I plug it into my pc, select Boot into live(safe graphics or whatever it was called) and then i see some 3 dots on the screen that are kind of a loading bar. After they disappear nothing happens until i ctrl+alt+delete

Are you using safe graphics mode for any reason in particular? Do the other entries don't work? The three dots that you describe is Plymouth loading, so it's booting correctly, from that I understand then that SDDM isn't loading, and therefore the Plasma session isn't starting.

After Plymouth is loading, switch to a different TTY pressing CTRL+F1 and enter nitrux and press ENTER, then type startx and press ENTER and if the graphical session doesn't start, please take a clear picture of the output.

Also, what hardware do you have?.

@ViktoRRRRRRRRRR What distro are you trying to install?
If 1.2.5, then I had the same problem. You need at least 1.2.6 - everything is already fine there.
If everything is correct with distro, then try to check the integrity of the system in safe mode, download updates, and be sure to start the Internet (Wi-Fi). I had the same picture with 1.2.5.
Good luck

@ViktoRRRRRRRRRR OK. I checked it myself and got a strange result - I also can’t start this version from USB.
I installed 1.2.5 first (there was a similar problem), then installed 1.2.6 and everything installed and worked perfectly.
Try to find (if you're lucky), download 1.2.6 and install this distro until the guys figure out what the problem is.
I will try tomorrow to check on another PC.

I just flashed the ISO to a USB, grabbed my laptop (a Razer Blade 15 Advanced - i7 9750H and RTX 2070), and booted up the USB. It booted up fine. All boot menu entries work. During the boot process, there's a message regarding LVM, so an indicative was to remove the GRUB parameter that enables disk encryption, but it boots up either way.

I also tested on a different desktop computer (i5 7400 and RX 580), and it boots up too. So it's not related to the Nvidia drivers.

Then I tested on two different desktop computers (Xeon E5-2680 and R9 Nano) in which it booted up fine and (R7 2700x and 2x GTX 1080) and here's where I can see the problem. It does boot up, but it doesn't start SDDM, and therefore, there's no graphical session.

Are you using a Ryzen CPU?

Sergiy
@OldRunner_gitlab
@UriHerrera Well, I also just launched this OS from my Toshiba 300D laptop, and the system started up and works (I'm in it now) absolutely normal.
The difference is that on my DELL there is a video card nVidia 730 and on Toshiba there is Radeon and, apparently, this is the problem, because on both are Intel CPUs.
The most interesting thing is that on this PC it is installed stationary and works very well (as the main system) Nitrux 1.2.6
I hope that the team will find the cause of this problem and the issue will be resolved.
I hope for a quick solution to this problem, since I would also like to update the kernel to a new version, and this can be done, as I was told, only with a "clean installation".
So Uri, we are waiting for the positive news.

@UriHerrera I tried to boot my DELL from USB again, I tried in all 3 ways that were on the USB flash drive. Tried to get through somehow (hope for a miracle) to the graphic screen but ...
But it always ended up (freezes) by half load and yes - It does boot up, but there's no graphical session.
When I tried to use the terminal, the system did not start the graphical shell of DE and gave an error.
It’s strange that this is only on the Dell PC and I still can’t understand this - is it a video card or something in BIOS

It seems to be the kernel, actually. There's some regression happening. It's fixed for the next ISO.

it should but I can't be 100% sure that it does because I don't have one, so I can't test.

Hello hello! Glad to see Nitrux and the community are picking up steam.
I'm having a hard time getting to the documentation. The old compendium URL and FAQ URL just direct me to the main Nitrux site, and the new URL mentioned in the banner in this chatroom sends me to a password protected site. Am I missing something, or has the documentation moved?

Hi. The Compendium and FAQ have information that only pertains to the ZNX ISOs, not the ISO that you download from the website.

Hi, Uri. Today, system updates came and as a result I got these data:
System: Host: sergio-dellxps420 Kernel: 5.4.23-050423-generic x86_64 bits: 64
Desktop: KDE Plasma 5.18.4 Distro: Nitrux 1.2.8 build.19znx

But what bothers me is that the kernel still remains the same 5.4.23, although I know that the system has already come out with 5.5.x
Could it be that the system has been updated to 1.2.8, but the kernel is not being updated?

Hi. Newer kernels only come in new ISOs. The version number that you've got is also wrong, that's why the package base-files is on hold for that ISO.

Sergiy
@OldRunner_gitlab
Ok Uri. I understood.
But the question now is about the new version of the OS - I see only ISO with 1.2.7 on the site, but it does not start with me.
I hope that soon there will be a "working" 1.2.8 if an update with this number has already gone through the system.

But you can install a new kernel though if you want, you don't have to wait. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds

OK . I will try to install as you advise. It will be interesting to see the result. In any case, I hope that soon we will see a new version.

How can I run VMetal on another drive?

What do you mean by another drive? Do you want to put the Windows virtual drives on another storage device? If so, you can do that, then just create a symlink in ~/VMetal/images pointing to the files.

Hi Uri, I use TP-Link and there were no problems with it before, and now after activation in the “safe mode” it worked without problems. When there was a problem, the system reported that "there is no network manager".
There was still a problem with “freezing” during reboots - the system hung up and did not respond to any commands or to “3 fingers” or to anything else and only had to turn off the PS completely (from the power supply).
I immediately reinstalled the OS, updated it, and it seems the problem is gone.
I started the computer right now and checked - everything worked properly.
But there is another problem that I noticed in previous releases - it does not save DE color settings in the selected option (light) and always resets to the dark (default) option.
This is especially annoying when you need to open Discover and in the search field it is not possible to see anything that you write until you set the light mode again.

Are you looking for documentation for something specifically? Or do you need help with something?. We don't have a central place for MauiKit documentation yet, but you can check the blog or join the Telegram group at https://t.me/mauiproject if you're looking to develop something with it.

When you change the theme, for example, from the dark theme to the light theme, you have to change it too using Kvantum Manager, changing the theme using the Global Theme KCM does not change the Kvantum theme. Also, the Kvantum theme does not pick up the color-scheme that is selected using the Colors KCM since the Kvantum SVG theme engine does not work like that. When Kvantum is used, the color-scheme is complementary to the Kvantum theme as the theme is already providing the colors for the UI widgets.

Applications such as Discover and the Maui apps use QML and not QtWidgets like System Settings, Ark, Calc, etc. So they are not themed to the full extent that QtWidgets apps are because Kvantum does not support QML adequately.

After installing the new version 1.2.8, I accidentally found out that it was installed on Btrfs not Ext4. How it happened - I can’t even imagine :) - I installed the same partition on the disk with the replacement 1.2.6 and the FS should have remained the same. But this is not the most interesting.
What is interesting, I got a strange feeling (just my feeling) that the new system was somehow faster - feedback on commands, in the execution of programs, search in the browser.
I understand that the new kernel should improve the things that I’m talking about, but could it be connected with what FS it is installed on?
I’m just curious, it’s just me alone who “noticed” such things or someone else.

BTRFS has been the default filesystem used in the installer, so it may be a combination of the newer Kernel and Plasma versions.

Thanks Uri, I didn’t know.
The fact is that I also have other OS installed in parallel, and the GRUB from Ex4 does not see everything that is installed on Btrfs :)
I had to solve this problem, too.
But the speed?
Did it just seem to me? Is that an illusion?

That seems to be a known problem with GRUB, it can't browse BTRFS subvolumes.

Hi @UriHerrera I prefer to use Nitrux light windows decoration but sometimes I use the dark variant with specific apps like konsole. I used to create windows rules to force dark variant with breeze but it seems that this doesn’t work with Nitrux widow decoration theme. I tried also using Kvantum tu apply dark variant of Nitrux to Konsole but the frame remains light. Is there anything I can do to achieve this?

The Breeze window decoration is a native QStyle window decoration, in other words, it uses C++ code, and it takes its colors from the color scheme, this is why you can select different window colors for different windows. The window decorations that we use are not QStyle decorations; they use the Aurorae theme engine and make use of SVG assets to draw the decoration. Changing the color scheme does not affect them.

Kvantum Manager only affects Kvantum; it doesn't affect window decorations. And I don't think that it's possible to have different window decorations per window with Kwin.
