Now i do :D Just got an email by someone who asks if we could use some servers they want to renew. I answered that we can use donated computers, but mainly Laptops and asked what kind of computers those are. Any ideas on what we would take and what definitely not? I'd say we could possibly take desktops if in good shape and re-distribute them to people who really need computers? But server racks are probably useless... opinions?

@xMartin
i'd say we're only interested if it's laptops that are better than the ones we have. @bastianalbers

@bastianalbers
It is server racks, so i'll thankfully decline.

Hello. I recently moved to Berlin and I'm learning to code Web development. I have some experience with basic HTML, CSS, JS and looking forward to learn more and get in to the market. I have some doubts about market and also I'm taking the free courses provided by OTS to improve my skills. Could I join the meeting at Wednesdays with this basic skills and no projects at all?
Bastian Albers
@bastianalbers
Sure, we welcome learners of all levels and have people with no (like, absolutely zero) prior experience all the time. It is a good place to get an idea how to continue learning. That said: it's always good to have a project.

@RSchneider94
@bastianalbers hey! thank you so much for your reply. I'll certainly show up! :smile:

hey, we could use a gitter room for the co-learning groups in zurich... is there any chance to get one inside of the opentechschool "group"?
hm, i just realized that discourse is not using https. that should be fixed :-/
xMartin
@xMartin
I agree. we have to talk to the discourse people because they host us

Hello, I'm a software developer who had recently moved to Berlin and I'm interested in community work. I'd like to ask how can I participate in OTS as a coach (JavaScript, Node.js, Front-end development, React.js)?
Haiko Schol
@haikoschol
hi @evvvvr and welcome to Berlin and OTS! :)
if you are free tonight, you can come to our learners meetup. i'll be there as well as a few other organizers/coaches
Thank You! I'm so sorry, I'm not available today and the rest of the week. Will go to web frontend co-learning next Wednesday!
Haiko Schol
@haikoschol
no worries :)
Volodymyr Galkin
@evvvvr
@haikoschol Should I notify someone that I want to join there as a coach/helper or I'll just go there and tell about it to organizers?
Haiko Schol
@haikoschol
just go there. i'm not at this particular meetup, but at the python co-learning we always have a short explanation how things work and usually do an introduction round. it's probably the same at the frontend meetup. the people running it are all very friendly and helpful :)
in general we want to keep the line between learner and coach blurry. coach basically only means that you can answer some questions that come up and don't mind doing so. there are some basic guidelines what to do and not to do as a coach. when you talk to the organizers they will probably tell you about that. there should also be a presentation somewhere on opentechschool.org. i'm pretty busy with work right now, so can't look for it
Volodymyr Galkin
@evvvvr
Ok, thank you so much for the help
Haiko Schol
@haikoschol
you're welcome. always happy to have more people helping out :)

@RohanYarburg
Hello, my name is Rohan Yarburg, I'm new to OpenTechSchool. I'm living in Hamburg and I just joined the meetup online group of hamburg.
I'm new the germany too actually, I came from Denmark about 2 weeks ago, I'm also part of HackYourFuture there.
xMartin
@xMartin
hi @RohanYarburg , welcome!
what is HackYourFuture?
what are your expectations of OpenTechSchool?
Rohan Yarburg
@RohanYarburg
Thank you @xMartin , HackYourFuture is a coding school, they teach and guide refugees to learn programming and web development.
I don’t know about OpenTechSchool until yesterday, so I don’t know what to expect. I read there’s some events of meeting up for some different workshops or courses.
Rohan Yarburg
@RohanYarburg
But I was wondering if there’s like a space where I can just go, sit and study. The internet in the center where is stay is actually really slow and the environment is quite busy and noisy.
