    Hello, I saw the OBF travel fellowship deadline is the 15th of April which is before the BOSC authors are notified. Does this impact our chance of getting a fellowship?
    Yo Yehudi
    @yochannah
    I don't think so- people attending other conferences can apply too
    Tony Yang
    @tonyyzy
    Right...because they ask for a "role"/participation in the conference. I though speak would carry more weight than just participant
    Yo Yehudi
    @yochannah
    I think maybe that's true - but it doesn't mean participants shouldn't apply :)
    Tony Yang
    @tonyyzy
    Fair, thanks! 😊
    Nomi Harris
    @nlharris
    @tonyyzy You can put in your travel fellowship application “Submitted a talk abstract.” At that point, BOSC will already have your abstract and will be reviewing all the abstracts during the period when the travel fellowship applications are also being reviewed. If you submit a great abstract, that will be considered in your travel fellowship evaluation.
    Good luck, and we hope to see you at BOSC! 🍐

    Greetings, BOSC community! More tips on registration:
    • You do NOT need to register for ISMB in order to submit an abstract!
    • Following on from the discussion above with Tony, you do NOT need to register for ISMB in order to submit a travel fellowship application. You will find out whether or not you were accepted for a travel fellowship before ISMB early registration closes (which is not until June).

    Hi all! Just a reminder that the late round abstract deadline is Wednesday night! Abstracts will be considered for posters and a limited number of late-breaking lightning talks. Tell your friends and colleagues! There’s a flyer here: https://github.com/OBF/bosc_materials/blob/master/2019/BOSC2019-flyer8.pdf
    Submission instructions are here: https://www.open-bio.org/events/bosc/submit/

    @tonyyzy
    Great! Which timezone is the deadline set in?
    Yo Yehudi
    @yochannah
    I believe it's open so long as it's the 15th anywhere in the world

    If you are hoping to have your ISMB/BOSC poster printed for you, I saw this on https://www.iscb.org/cms_addon/conferences/ismbeccb2019/posters.php:

    Delegates wishing to have their poster printed in Basel can contact iscbposters@thoma-druck.ch to make arrangements. … Please provide the printer the poster no later than July 15 to ensure your poster is ready.

    Hi all,
    Every year at BOSC, we organize an informal pay-your-own-way dinner for the first 30 people who RSVP. The dinner will be the second day of BOSC (Thursday, July 25) at 7:30pm at the Basel Markthalle, a food court 2km from the conference center. See the BOSC 2019 dinner page (http://bit.ly/BOSC2019-dinner) for more info and to sign up.

    We hope you can join us! 🍐

    The complete #BOSC2019 program is now available at https://www.open-bio.org/events/bosc/schedule/! You can download a PDF with all of the abstracts (147 pages--please don't print it! 🌲) or a short version without the abstracts.

    @nlharris for the lightning talks, are we putting the presentations on one computer? Do we do this in the intermission between sessions? Thanks!
    Nomi Harris
    @nlharris
    Hi, @kaushik-work, thanks for asking and sorry for the delay (the BOSC organizers were all out to dinner).
    We ask ALL speakers (not just those with lightning talks) to copy their slides onto the podium computer during the break before their session. Your talk isn’t until Day 2 after lunch, but for those who are speaking in one of the first morning sessions tomorrow (Data Crunching and Data Modeling), they need to copy their slides to the podium computer during the break between the ISMB morning keynote and the BOSC opening at 10:15.
    Kaushik Ghose
    @kaushik-work
    Thanks @nlharris ! Should we convert the talks to PDF (I have mine in google slides format)?
    Nomi Harris
    @nlharris
    That’s probably safest. Another option would be to open your slide URL in the web browser on the podium computer and bookmark it so you can bring it up quickly when you start your talk. That’s riskier, though—in my experience, the wifi at conferences is sometimes slow and can be unreliable.
    Kaushik Ghose
    @kaushik-work
    :thumbsup: Thanks @nlharris
    Nomi Harris
    @nlharris
    Hi all, don’t miss the keynote talk by Nicola Mulder at 2pm! And if you are speaking in the afternoon session, now’s a good time to copy your slides onto the podium computer.
    Peter Cock
    @peterjc
    Everyone coming to the CoFest tomorrow or Saturday, please confirm if you need lunch either or both days (new column on the registration form added last night), and if you have any special dietary requirements (e.g. vega, vegetarian). A few people have said they can only come for one day due to travel constraints, so this will really help with catering. Link: https://www.open-bio.org/events/bosc/collaborationfest/

    I forgot to mention in the announcements this morning -- everyone should make sure to stay on the microphone, otherwise the recording won't pick you up!

    Hi all, if you’re joining us at Markthalle for dinner, there are directions here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/15G1RNudlcd1yDV2bNsnnnoTKEwv_2HPBC7FVW30i6iY/edit?ts=5d26ca2f#
    (It’s where the ISMB social was on Tuesday evening, for those who went to that)
    Even if you didn’t sign up, you can come—just leave the seats at the reserved BOSC tables for those who did sign up, until 8pm. After that, any empty seats are fair game!
    Please order your drinks at the Markthalle bar, even if you order food at one of the food counters. We agreed to order drinks at their bar in exchange for their giving us reserved seating. 🥤🍺🍹🍷🍸

    Hey people, is it possible to update the slides after publishing to F1000? Might need to update a figure after getting permission. Thanks!
    Nomi Harris
    @nlharris
    I bet it is, but you should ask F1000! We don’t have control over the slides published there. Thanks for publishing your slides!
    Stian Soiland-Reyes
    @stain
    @tonyyzy I had that issue two years ago, then you could not update f1000 uploads under poster or slides, unlike the paper uploads
