Question to orchard gurus is it possible to update or seed widgets or only body of the widget by using recipes ?
Benedek Farkas
@BenedekFarkas
@RotariPavel yes, using the Import-Export feature. Every built-in part/field supports that, so you can do CRUD on content items using just recipes.
Pavel Rotari
@RotariPavel
@BenedekFarkas maybe you have an example of such a recipe? I couldn't find some detailed information about its structure

Has anyone deployed Orchard CMS through Azure DevOps? I get the build to work but not the deployment to azure. Can anyone help me?

I have added message in Orchard.Notifier,_notifier.Add(NotifyType.Error, T("An Exception has occured,error message:{0}", filterContext.Exception.Message)); I want to display this message to front page by custom,What should I do?
Benedek Farkas
@BenedekFarkas
@RotariPavel check out the docs, so you can get a recipe out of the default install: http://docs.orchardproject.net/en/latest/Documentation/Import-Export/, but we also have a blogpost with a video series on it (it's oooooold, but still mostly relevant): https://orcharddojo.net/orchard-training/trainings/orchard-cms-tutorial-recipes-in-orchard-cms
@happydaily notifications are displayed in the next request response in a specific zone by default, but you can manipulate them before the response is finished and also how they are displayed.
@wpbest how do you generate the deployment package?
William Best
@wpbest
@BenedekFarkas Through Azure DevOps pipleline
@BenedekFarkas Is there a way to install Google Analytics? None of the old Google Analytics Modules seem to work with the latest version of Orchard CMS.
William Best
@wpbest
@BenedekFarkas @sebastienros This week I recreated my old Blog (BootstrapMachine) but it seems like there is so much technical debt with the first generation of Orchard CMS 1.x. that I can't go forward. (Google Analytics, Font Awesome Version 5.9, jQuery without security issues). So many issues with using a system without viable plugins that don't work with the latest release. I've been waiting for Orchard Core so long. I believe, It would have been better if a MVP (Minimal Viable Product) was released two years ago. Just my 2 cents.

@happydaily
@BenedekFarkas thank you for reply,can u tell me which module or feature supply notifications by default
William Best
@wpbest
@BenedekFarkas I used GoogleAnalytics Module: https://github.com/ScharfHoldings/SH.GoogleAnalytics
@BenedekFarkas There is no Analytics in Settings.
William Best
@wpbest
@sebastienros @RotariPavel I just have to say the even though Orchard CMS 1.10.3 crashes when adding modules, it still does really well with supporting my content.

Hi @BenedekFarkas , I have tried to install 1.10.3 but I receive the compilation error: error CS1617: Opción 'latest' no válida para /langversion; debe ser ISO-1, ISO-2, Predeterminado o entero en un intervalo del 1 al 6.
I am using Visual Studio Enterprise 2015: Should I use a higher version?. Thank you

hi guys!
anyone can help me a little about add some code to a module??
this file is official module training from orchard (documents and files can be found here: http://docs.orchardproject.net/en/latest/Documentation/Getting-Started-with-Modules-Part-2/ )

i want to get some data by this code and render it inside view! where can I place my code?

code is here:

`private static readonly HttpClient client = new HttpClient();

    public async Task<IActionResult> Show()
    {

        var values = new Dictionary<string, string>
            {
                { "kmcatid", "55" },
                { "token", "" }
            };

        var content = new FormUrlEncodedContent(values);

        var response = await client.PostAsync("http://www.example.com/recepticle.aspx", content);

        var responseString = await response.Content.ReadAsStringAsync();

        ViewData["amoot"] = responseString;
        return await Task.Run(() => View());

    }`

@wpbest I don't know about that GoogleAnalytics module (what it does or is it supported still), but we have one that is compatible with current versions (see the separate branches): https://github.com/Lombiq/Orchard-Simple-Analytics
@wpbest does it crash when you install modules from the Gallery or adding them by source? Gallery modules are almost all 3rd-party, so they might not be supported for a long time (and incompatible with recent versions).
@wpbest btw you're right that the situation with releases is not ideal. 1.10.3 came after a looooong pause, but jQuery and other stuff is not upgraded there, because the minor version releases can't have breaking changes. We are working on getting 1.11 released, which will bring a ton improvements and updates. But you can use the latest dev branch too, it is stable.
Benedek Farkas
@BenedekFarkas
@ix201610 yes, it is currently configured in a way that is not compatible with Visual Studio version earlier than 2017 to make sure that you can use the latest C# language features. If you want to use Visual Studio 2015, you need to set the restrictions to C# 6, see the docs: http://docs.orchardproject.net/en/latest/Documentation/Compilation-Configuration-and-Language-Support/#downgrading

Is it possible to automate the creation of a workflow on module installation? I have developed a custom module that adds a workflow Event. When the module is installed, I also want to create a new workflow definition that sends an email when the event occurs.

@th3r0b0t as i remember when editing a widget there is a dedicated property for this ;)

hey everyone, you can now list Orchard as part of your stack on StackShare:

Thanks for submitting OrchardCMS to StackShare! We just approved it, so it's now visible in your stack and to the rest of the StackShare community. Be the first one to add a couple of one-liners about why you like using OrchardCMS: https://stackshare.io/orchardcms.

Benedek Farkas
@BenedekFarkas
Hey @jean, does @sebastienros have access to edit those details? Orchard Core could be added as well.
Jean Jordaan
@jean

@BenedekFarkas hmm that's an interesting point.

Orchard used to mean the Orchard CMS.
Now, the CMS is just one type of deployment of Orchard Core. So it could make sense to add it.
It might be confusing though. I bet people using the CMS would pick Orchard CMS and Orchard Core randomly, fragmenting the listings.

The best name might simply be Orchard.
The Core ending is only meaningful to OC devs, the more so since .NET Core will be .NET 5 (https://devblogs.microsoft.com/dotnet/introducing-net-5/)

At https://stackshare.io/orchardcms there is a Claim this page link that will send a verification mail to an orchardproject.net email address. I bet that allows you to edit it.

Though it was added due to my request I don't have any admin rights on it.

Benedek Farkas
@BenedekFarkas
@jean well, yes, but Orchard CMS (1.x) and Orchard Core are completely separate in every technical way. I'm not sure what would be the best, but if we had an Orchard Project as an umbrella with Orchard CMS and Orchard Core under it, that might be the most realistic representation of what's happening.
.NET 5 is not that simple unfortunately, virtually nobody knows what will happen exactly to the existing two frameworks in terms of compatibility and migration path.
Jean Jordaan
@jean
@BenedekFarkas true, but many projects undergo major evolution without fragmenting the branding. I think O1 users and OC users still speak the same language. For me, on a site like StackShare, I think 1 label should be OK.

@mwentz
Today on one of our sites (running 1.9.1) all of the role permissions were removed (except moderator), so all back end users of all (other) roles lost access to the back end and front end users lost access to the front end. Luckily the site owner account still had access so I was able to fix access for front end users. I checked the server logs and there was no traffic to /admin/roles. I trust everybody with direct DB access, so any thoughts on what else could have happened here?
mwentz
@mwentz
Unfortunately we didn't have Audit Trail enabled for Roles or Users (they are now obviously)
Benedek Farkas
@BenedekFarkas
@mwentz there are a few other ways this could happen, but all of them is an explicit action that requires some sort of elevated permission:
  • Manage Roles permission allows deleting Roles manually through the Dashboard.
  • Accessing the application's file system allows deleting Roles using the Orchard CLI via commands.
  • "Import Data" permission allows executing the same commands the Orchard CLI in a recipe.
    Maybe the database transaction gives more clue as to what happened (and when) and the RecipeJournal (in the App_Data folder) might point out if it was done via a recipe.

@mwentz
Thanks @BenedekFarkas I appreciate your help. In the end it turns out it was a mistake we made in development.
