My understanding is that if the admin forbid the access to thrid apps it's not possible to end-users to authenticate anymore. I think that Thunderbird uses PLAIN authentication via SSL.
IOW, XOAUTH2 is bloked but you could still use the PLAIN auth mechanism in offlineimap via SSL.
Norbert Preining
@norbusan
Thanks @nicolas33 so you mean THunderbird uses normal login with second-factor check to authenticate? But this is something that wouldn't work in offlineimap, right? How could I provide the second factor?
Nicolas Sebrecht
@nicolas33
@norbusan I'm not sure about Thunderbird. That's a guess.
I'm not a gmail user for years. If XOAUTH2 requires the use of the third party app I think it's possible to use the usual IMAP AUTH method which is supported by offlineimap (PLAIN in SSL).

The second auth factor is another thing. It's usually done by providing a mobile phone number in gmail to google.

Hi @nicolas33 ... should we change the default branch for pull requests to "next", so that user submitted pull requests only get merged to the "next" branch? Is this possible? For example, on this PR: OfflineIMAP/offlineimap#641
Nicolas Sebrecht
@nicolas33
Hi @chris001 No, we should not change the default branch. That's what the users get when cloning the repository. And that's one of the reasons why we don't develop into master.
It's fine for PRs to intend master. Actually, that's what most contributors should do : develop on top of master and PR against master. That's the maintainer job to apply the PRs where approppriate.

after a reboot, offlineimap is suddenly giving me the error Account main: no folder to sync (folderfilter issue?)
I don't have any folderfilter set
offlineimap --info successfully connects to my IMAP server and outputs a list of folders, which matches the list it outputs of my local folders exactly
offlineimap -d imap,maildir,thread outputs the list of local folders and then []: Copying folder structure from remote to local and then a bunch of blank lines and then the above error
Nicolas Sebrecht
@nicolas33
@jbg If you have v7.3.1, please try v7.3.2.
Jasper
@jbg
@nicolas33 thanks for the reply, I shall try
I do indeed have 7.3.1
Jasper
@jbg
@nicolas33 thanks again - I can confirm that v7.3.2 fixes the issue

@nicolas33 I think we should make a branch, dedicated to a py3 port, accepting patches, the only requirement, that the code runs and works perfect in py3, and installs with pip3 from PyPI, maybe using a different name for PyPI, such as: offlineimap-py3, what do you think?
Nicolas Sebrecht
@nicolas33
@chris001 The idea is good. However, this should be in a new fork. I'll help any developer wanting to take the job.

@chris001
I made a fix to issue #645 , how do you like it @nicolas33 ? I can do a Pull Request if you want.
Just to make it official.

@nicolas33 Does the error "Cannot create folder INBOX.FOO" mean that the server is blocking the creation of the subfolder of "INBOX", for administrative policy reason ?
Chris Coleman
@chris001
@nicolas33 Should we add a simple function to detect the name of the IMAP mail server software, as displayed in the IMAP banner string, after the capabilities? This would save a lot of time, bypassing asking users what's the IMAP software their server is running, especially when many users don't know and don't care which IMAP server software is running on the source and target. Because it appears that many IMAP software gives unique text error messages that don't pattern match what we're expecting to receive from the top 5 IMAP server softwares.

Might be, yes.

Of course. I think we should log this info.

Should we contact @spaetz and ask him to request $$ from the org's opencollective page for the domain name fees accumualted over the years? It's good to show expenses associated with the org, and reimbursements...
Chris Coleman
@chris001
I'm guessing 10 yrs x $10/yr (estimated) for the .org = $100...
Nicolas Sebrecht
@nicolas33
For sure. That's a very good idea.
@spaetz would you agree?

Any suggestion on easy way to identify all places in the code where it resolves a hostname to an IP4 (or IP6) address? imapserver.py ? acquireconnection() ?

@nicolas33 Did you see the 5 security advisory notifications for the website code repo offlineimap.github.io ?? As soon as possible, we need to either upgrade the jquery version being used to version 3.5.0 (this is the current stable), OR apply one of the 2 (?) cheap workarounds mentioned inside the security advisory notifications..
Nicolas Sebrecht
@nicolas33
Thanks for the report. I'm not sure it's very important for a static web site. Anyway, it's good to upgrade jquery.

Hi everyone! I'm trying to configure offlineimap + mu4e. After reading the docs, I tried setting the synclabels for a Gmail account. How could I check if it is working? I have viewed the messages themselves but there is no field called X-Keywords in any email.
Chris Coleman
@chris001
Hi @nicolas33 can I add a label for issues, "need analysis!" ? Referring to the new issue today about gmail x-labels header showing different values depending on message located in gmail folder "Inbox", "A", or "B".
Nicolas Sebrecht
@nicolas33
@chris001 Yes, sure!

Hello to everyone! I am thinking to use offlineIMAP in order to have synchronized two IMAP servers, one local and one remote. I want two way synchronization. Is my senario ok for offlineIMAP? What could be the best setup file? ( .offlineimaprc), assuming that the remote account is ex: IMAP (Dovecot): mail.test.com tester@test.com and the local maildir path: /var/vmail/tester/
