    @ocksumoron
    Hi everybody!
    My name is Daniil Dmitriev, I am a sophomore at Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, studying Computer Science.
    I am interested in this project because I am passionate about security problems and have good Python knowledge. Therefore I wonder, what are details of the project and is there some mini tasks that I can accomplish before submitting a proposal?
    Thank you!

    Hello @ocksumoron, welcome to the P2PSP project and DPS "room" in particular. As you probably knows, this layer (DPS) is described (minimally) at: https://github.com/P2PSP/p2psp/tree/master/doc/P2PSP/DPS.
    I'm not the mentor of this idea, but I can comment to you that we want to do with this set of rules is to achieve private broadcastings using P2PSP. I can think in two levels of protection: (1) controlling which peers can be a part of a team and (2) encrypting the content.

    About the proposal, at the GSoC site (P2PSP organization) you can find the most relevant information we required from the students. However, a good proposal should have a realistic time scheduling, a list of milestones and the corresponding deliverables, an a list of possible setbacks and the corresponding solutions. Good luck!

    @ocksumoron
    Thank you @vicente-gonzalez-ruiz ! How can I contact this idea's mentor?
    Vicente González Ruiz
    @vicente-gonzalez-ruiz
    @ocksumoron, as soon as we decide a mentor for this idea, we will notify it through this media. I apologise for any inconvenience :-/
    ocksumoron
    @ocksumoron
    @vicente-gonzalez-ruiz , that's ok, I just thought that L. G. Casado will be this idea's mentor, as written on the idea's list page. I have read the article that was suggested on the DPS page and currently is familiarizing with the code.
    Vicente González Ruiz
    @vicente-gonzalez-ruiz
    @ocksumoron, yes. It is quite likely that L.G. Casado will be one of the mentors of this idea (usually we configure two mentors/idea).
    ocksumoron
    @ocksumoron
    @vicente-gonzalez-ruiz , alright :) Btw, can I post here some draft of my proposal soon, so you or somebody else can leave comments on it?
    ocksumoron
    @ocksumoron
    Also, if I understood the article correctly, it provides solution for both of these:
    "I can think in two levels of protection: (1) controlling which peers can be a part of a team and (2) encrypting the content."?
    Cristóbal Medina López
    @cristobalmedinalopez
    Hi @ocksumoron, yes, if you upload your proposal as a draft in the GSoC platform we can leave comments on it.
    "I can think in two levels of protection: (1) controlling which peers can be a part of a team and (2) encrypting the content."?
    Exactly! ;)

    I have read the papers you recommend in github, while I think they are mainly on key distribution,especially on what the key severer and peers should do when a peer leave or join the team. The papers do not give methods to identify who is the authenticated peers . Moreover , they do not assign an algorithm for encryption.( From my point of view, more than one algorithm might be suitable.) So do you mean that we should consider these two problems?
    Cristóbal Medina López
    @cristobalmedinalopez
    Hi @bailan0506, you can feel free to choose an algorithm you consider appropriate. Remember that we want to keep the overhead as low as possible.

    @bailan0506
    @cristobalmedinalopez I got it. Thank you!
    Vicente González Ruiz
    @vicente-gonzalez-ruiz
    @ocksumoron, please, use Google Drive (as GSoC's org recomends) for share your proposal with us. Thanks!

    @ocksumoron
    @vicente-gonzalez-ruiz, @cristobalmedinalopez , I have just uploaded my draft, looking forward to your comments! :)

    @bailan0506
    @cristobalmedinalopez @vicente-gonzalez-ruiz I have followed the instruction of GSoC to upload the draft of my proposal. I hope it is not too late for you to give me some advice. Thanks! :smile:

    @vicente-gonzalez-ruiz
    Hi @ocksumoron. Some very minor remark: (1) put a "full stop" after Section 2.3.1. I'm not a expertise in security (I won't be the mentor of this idea) but ... good proposal. Thanks :-)
    Vicente González Ruiz
    @vicente-gonzalez-ruiz
    Thanks @bailan0506. I have done some comments in your draft. Good luck!

    Dear @vicente-gonzalez-ruiz above github link is broken!

    @manishkk

    I am a student of TU Kaiserslautern, pursuing my master's in Computer Science with specialization in Communication System, focusing in Networking & Security. I attended course on Network Security in university and by online learning I completed course on Usable Security, Software Security, Cryptography and Information Security on coursera.

    I am highly interested in Project "Improving data security with the DPS layer"
    please suggest me how I can start on this, meanwhile I will refer these reference papers mentioned in Documentation.
    https://github.com/P2PSP/core/tree/master/doc/DPS

    Cristóbal Medina López
    @cristobalmedinalopez
    Hi @manishkk You are in the right way. First, it is important to understand how the P2PSP works. You can read about at https://github.com/P2PSP/core/tree/master/doc
    Another interesting thing to understand the protocol is to run a local team: https://github.com/P2PSP/I-want-to-use-it
    Manish Kumar
    @manishkk
    Hello @cristobalmedinalopez , Thanks for reply! I will refer this whole documentation repository for understanding of P2PSP but can you suggest something more about "Data Privacy Set of Rule" (DPS) and I will try to setup environment for P2PSP on my system.
    @cristobalmedinalopez I got this link also: http://www.ual.es/~vruiz/Investigacion/P2PSP/docs/main/WhitePaper/HTML/index.xht for detailed study on P2PSP
    Cristóbal Medina López
    @cristobalmedinalopez
    Yes, the references in DPS doc on github can help you to get ideas about our objective. The last document that you link is a draft and could be unupated. But don't worry, everything is helpful to understard this project.
    Manish Kumar
    @manishkk
    DPS doc on github have only few details. It seems for more knowledge I have to read these papers & then only I can get better idea about objective.

    @yvshri
    Hey everyone,
    I am Yash. I am fourth year CSE undergrad at IIT Kharagpur, India. I have been working in the field of Cryptography and Security for past two years as an undergraduate researcher. I am comfortable in programming in Python (2 and 3), C and C++. I am interested in contributing in the project "Improving data security with the DPS layer" as part of Gsoc 2017
    I have started reading the docs mentioned in the links in previous chats. Can someone point me beginner issues so that I can get familiar with the code base and coding style of the project?
    Cristóbal Medina López
    @cristobalmedinalopez
    Before face issues is most interesting to read about the protocol and try to run a local team: https://github.com/P2PSP/I-want-to-use-it :wink:
    Manish Kumar
    @manishkk
    Hi @cristobalmedinalopez , I have just uploaded my draft, looking forward to your comments! :)
    Cristóbal Medina López
    @cristobalmedinalopez
    I think that your proposal is fine and have all the information that mentors need to make decisions. Good luck!
    Manish Kumar
    @manishkk
    Thanks for the review. :)
