Yeha, you can change the text alignments from the editor!
The users should have been imported I think. I had imported the compressed file and it had imported authors as well. So even the respective logins should be preserved!

I updated the site last night! I'll comment on some issues!

Alright, I updated a few and marked them as 'needs review'! :D

i’m taking a look!
CollaborationFest seems to have lost its icon on the home page

@kushinauwu
I had accidentally updated that only on the live site instead of the local one, oops! Fixed that now, and addressed the rest of the issues as well! :D
I feel like it is all coming together! <3

thanks for putting the pictures next to the text on https://www-dev1.open-bio.org/events/bosc/about/. would it be possible to vertically align the pictures with the subheaders rather than with the text under them?
Deepashree Deshmukh
@kushinauwu
Yes, just fixed that :) Also, I updated the Sponsors page as well and marked it for review!

hi deepashree, sorry to be a pain about this, but since i’ve discovered it’s not going to be easy for me to change formatting on the site by myself, i wondered if you could make this tweak: can you make the subheads on the About BOSC page left-aligned rather than centered?
two other formatting/alignment things, on https://www-dev1.open-bio.org/events/bosc/sponsors/: can this table be indented the same as the text above, and can it have more horizontal space in the columns so the column headers don’t collide?
also, very minor thing, can the bullets be aligned with the text above rather than outdented? even the text after the bullets appears to be slightly outdented compared with the non-bulleted text.
one more alignment thing on the sponsors page—why are these logos not vertically aligned?
Nomi Harris
@nlharris
most of th eother logos are aligned, but lower down in that array of sponsors, there’s another row that’s not aligned well:
also, the third of those is illegible; it may need to go on a different row and get more horizontal space.
if you don’t have time to fix these, we’ll deal. i’ve just realized, after playing with the editor yesterday, that changing the layout is not going to be simple for me, since it looks different in the editor than on the page.

Oh it's totally fine! The get involved parts are left aligned in the most recent update I made. Also the table should be colored the pear yellow and green and spaced evenly.. Could you try clearing the cache again? I believe it might be the reason this happened. The table looked like that before I added CSS to it!
I'll look into the sponsors showing up weird and get back to you!

@nlharris
sorry i keep failing to do shift-reload! i thought i had, but clearly not. looks better now!

So, I've tried importing from the live site to a different local installation and it has worked completely fine! I did get a warning that said the import might fail as the site that's being imported has PHP 5 and the local installation had PHP 7.
But it worked out fine! Just a headsup when you're importing to a different live site.

Nice one!! Thanks so much for checking <3 <3 was that via the all-in-one plugin or the default wp import/export?
Deepashree Deshmukh
@kushinauwu
Oh, the local isntallation I imported on is using WordPress 5.1, the latest update, while the live site is using 5.0.3. So I've been trying to update my original local installation(whew, is that confusing?!) which is using 5.0.3 as well to 5.1 to see how well it works but my internet is sooo slow it is still showing me the 'unpacking updates' page!
It's still the all-in-one plugin! :)

@yochannah
waiting for the internet to slowly churn along sounds frustrating!

haha it is! It is working in the background so I'm going to update the repo ! I updated the instructions though :D

Just updated the repo! I'll make the PR now! :D Also, Github Desktop won't let me push to the repo anymore if I update the import file, because it's over 200 MB. :o So I included export guidelines as well in the readme. It's pretty easy, just clicking on the export button!
i don’t see the little black vertical line on the right on chrome, though there’s a line at the bottom of the button (which doesn’t look as bad—looks like a sort of shadow).

@yochannah
entertainingly, I see this in ff: (totally normal)
but the same as @gedankenstuecke in Chrome

@gedankenstuecke
yeah, in FF it looks ok. just used chrome by chance this morning when having our meeting as that doesn’t work in FF for me :D
Yo Yehudi
@yochannah
sounds like we have a similar chrome strategy: use it for Google apps when they're icky in FF but generally otherwise not
