It was a lot of work class 10-6 daily (downtown so add an hour for travel) and usually had plenty of work each evening

Howdy all. Sorry I've been so mia lately. Hopefully better soon. In the meantime, my roommate just told me about a nightmare he had last night. Microsoft bought Oracle.

@Seaner71, NYCDA offers a lot of free intro courses. I'm curious, but I'm not sure if I'm willing to fight downtown traffic and parking for an entire camp.
ccz
@ccziriak
Yeah, I hear ya @Seaner71. I started my own business instead - still in the launching phase.

@Seaner71
I took the train - the campus is right by suburban station
which isnt cheap but beats paying for parking daily
@ccziriak cool. what will be the focus of you biz?
Zenzi Ali
@zeeatwork
I can imagine! I'm glad to hear that they offer some help with job prep /placement.
it definitely is helpful. I worked in a different industry for 25 years so I need to learn all the buzzwords etc
very nice @ccziriak

@ccziriak
@Seaner71 Thanks
Sean Smyth
@Seaner71
@ccziriak how did you learn your skills?
Randy R.
@NotTheDBA
back
@Seaner71 I'm doing the Penn sponsored program.
ccz
@ccziriak
@Seaner71 Used a variety of ways - online searches/tutorials, school, FCC, projects. I had a side business for several years a while back, and have done websites since the early days of the web. For my own personal interests and volunteer for church. non-profits.

@NotTheDBA
HI @zeeatwork
Sean Smyth
@Seaner71
@NotTheDBA willl you be in the first class?
Randy R.
@NotTheDBA
@Seaner71 No, I missed the cut-off, so I'm in the second one.
Sean Smyth
@Seaner71
cool -i would recommend it for anyone who has the time and resources to do it. I tried a little FCC and Codeacademy on my own but it would have taken me years on my own
Randy R.
@NotTheDBA
Yeah - that's kind of where I am with it. I have a lot of background, but I missed a lot of the front end and web technologies that companies want for full stack these days, which has been limiting the job junt options.
I've played around with things on my own, but I need a focused approach.
Sean Smyth
@Seaner71
I was what I would call a power Excel user prior to starting but I had some pretty big knowledge gaps. i.e . I had never used the command line
Randy R.
@NotTheDBA
That's a big jump in a short period. Definitely worth it!
Sean Smyth
@Seaner71
and yea the focused approach thing is very helpful
@NotTheDBA good luck to you. it's a lot of work but it should open a lot of doors
Randy R.
@NotTheDBA
Much appreciated, thanks!
Zenzi Ali
@zeeatwork
Hi @NotTheDBA. Sorry, I haven't looked at the chat screen in a bit.
Randy R.
@NotTheDBA
No worries @zeeatwork - we all get busy here. :-)
Sean Smyth
@Seaner71
@NotTheDBA looks like @ Penn they will be teaching React and Node which from my early job search results seem to be a lot more popular these days over Rails
