    @ccziriak
    @Ellinastathi_twitter you could install WP Migrate DB plugin and use it to clone the site to a local install
    what's your end objective?
    Cando2
    @Cando2
    Nice to meet you all too. Thank you.
    G7470
    @G7470
    Welcome @Cando2!
    Stathi
    @Ellinastathi_twitter
    My end objective... my goals... install WP - hopefully in a subfolder on my url-.. without breaking the current HTML site. Choose a theme in WP and start adding imagery and copy to sections. Figure out how to add custom CSS enough to do basic things like background:fixed and parallaxing imagess in the background. Make any sense?
    ccz
    @ccziriak
    so you're on the same domain/hosting account as the original and you want 2 separate WP installations, the existing one in webroot and new one in subdirectory? or did you want to move it?
    Stathi
    @Ellinastathi_twitter
    Same domain yes. Not sure I need 2 separate WP installs... I just want one site eventually. Once the new WP site is done I'd like to somehow flip a switch and make the WP site replace the crappy old HTML site.
    ccz
    @ccziriak
    so your existing site that you don't want to mess up is html, and not the wpengine WP site?
    G7470
    @G7470
    Hmmm
    I'm thinking a subdomain might be useful here
    Create a subdomain, install WP on the root of that (since it sounds like you want it on the root of your new site once the WP stuff is ready). This way, the "move" will be relatively easy.
    What are your thoughts on it @ccziriak?
    ccz
    @ccziriak
    subdomains can be tricky with WP (at least for me) - if I had to solve this I would probably just install WP in a new subdirectory initially, then migrate site to root directory with WP Migrate DB when ready
    Stathi
    @Ellinastathi_twitter
    CCz - yes. G7470... not sure how to do that, but it sounds good. I gotta run out for about 20 min. I'll check back asap... but if you guys can come up with any suggestions, I"m all ears. Thanks and talk in a bit! I'll check back on this thread to see where I ended up.
    G7470
    @G7470
    Interesting. I had the exact opposite problem then, lol.
    ccz
    @ccziriak
    I seem to remember having path issues with a subdomain - then used the plugin to migrate and it worked without issues. It does a search and replace on the path/urls
    G7470
    @G7470
    Weird. I did it manually, so...maybe that's why?
    ccz
    @ccziriak
    possibly - did you have to go through the database and do a manual search and replace or did the paths just work?
    G7470
    @G7470
    Had to do some database work, but not much
    ccz
    @ccziriak
    with WP Migrate DB (there's a free version) you have to do a little bit too but mainly just dropping all the tables and replacing with a database export
    from the source site

    @mhassell
    Howdy! So Abyss coffee in lansdale is closed for good it seems. I was thinking about trying to move the weekend meetup to the lansdale library - if we'er a nonprofit/individual, do we have to pay or get insurance or anything like that?
    I should mention @lantech19446
    G7470
    @G7470
    Sad to hear about Abyss coffee. They had some really good hot chocolate!
    ccz
    @ccziriak
    Yeah it was a nice place to meet
    Adam - were you able to leave the subdomain WP site intact as a staging area when you moved to the webroot?
    Randy R.
    @NotTheDBA
    @Ellinastathi_twitter Have you looked at using WP Multi-site?
    ccz
    @ccziriak
    have stayed away from multisite on advice from WP experts I know
    Randy R.
    @NotTheDBA
    I've got a multi-site running pretty well... but I just looked back at the beggining of the thread for what Stathi was doing, and I don't think it's what he wanted...
    ccz
    @ccziriak
    I've heard it can be resource intensive, and all your sites have to use the same theme, if I remember correctly
    Randy R.
    @NotTheDBA
    Not sure how it would be more resource intenstive (overall) than separate sites, although you might need to configure your PHP to allocate more memory. Also, the theme issue is long since fixed. You can configured separate themes, even separate plugins if you need to.
    ccz
    @ccziriak
    Good to know
    Randy R.
    @NotTheDBA
    http://andalso.fyi - look at the site links (drop down menu under the gear) if you want to see it in action.
    ccz
    @ccziriak
    I'm looking migrations I've done and I'm not sure I ever migrated a site from subdirectory into root on the same domain - has always been from a local install to either new webroot install or subdirectory install
    Randy R.
    @NotTheDBA
    That could be tricky, but I think my favorite deployment plugin, All-in-One WP Migration handles it ok if they're separate installs. Multi-site support is a paid upgrade tho, so I haven't used that on that site I linked.
    All-In-One handes most of the configuration and database imports. The only time I've had issues is migrating from older versions of WP where the theme or plugins aren't current, sometimes they lose configurations.
    ccz
    @ccziriak
    cool multisite implementation
    is All-in-One WP Migration free or premium?
    for non multi-site
    Randy R.
    @NotTheDBA
    The base is free for non-multisite. Part of why it's a favorite. ;-)
    Dead simple to use.
    ccz
    @ccziriak
    will have to check it out
    Randy R.
    @NotTheDBA
    I started using it because I was using Desktop Server to do dev and deployment, and I found out that it wouldn't deploy to managed WP sites on my host.
    ccz
    @ccziriak
    hey @NotTheDBA - have you worked with Gutenberg?
    Jonathan Herman
    @lantech19446
    Hey @mhassell you wouldn't have to pay but our community room is probably booked through most of 2018 already. If it's not to loud I'm you'd be able to use a couple of our tables and we have wifi through the whole building
    Randy R.
    @NotTheDBA
    I have not.
    Matthew Hassell
    @mhassell
    @lantech19446 Very cool, thanks. Should we fill out the form still and run it past the directors and all? I don't want to have a clandestine meetup that causes problems at the library!
    ccz
    @ccziriak
    I've started looking into Gutenberg a little but keep abandoning it to work on a client site
    Randy R.
    @NotTheDBA
    What do you think of it so far?
    Jonathan Herman
    @lantech19446
    We don't really even have a form, call 215-855-3228 and talk to Pat she books the room, I suspect they might let you use the directors office if you only have 3-5 people but don't quote me on that
