which I use to accomplish it.
Wow Eric, that's a complex area of study. Good for you! I am all about spirituality and transformation.
Eric Phy
@SimplyPhy
@Lilyheart here turned her home into an autobot [or deceptacon…] :D
Jonathan Herman
@lantech19446
what's your favorite spiritual pursuit?
KR62
@KR62
Anybody study Knot theory? I'm also into Turks Head knots and would love to see them done in animation. How about KnotPlot?
As for spirituality I love receiving Reiki treatments, Holy Fire Reiki is very good and it works for me. I'm also into incredible gifts received from loved ones who have passed over into the spiritual world. Some people even channel deceased people, like Esther Hicks.
She channels the spirit of Abraham.
