On a related note, the vector output's metadata always seems to say WGS84 even when the input point cloud is different (here, the C18075.las file in Bradley's presentation is in 26917). I tried specifying --a_SRS=EPSG:26917 and also --t_SRS=EPSG:26917 but didn't make a difference.
