    Hello everyone. When I set the position of the taskbar to the left or right, the openshell overlaps it. How can I set the window location to be similar to the standard Windows start?

    Hi! I'm an old guy, and not very computer literate. I've been running Open Shell for quite a while, and it occurred to me this morning that I need to learn how to make a back up of my Start Menu. Do I need to learn a method unique to Open Shell, or can I just follow the general instructions I find on the web for backing any Windows 10 Start Menu? -- Will in Seattle, a.k.a. "Clueless"

    P.S. What is "Gitter Public Repo Access"? I just received an email advising me that "A third-party OAuth application (Gitter Public Repo Access) with read:org and user:email scopes was recently authorized to access your account." Should I revoke that?
    Spokey42
    @Spokey42

    don't know about the account, but for the backup of settings (if that is what you mean)
    right clk Start->Settings
    At the bottom of the settings dialog is a dropdown to backup, restore, etc.

    Oh, and I wish people (not so much here) would stop with the "I'm an old guy stuff". It's fine to not know. But being old doesn't mean you're incapable. I'm only in my 70s and don't know everything. Perhaps when I hit 80 . . . (oops forgot my thought<g>)

    Hi, i want to report an issue
    why does Open Shell disable windows security ?
    i installed it on my VM and it does pretty bad stuff
    i also scanned it in virustotal . many people said its insecure, it does nasty things and many people also suggest to run classic shell since its "more secure!"

    @RandomPenguin1778
    please fix this issue

    @therksius
    Define "bad stuff" please. It hasn't disabled Windows Security for me and I have it installed on 7 different computers, maybe you had a bad download? Also I believe you can still use Classic Shell if you prefer but the development has ended and if/when Microsoft breaks the way it interacts with the shell it will stop working.

    I'm guessing Windows 11 will break the existing code.

    Works fine in 11 preview
    but specific taskbar tweaks still need to be implemented
    so I also use StartIsBack just for the taskbar details

    Is there a way to customize the shut down button? In windows 7 I could make it so "Sleep" was the big button and I pressed the arrow to get other options. Is there any way to do this with Open Shell?
    CTVCAM8
    @CTVCAM8

    You need to change the "Shutdown command" in the "Main menu" settings tab.

    Right-click on the middle of the Start button to show a small context menu.
    Select "Settings".

    Look at the top of the settings and check the box "Show All settings".
    Ensure the "Start Menu Style" tab is set to "Windows 7 style".

    Select "Main menu" settings tab.
    Scroll down to find all the Shutdown commands.
    Select "Sleep" option and click the "OK" button (bottom right).

    Hi my dear friends! Please version for Windows 11!!!!! And PLEASE DO SOMETHING with this horrible Win11 taskbar!!!!
    MR
    @mr10008
    I'm using the "Classic with two columns" setting on win 10. The background of the main menu is dark grey. Is there any way to change the background of the selected Programs which popup on the top/over the main menu? I would like to have their background light so that they stand out from the rest of the main menu, otherwise it's difficult to see the various entries.

    Please be a Saint, and provide us with a screenshot, and skin name,
    and if it's being altered by using a High Contrast Win10 theme,
    or another program like WindowBlinds, etc.

    You might be able to edit the skin file and change the selector and new selector buttons brightness\color,
    by reading up on "How To Skin a Start Menu":

    http://classicshell.net/tutorials/skintutorial.html

    Even if it's a modified skin,
    WindowBlinds is not fully compatible with Open\Classic Shell and will override what's in the skin file.

    @mr10008

    @CTVCAM8 Thanks for your response.
    Here is the screenshot and I'd like to see the Submenu of AOMEI in lighter color.
    https://i.postimg.cc/L8xWsMDS/submenu-background.jpg

    The skin I'm using is Metro and it's not modified in any way by any other software.

    @CTVCAM8

    Sorry MR @mr10008, I seem a bit confused which is normal for me. :)
    So, it's not the selectors but the submenu background that you want to whitish?
    I have a strange feeling that maybe you want each submenu flyout to be lighter than the first submenu.
    I don't think that is possible. The submenu can only have one look and be a single column or multiple columns.

    If it is just a white submenu you want, check out the below screenshot.
    I borrowed some of the Windows 8.skin submenu contents,
    and put them as a white submenu option in the classic Metro.skin:

    http://classicshell.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=17&p=36492#p36492

    If this is not what you want,
    then modify your screenshot to exactly what you want it to look like with a photo\image editor.

    MR
    @mr10008

    I have a strange feeling that maybe you want each submenu flyout to be lighter than the first submenu.

    Exactly, just the flyout that is selected at a particular time.

    @CTVCAM8
    Thanks for your response. Pity that the submenu flyouts cannot be modified...

    MR @mr10008
    I remember a few users mentioning on the Classic Shell forum
    that it's hard to tell where the next submenu starts.
    I think the only way is to make the left side border of the submenu bitmap thicker like in XP,
    or have either the submenu or selector have a gradient.

    Well, at least I got something out of this.
    Your "The Saint" avatar reminded me of my parents watching that show.
    I found it free to watch on Shout factory tv website.

    MR
    @mr10008
    @CTVCAM8 I was watching that show myself in the 60s :-)
    although didn't see all episodes since my family didn't have own TV yet at that time...

    Nice work @djmike3404 on that 125% size start button.

    Would it be ok if I upload it onto the old Classic Shell forum's Start Buttons section?

    Yeh, that looks pretty good. Might be even better to make a full animated button as well. :)

    This is strange, open shell hasn't been working. I wake up this morning and go to my computer and voila it is magically working all of a sudden!
    djmike3404
    @djmike3404
    @CTVCAM8 yes you can upload it if you want. This button is animated like the others in windows 11. when you click on it it does get a bit smaller. it matches the animation of win 11 taskbar shortcuts.

    Hi all, does OpenShell (StartMenu) support commands for importing/exporting settings (xml)? ClassicShell did, but I can't get commands to work with OpenShell. I only found a 'don't know' in this chat after a quick search!

    Typical, figured it out right after posting this. It works, example from CMD: "start StartMenu.exe -xml settings.xml"
