xD Finally took a few minutes to fix the chatroom avatar with the new setup. Lemme know if it's not fixed for you now @lantech19446

Hey Lily - new here. I jumped in after 5pm because the post said that was the meetup time, but I think everyone was at dinner. Lol
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
I feel asleep! My fault! I've been sick :/
I actually fell asleep at school today inbetween classes while studying :/
Ted Tyree
@TedTyree_twitter
ooops
thats not good - hope you feel better
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
@TedTyree_twitter we are pretty much always in chat tho. Just Tuesday nights is when we try to devote time to actual coding instead of just chatting. Not that it always works out that way xD but the opportunity is there.
Ted Tyree
@TedTyree_twitter
gotcha
Is the group mostly people learning the art of coding? or a mix of levels?
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
a mix but everyone is a beginner is some language. The few people we have that are strong in some coding are totally new and trying to learn something else in coding.
Ted Tyree
@TedTyree_twitter
gotcha - cool
like the fb group coding for projects to help non-profits
That is pretty impressive - I was thinking that this was more local... but just the chat/meetup is local. The free code camp is global
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
yup yup. MontCode is local. We are not tied to FCC. We do utilize their website and we are an official campsite, but we are autonomous.
It's kinda the best of both worlds.
Ted Tyree
@TedTyree_twitter
Im in Lansdale. Ive been developing code for over 25 years. When I look for consultants I am always surprised at how few people actually know how to program anymore. Mostly just 'installing modules'. So I was wondering where people hang out that actually know how to program - and enjoy writing code
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Awesome. The answer is... not many places in the suburbs. Everything seems to be in "The City" :tm:
I started MontCode 6 months ago partly because of that.
Ted Tyree
@TedTyree_twitter
nice - great idea

Ted Tyree
@TedTyree_twitter
So most of the projects are on Heroku?
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
only MontBot and a personal project of my own (that I'm aware of) e.g. only my stuff. Most people are just starting to learn web dev and are using CodePen or, if a little more advanced, GitHub pages.
Ted Tyree
@TedTyree_twitter
gotcha
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
I know of one member (not really member, MontCode Leadership) who does some AWS stuff @davidjcastner who is full stack.
FCC uses CodePen for front-end and moves to cloud 9 for backend
Ted Tyree
@TedTyree_twitter
neat - thanks for taking the time. esp when you are feeling under the weather
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
no worries! MontCode is a passion and I tend to forget I'm sick when talking about it. :laughing:
Ted Tyree
@TedTyree_twitter
lol
that is the sign of a true coder
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
That's the eating lunch and then working on a project and then realizing it's almost sunrise... That happened a few days ago. Ooops.
Ted Tyree
@TedTyree_twitter
lol - yes I grew up with that problem. My Mother was not too keen on me missing entire days at a time from 'the real world'
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
Doesn't happen if I'm in the bedroom working on something.. I have this elaborate Home Automation setup that tells me it's bedtime. But, that doesn't extend to the living room. I need to come up with something else for that xD if LilyheartPC == on, then yell at Lily.
Ted Tyree
@TedTyree_twitter
cool
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
heh. I was that way too (but it was a grandmother) a few decades ago. Then moved 1/2 way across the country because of someone I met online... in the 90s... THE SCANDAL!
Ted Tyree
@TedTyree_twitter
lol - that does sound like the plot of a movie or something
early in my career I got pulled into microsoft's world and do a lot of my middle/back-end dev in .net now. jquery and such on the front-end.
developed my own CMS in .net but it really would probably be better suited for code.js or something like that
someday if I have enough time I'll have to attempt the crossover
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
We have a few MIrcosoft people around. Two that work for them! One involved with VB and the other... I'm not really sure! He just got the job xD @dcpking ... What do you doooooooo?
I played with node over the summer break (After decades away, I've gone back to school to get a CS degree, I do college fall/spring and outside learning, bootcamp type things winter/summer)
I'm not all that familiar with it yet. I defer those questions to @davidjcastner who is full-stack.
Ted Tyree
@TedTyree_twitter
cool. I'll have to chat with him some day.
Were you asking what I do?
Lily Romano
@Lilyheart
You either said or I saw on meetup when you joined.
Ted Tyree
@TedTyree_twitter
(people that work FOR microsoft?! I better watch what I say around here)
yeah - I joined a while back and filled out a profile, but have been so crazy busy that I haven't had a chance to connect until now
